I agree with all of your points except for the boss fights. Killer crocs was fun but was basically a tutorial and later with the bane fight used the same stun, stun, stun beatdown. Deathstrokes while fun, was basically a qte disguised as a boss fight. Copperheads was pretty cool and unique so I'll give it that. Deadshots was actually way cooler than what we got in city. Shiva was once again a qte. Electricoutiner was quite funny, but I suspect that his was cut due to saving time. Firefly was a cool boss fight although the atmosphere of it carried it hard. The first bane battle was my favourite as he wasn't juiced with venom, and the second one was just ok. Overall I would say city did boss fights the best and origins second. This is due to a lot of assets for city being reused for origins.

@@captain3873 City's boss fights weren't all that impressive either. Freeze was great because it basically forced you to use everything you know. But other than that, Solomon Grundy, Clayface and Ra's were basically side jump and spam one gadget. I'd agree that Deadshot is basically just a qte but have you ever tried doing it in any of the hardcore modes? You know without the prompts. That was more challenging than any boss fight in the Arkham games, at least to me.

Funnily enough the first Arkham games I had were origins and knight. And without playing the two games in between I still understood the story. I have all the dlc for knight and I’ve played through it again and again, and I’m saving up for the dlc for origins, and I recently played through asylum and city, but origins and knight built the world for me, and gave me a timeline, of what happens when. Sure it spoiled city, knowing the joker would die but I didn’t know the rest of the story and I still enjoyed the game and jokers death was kinda poetic. Not to mention in origins you can kinda see what the developers wanted you to see in jokers dialogue when talking to batman and in those back to back cutscenes showing both joker and Batman’s origins. They wanted you to see that at the beginning the joker and batman weren’t very different, with the only major differences being that one was a killer and the other a brutal vigilante, both on the wrong side of the law, I mean at the beginning you can see what joker sees but then at the end we see batman change, and I’ve always liked that the last batman v goons fight in the game is with Gordon as a partner fighting alongside batman, showing that change in gameplay is really a nice touch.

I know I’m in the minority, but Origins is my favourite game in the Arkham franchise. I really enjoy City and Asylum too, but Origins just hit different. I love the story, and snowy Gotham at Christmas was a beautiful setting. I also really like the character designs, combat and boss fights.

@@milkiassamuel780 Oh no they handled him well personality-wise. But they kinda also make him into a complete idiot at times while he is supposed to be genuinely ridiculously smart. I mean he straight up figured out Batman's identity in the comics with very little effort. And in Origins, he is not only smart enough to genuinely be an obstacle instead of a nuisance to Batman but on top of that he actually narrowed down Batman's identity to Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent. Yet, because Origins is part of the Arkham-verse, he HAS to be too stupid to figure it out. You know, even though by this point it is obvious. Origins were the closest we ever had to see a true depiction of the Riddler but any potential the version of the character had was basically leading to a dead end due to the restriction of continuity. It's the same as with Bane just on a smaller scale.

It really gave him an early live as a street level hero: The designs show how he either uses selfmade or repurposed millitary stuff (Batwing Mk1!!!), the way he acts he really has to get some more experience and the story really has more personal scales! If only the gameplay relected that relative "low-level" nature, meaning batman being weaker than in other titles. This game really deserves a Sequel. With Rocksteady already doing a service koop game, WB Montreal should really have focused on that. Bringing in Robin they even could have maintained the 2-player koop component. Dick would have even made a great focus. With Bruce being more experienced he could be the more growing character, providing new players with an entry point whilst the Big B has to learn being responsible for someone else. Just make him significantly older than his early comic book version, due to that screaming child soldoer.

Exactly. And that’s what Batman SHOULD be. No big one time thing where the entire city is danger, no ‘in between events’ timeline. NO! EVERYDAY in Batman’s life is a story, there are no slow days, Batman is our every day pumping out another story. Story after story after story. It’s not like marvel where there’s one event, and then after 2 years of doing nothing there’s another event. Nah he has events every day, and origins showed that perfectly. The best things for me were: 1. Joker having his best plot ever, taking out Bat Man with 8 assassins, 2. the bosses were great, 3. Bane being a capable villain which Rocksteady botched, 4. the suit 5. I'm glad a recent revisit has let me appreciate this game a lot more. I think something else this game did best, though is very easily overlooked, is the tutorial. The entire first visit to Blackgate is honestly perfect in teaching the player everything they have without feeling forced. You learn every gadget you have, you learn combat quickly, and get a good boss fight to teach you all the basics. All the other Arkham games kinda just throw you in with a bunch of stuff and not much explanation outside of a quick combat section. Origins makes sure you know them without feeling like a tutorial.

I just finished replaying all four Arkham games, and I think the thing I appreciated the most about Origins was the characterization of Batman. Arkham Origins is, in my opinion, the first game in the franchise to treat Batman as a character. In the previous two games, he looks like Batman, he sounds like Batman, he talks like Batman, and he mostly behaves like Batman, but when you look at the story of those games, what does Batman learn? How does he change? How does he grow? He really doesn't. In Arkham Origins, Batman actually has an arc. He is a different man by the end of the game than he is at the start. He learns to accept help, to let people in, to admit his own limitations. I just think that's beautiful, man. And while the game has it's faults in terms of gameplay, I am nonetheless grateful for the fantastic story that this game told.

