Thank you for your insightful videos. We are retired, with pensions, social security, and modest income from our rented condo in Portland, Oregon. We love the ''old-town" look of Lviv and Krakow. Where would you recommend that we begin our search for an apartment in France? Thank you!!

Anywhere in France but Paris you need a car? That is completely false. In almost any city or town in France you can live easily without a car.

Thank you for your insightful videos. We are retired (I taught English), with modest income from pensions, social security, and our rented condo in Portland, Oregon. We just completed four months in Lviv helping a new school open. And we fell in love with the ''old-town" look of Lviv and Krakow. Our next stop is Tallinn, Estonia. But, France looks really interesting. Where would you recommend that we begin our search for an apartment in France? My wife has MS, so healthcare and air conditioning is critical. Thank you!! Why are you not able to get on the French heatth care system? I am told the new rules are that you can apply one you have lived there for 3 mohths. Retirinees don[t work so they would be assess something 9based on investment income maybe) but I am curious about that. This information is not very good or up to date. Update: This information is horribly not up to date. Retirees can apply for a carte vitale after 3 months. This video has a lot of bad information.

Thanks for the great introduction to the topic. I'm interested in the difference in renta between different neighborhoods in Paris and between different cities in France. I've been using Numbeo as a tool there, but its crowd-based cost estimates lag when we have rapidly changing costs like I have seen all over recently.

I read on a French immigration site, $920 monthly is the requirement for retirees on social security😊

That’s really a pittance to live in France. Far below minimum wage.😮

Thank you for your great videos. The whole notion of retiring outside of the States keeps looking attractive. My curiosity about France and all of Europe is the recent threats of oil and gas imports getting cut and how that might effect Parisians et al. A winter in Germany can get pretty brisk just as a summer in Southern Europe can get awfully hot. What steps against being powerless have you taken or are considering?

Perhaps you are making a disservice encouraging americans to retire to Paris. First, they will find that their "comfort level" is not the same in france. Also, the french do not accept or embrace foreigners so easily. For americans there is a stereotype that they are "superficial" as you may well know if you are married to a french, which makes it easier for you. But so many come and truly struggle despite the health care. For older people there are stairs to climb in many buildings, and they get "trapped" on upper floors all the time. Most places in Paris are not what you call "wheelchair friendly". Older people especially women are having their purses torn from them in the daytime all the time. This was not the case for many years but now most french don't feel Paris is great for seniors. There are many real estate sharks here who, believing most americans are "rich" do not hesitate to charge above market prices. If they don't speak the language many will have to hire help - also for lawyers, doctors, accountants, french administration, workmen - and many mistakes will be made, which add up. Many who buy apartments return to the US after say, 2 years and the immobiliers know this, so each time they sell the apartment they will make a new commission!

American retirees in France have access to the French healthcare system without paying French tax. Your information comes up short.

Are there cheaper apartments or liveable lodgings for senior citizens or long term visitors? Do the French barter for home services like cleaning and childcare, for rent and a bath in a home ?

Hi Teresa! There are house sitting options in France and also nanny jobs. You can check the local websites for these types of services.

Moving to France : always the same clichés : picture of young woman, Eiffel tower backdrop. Which countries are males supposed to move to? And concerning France, what about cities other than Paris (which Btw is not all about the ET)?
