I've changed my mind about decoration and in-case-you-need-it stuff. I used to think that a lot of decoration is cool and that the second one makes you more prepared. Now I decorate just the things that make me happy and I keep objects that I know I'll need soon.😃😃💜

My main change is not shopping for entertainment. I used to shop at thrift stores all the time. It was less expensive, but I was still buying things I didn't need.

I used to think that having lots of stuff meant security, however since working towards minimalism I’ve come to see mobility as a better source of security. Next time I need to move I hope to have less “baggage” than the 2 moving trucks it took to relocate me here. Every time I donate or recycle I feel the weight lifting off me! 😻
@lizzabbott
@lizzabbott 2 жыл бұрын
I love that ! YES ! Being more mobile is where it’s at imo. That is true freedom ! I am pretty sure I will move again sometime. And when I do, I want to have less things than I do now to move. I’ve moved lots of xs and always do a big purge when I move ( AND between moves) , but this simplifying endeavor continues ! It’s great ! More freeing to get rid of stuff than to SHOP ! 😀

Hi Vera, I did a “no-buy” for about 3 months. That’s a first for me because I have always had minimum wage jobs and I was always very poor and broke a few days after I got paid. Now I’m disabled and I get only minimal funds because I always had minimal income. Often women earn less income for doing the same job a man does. Since we earn less when we’re working, we get less when we retire or when we become disabled. Once I started spending again (because a family member needed help) I felt silently very afraid that I would never get my “minimalism-mojo” back. I’m going to try to save a little each month no matter how small. Since I have been watching your videos for about 3 years or so, I don’t feel the need to buy everything that I see and I think I need or want that. Instead, I thought back to the happiest time in my life and it was when I owned the least amount of items. Being poor made me a minimalist and I was happier then. My apartment was easier to clean and I had more time to spend enjoying myself. So now I’m older and in a lot pain and I need to own less so I can do less and have less pain. Plus, I miss the days my apartment was always clean and neat and tidy. I saw one video on “Swedish Death Cleaning”. Would you give us your take on it and how can I get back on track to saving? I want to get my “minimalist-mojo” back . Also you look beautiful and you just keep getting more beautiful as time passes. I love to see you in pink. I would like to know about your skincare . And lastly I would love too see you do a video on each of those delicious meals you have already shown us in your previous videos. Thank you for your time and patience with this long conversation.

Hi Vera, such a great video… I love living the life I live, I am living simply and Minimal 5 years now. I never really want things , I have downsized 70% of my personal possessions, including household items as well. I appreciate what I have so much more. I also think long and hard on something I am thinking of spending my money on.. my bank account has really grown, and it feel s so good. No credit card bills. I still browse but I just enjoy looking, I hardly ever think to buy it, unless it’s something I purposely went to buy..I like the way my home looks just as it is. The best part is home is peaceful and tranquil. My closet is spacious, and It’s a joy to get dressed, less clothes is such a wonderful part of minimalism, it has made my life so easy… Every aspect of my life has changed, a mind shift I never expected the day I decluttered my junk drawer, that was just the beginning of my journey ❤️

Question for q and a: how can I encourage my husband into minimalism? Also, my biggest change into minimalism is knowing the tricks of the market. I saw it in a previous video of yours. For example, they make something more desirable by picking on our weaknesses (your life will improve once you have this, etc.) 😊

Exciting announcement! I love Sarah's channel too and it's so cool that you became friends. You seem to have an organic and emotion-driven approach to minimalism while Sarah seems very practical and logical, so I can imagine you will make a very well-rounded video together. Of course, you have so many things in common as well so it will be a lot of fun too! Everyone, click the notification bell so you don't have to deal with FOMO! 😜

I was somewhat “forced “ to become more of the pretty practical minimalist I always was about 11 years ago. However , for a good 8 solid years , minimalism has become a choice. It has brought a great sense of peace , security , enlightenment and confidence into my life.

I just found you a week or so ago so my I’m just barely starting my journey! I have started dexluttering my garage/home. And have challenged myself to NO shopping for one month or clothes/home decor. And repurposing and changing items in my home. Half of my garage clutter will be either given/donated to goodwill or sold in yard sale…. Someone made a good point having all this stuff clothes shoes doesn’t always bring you happiness… for me shopping therapy is temporary and then I find myself looking at it with tags in my closet only to be returned! Can’t wait to see mode of your videos by the way loved FOMO I haven’t taken a vacation since the pandemic and I see everyone doing it now …. But I need to do what works for me! Thanks for sharing

My main changes are all around buying stuff. I have my seasonal "boring" capsule wardrobe that I love. I don't need more clothes. I have learned to ask how I can fix something rather than buying new. I have two small amchairs that are so comfortable, but my dear cats scratched them all to heck. I went online and found reasonably priced velvet slip covers. It is a satisfactory solution, and my cats hate velvet. I did invest in a new loveseat, but I found some sticky tape for the edges and back of the loveseat , and the cats hate it! So, I'm learning work-arounds for my home that don't require that i buy something new. Best of all, I'm learning to relax. The last two hours of my day are now TV and Digital free. I turn on some relaxing music designed for cats. We cuddle on the loveseat, and I read to relax before bed. I find that I no longer have to be the go-getter that I've been all of my life. There are so many valuable lessons to learn from minimalism! I hope you have a wonderful time with Sarah. I love her channel, and I'm looking forward to watching you two together!