Personally Origins is actually my favorite game. It feels a lot more real than the other games to me. You see a lot of character growth, and you see how some parts of the other games came to be. Plus I really enjoyed walking around the batcave, and being able to talk to alfred face to face.

The detective work in Origins is brilliant, it’s one of my favourite aspect’s of the game. I hope there’s a lot more of it in WB Montreal’s next Batman game. That said, I’d love to see it be less technology based, and more like LA Noire’s detective work, were it’s much more hands on and has more depth.

I appreciate WB Games Montreal doing what Rocksteady couldn't do twice: get Bane right! This game was noticeably harder than Asylum and City, which I always thought were great games, but basic difficulty might as well be piece of cake. I actually don't care for Joker's design, though Baker did a fine job doing his Hamill impression. The ONLY Arkham game to get a proper Batcave. The costumes (skins) were interesting. Deathstroke's and Firefly's designs are some of the best ways they've ever looked anywhere. Probably the best DLC with Cold, Cold Heart. Best implementation of Batman being a detective. Stakes felt the highest by the time you race back to the batcave and go after Joker and Bane. Unfortunately, Origins also lays claim to the biggest unnecessary addition to an Arkham game: multiplayer. I remember a lot of people brought up that this game is supposed to be more or less Batman year 2ish, yet he's equipped in some respects equally well compared to Asylum or City. It's still a game, and I didn't want Batman to have only 3 or 4 gadgets simply because he's supposed to be starting out. One does have to wonder where those electric gloves went to by the time of Asylum....

Origins is my personal favorite Arkham game. For all the reasons you mentioned and more. Without disparaging the other entries in the franchise/series, origins felt the most authentic to itself(I think an argument can be made for Arkham Asylum, that being my 2nd favorite) and really outshined the other titles with its story and characters. Batman actually has a character arc with a complete through line and every major character has a hand in shaping that arc for him. I feel that is something that is missing in a lot of popular Batman media/stories. He’s usually a static character. How can we get Batman to go through some real changes? (This is why I’m a huge fan of BvS and ZSJL)

This game is very under rated. Story so so, but Best boss fights: Slade, Bane, Firefly, killer crock, electro cutioner had me 💀. And most of all it's on Christmas eve on my bday😇😇. Even though it the black mask and joker plot are soso but joker's bombs all the city was pretty dope. A remake is needed

Killer crocs was fun but was basically a tutorial and later with the bane fight used the same stun, stun, stun beatdown. Deathstrokes while fun, was basically a qte disguised as a boss fight. Copperheads was pretty cool and unique so I'll give it that. Deadshots was actually way cooler than what we got in city. Shiva was once again a qte. Electricoutiner was quite funny, but I suspect that his was cut due to saving time. Firefly was a cool boss fight although the atmosphere of it carried it hard. The first bane battle was my favourite as he wasn't juiced with venom, and the second one was just ok. Overall I would say city did boss fights the best and origins second. This is due to a lot of assets for city being reused for origins.

I really loved how Batman had hard time to understand Joker at first and that flashback to Crime Alley after the hotel fight with Bane. Joker was something totally different from all the other crooks he had fought before. I would've liked more Arkham games with the idea of these "first encounters". Especially when Batman had the first encounter with Scarecrow (lots of horror potential) or the first encounter with Ra's / League of Shadows (with Talia romance included), and maybe the first encounter with Catwoman.

While it's not the most fluid traversal and combat, _Arkham Asylum_ is my favourite. It's map is excellent, and getting around it is not difficult. It has focus, not 100 other things to do. Also the easiest to get all Riddler challenges but isn't required to finish the story.

This game has the best boss battles in all 4 of the games. And his suit is badass. Bane is amazing in this game too. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

minor thing but I like how this game has a batman level situation. Like the stakes are high but not so high where other means would be called in. like in arkham knight, that's not a batman level situation, that's a justice league matter, or a situation where the military would be called in. there's really no reason for the military to send in some choppers or have superman and friends come in.

It's a "seasonal tie" between City and Origins for me. I love Arkham City, in fact I think it's pretty much flawless. Be that as it may, Arkham Origins is probably my favorite in the series. Not the best in technical terms, but my favorite. Mostly because, like you said, of the detective vibe, holiday spirit and yadayadayada. I also like it how it rehashes a lot from Arkham City, but still manages to have a completely different visual identity to it. The only thing I kinda missed from it was Ra's Al Ghul. To me, he's the second most important villain in the series and was painfully underrepresentated in Arkham Knight.

Honestly one of the best thing that they did is Bane's first boss figth theme. Yesterday I palyed that mission for like twentieth time and that theme still makes me to shit my pants everytime Bane super rushes at me like Thomas the train XD

One person you didn't mention, Victor Fries' obsession with curing his wife Nora. At the end of their side mission in Arkham Knight, Nora tells Victor to stop trying to cure her and let her live her last few days in peace, letting him let go of his obsession.

The best side quest in all of Arkham Knight. Certainly the best written, and I always recommended people do it last before ending the game, because it feels like it caps the entire Arkham series in a bittersweet way.
