5 THAI STREET FOOD DISHES IN 1 MARKET 🌶 🍜 - DIY Bangkok food Tour BEST PAD THAI - ฝรั่งกินอาหารไทย

Another day, another DIY street food tour. Today I headed to the end of the MRT Blue Line (nearly) to visit what I’m told is the longest street food market in Bangkok, Bang Khae Market. My mission with these videos is to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
Now you might not have heard of Bang Khae but it’s a really famous market on the Thonburi side of Bangkok where you can get a variety of Thai street food dishes in one area.
I vegetable samosas and Nam Prik Pao (roasted chilli paste) at a little Burmese stall, Mutabak Gai (chicken stuffed bread) at a wonderful Thai-Muslim stall, Miang Kham (one bite wrap) and Khao Niew Mamuang (mango sticky rice) at another place and probably my favourite pad Thai in Bangkok at Pee Chum.
Bangkok can be a bit overwhelming if it's your first time in the city as it's so big, so I thought I'd do some videos to help break it down into sections so you can get some awesome street food wherever you go.

At the beginning, you said Nakorn Panom instead of Nakorn Pathom. Nakorn Panom is located in E-sarn. They are so close in pronouncing but so far in distancing. 👏👏👏 I can say you're a Thai food expert. you know lot of Thai dish especially in Thai word. I've just heard farang said Mango Sticky Rice with Khao Neow Mamuang, it's very hard for farang to pronounce. You're the first one. You're the real one. 👍👍👍

The BTS and MRT lines are such a wonderful convenience for today's tourists, it seems that every part of BKK is a quick ride away. My first couple of visits in the late 90's/early 2000s it was difficult to explore past the regular touristy parts of the city such as Khao san, chinatown, sukhumvit rd etc.

Yeah we can't find the best food every time unfortunately but I wanted to show it anyway for the atmosphere like you say! Actually I forgot how good the pad Thai here is, it's probably my favourite. I wish I ate that on camera now 😅. I speak ok Thai for the market haha!

Like yourself, I love eating all the grub when travelling, but I never remember the names. To be honest Id eat my own arm is it was served up. I keep plenty of photo memories though. I remember tracking down a thai fellas stall outside Lumphini. Gate 8 i think. 40bht buffet eat all you want. Just local taxi lads about. Im sure you'd know of it or some more. Great food ,great area..I have never been there so definitely a place to check out..Looks like you bought Kluai Hom Banana..maybe a little on the expensive side ..20 baht ..but it is what it is in Bangkok..always cheaper in the countryside ( where I am ) but compared to back home.. a bargain..As a suggestion You could do a video just on Banana varieties and which ones are good for BBQ,eating fresh etc..Great fun to watch Gary..thxs..

Do you know of the Thai holiday before Loy Krathong called Ga-Tin at the temples where the locals offer free food? Never seen it in Bangkok but in many of the smaller cities during November they have it. In my Thai town, it is tomorrow November 6th. Tum Boon make merit to monks Tum Tan offer to people..

I live at the other end; Bang Chak. We may not have all that different food but the ones we have similar seem to be cheaper. I don't eat much deep-fried and that is big here. I do know a place on Pattanagan that has goat burgers and wraps!

I never think Garry will come so far as Talard Bang Khae. Still looks almost nothing changed since I left this area 35 yrs ago except the train. And yes, I have had the best Padthai in BKK in Talard Bang Khae but seems the that original shop has gone long ago.

@@theroamingcook Just another area outside BKK , Bang Bua thong in Nonthaburi. There's also a good Kuai Teow Nuea shop in This area. Nai So ร้านนายโส รสเด็ด ( Mr. So's Braised Beef Noodle). It's worth your try and taste if you pass by this area ( can be searched from Google Map).

Nice vid Gary. Was kinda expecting u to get the ingredients and cook for us instead. Seems like u crave for samosa alot. In fact from thailand to any parts in south east asia u find lots of variations, the main diff is the dough. If u have a chance to visit malaysia or singapore, its mostly potatoes or sardines. Can tell u might love indian curry as well, the best can b found south wards as the weather gets more humid.

I could definitely do that and cook, if people would be interested! Yes I definitely crave samosas when I’m away. Where I’m from in London, there is a massive Asia population (around 70 percent) so Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi food is everywhere. I’d love to go back to Malaysia and I’ve not really done Singapore properly either! And yes you are right, I LOVE Indian curry. Where are you from?

@@theroamingcook Yes! This Covid sh*t has been discouraging. On a more positive note, we did just have a fantastic trip to the US state of Maine, which is known for its seafood. I ate 15 dozen raw oysters (46 different varieties) in two weeks! So good! Thanks for your videos. They keep me hopeful and excited about a return to Thailand in '22.

Hey Darjan! Thanks a lot, I’m glad you are enjoying the channel. I’ve never been to Delhi or Chengdu but they are both on my list too! I LOVE Saigon and Hanoi and obviously they are the places for Pho but I would maybe start in Bangkok as it’s probably the most tourist friendly so you can get used to being in Asia. It’s also so cheap to fly from here to all of the other places on your list. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything of the places on your list though to be honest, all top food destinations!

I've had it a few times but never at a market, especially one that hasn't got anything out of the ordinary! The pandan roti is great. There used to be one in Bang Rak (by Shangri la) that I took so many people to but Mark Weins did a video at her stall three years ago and I never saw her again 😂

I didn’t realise anyone had touched the food directly 😂 but, in my experience, people wearing gloves tend to wash their hands far less than people not wearing gloves so it’s all down to the personal hygiene of the seller.

It’s well worth the trip Janne! There are So many markets around Bangkok it’s hard to pick where to go haha. No live animals here or anything out of the ordinary so I’m not quite sure what the no filming is all about. It’s just a normal market

@@theroamingcook Take the riverboat and jest get off at a random spot and walk those areas. You can often find neighborhood markets etc. sometimes they are a bust. So the same using the MRT. I also ask locals their favorite markets, restaurants. You can also ride a bus line and jump off when you see something interesting. Look forward to seeing what you find. Hope to get back to BKK in 2023 hopefully when they wake up and really relax their reopening until then Mexico and other Caribbean countries it is.