I used to get really bad FOMO, but strangely lockdowns changed my mind about it. I really began to enjoy staying home on a sat night either learning something new, reading, or just watching a really good movie. Then when things started to open up i became really selective about where I went and who i went out with.

Oooooh yaaay ! Hi, Vera ! I haven’t been around here in a bit & I’ve been temporarily off your Patreon ( but I love it & I SHALL return .... probably in late Fall). But ... you DO remain as among like my TOP favorite 2 - 4 y’tube channels - amidst ... idk maybe like 30 - 50 channels I watch ( but not ALL of ‘em all the time!). Anyhooo ... I love Sarah’s channel, too. And I remember you commenting to me ( maybe on Patreon) that you two are good friends. I thought that was absolutely wonnnnnnnnderful ! Let’s hear it for Sarah & Abundantly Minimal ! I am thrilled for you guys that she & Jake are visiting you soon ! A dream come true ! Soul Family ! Soul Connections ! Having fun together & supporting each other , learning more about who you are via seeing your reflection in the mirror of this rich friendship. Have a lovely time ! Lots of fun adventures and treasured moments, quiet knowings & silly laughter to you ! For Q & A ... tell me how you two became friends ! I imagine one of you saw the other’s video & it resonated. But let’s hear all about it. What caught your attention, what resonated , what you learned you have in common ( & maybe what you don’t have in common but you learn from it, & it compliments your friendship / bond). How you first reached out to each other ... all that great stuff.

At the beginning of my minimalism journey, I made a folder on my phone. I called it “Window Shopping”. This is where I keep all the photos of things I probably would have bought just to look at and appreciate them. I still like beautiful and/or practical things, but, like Vera said, you can enjoy it in the moment itself and then just let it go because you know you don't NEED it. Question for the Sarah-Vera Q&A: Have you two always had that peaceful, calm vibe? Or did minimalism helped with that? Maybe it cooled down your temperament/enthusiasm a bit at times? In other words, has minimalism changed your character? Enjoy your free time and the time you spend together. Hope you have nice weather. Doei!

I can really resonate with all the things you mentioned in this video and hearing them makes me so grateful that I discovered minimalism. In addition to the ones you mentioned I changed my mind about holiday decorations and activities. I used to buy lots of decorations to make my house look very festive and I would feel a real pressure to do as many holiday things as possible. But the reality is I actually enjoy the normal rhythms of ordinary day to day life far more and found that I actually was getting stressed about upcoming holidays and all the things I had to do to make them festive. Minimalism has helped me let go of all of that and now I decorate in a minimal way and each holiday (including my favourite: Halloween) is approached much more simply and therefore more enjoyably. 🙂

I am not a minimalist. I have lots of things around me that are of great meaning and value, and many I’ve had for many years. That being said, I find your principles very sound. I think fomo is a cruel inner master and not buying to fill internal gaps or to fulfill deeper needs is a form of self care.

I really like the idea of “Jomo”, especially choosing not to do things we really don’t want to do anyway! I never feel good after I’ve done something I was doing just to please others or because I wanted to force myself to be included and not missing out. This is a great way of thinking about “fomo”!

FOMO is just a modern spin on Keeping up with the Joneses. Both lead to a lot of horrible feelings. We need to learn to be happy with ourselves, or what you called JOMO.

I'd like to think that one's definition of success can change over time... I know that that has been the case for me when it comes to any career goals I have in mind, so I think it'd be interesting to know where you see yourself in 5 or 10 years. Do you think that KZbin will remain a permanent thing for you, or are there other opportunities or projects you'd like to explore in the future beyond KZbin?
@SimpleHappyZen

Yes, it can totally change over time! Great point :) I've never really been able to answer that question myself, haha. 5 or 10 years from now.... that's a good one :)

Hi Vera, thank you for your consistently excellent content as once again I find each of your observations resonate so well with my own! I l love your concept of JOMO and also your decision not to buy souvenirs when travelling. I've just finished packing for a short trip and have vowed not to buy any as nothing more stressful than being unable to fit things in your luggage when returning home ! I haven't travelled for 4 years and this is just a few days by train with an itinerary which I'm very excited about as covers my interests of art, nature and history. Looking forward to the next Q & A with your special guest- how lovely it will be for you to meet in person and explore your home town together- enjoy 🌷🌞

I really enjoy your videos. I would love more advice on how to finally stop shopping. I have tried to start a low buy but I definitely struggle with online shopping. I think sometimes I shop out of a place of anxiety or boredom and I get tempted with the “sales”. I would love to learn more tips on what really worked for you and if it took you some time to finally break the habit.

I love your videos and look forward to each one. I am a much older lady (64) and retired but I enjoy all your content. I am not a big shopper, my one weakness is books and I also use my local library regularly. However I often visit friend’s houses and one in particular buys a lot of pretty quirky things, small items not expensive, but I find when I get home I google these items as they are so lovely, often asking where they come from. I have not bought any of it yet, but have come pretty close. How do I avoid this feeling, other than not going to my friend’s house, which isn’t an option as she is my best friend and I love visiting her. xx

@SimpleHappyZen 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! About your question, I would definitely say not to avoid going over to your friend's house haha :) No worries. If you do end up buying something you saw there that you like, I think that's fine. Minimalism isn't about deprivation. It's about finding what adds value for you, and getting rid of what's in the way of that. So maybe you enjoy all of them, but there are 1 or 2 things that seem extra special to you. I would say go for it :) If you would enjoy them, that's perfectly fine.

Thanks for this video! I've colored my hair twice this year, for a change and I've realized spending $$$ on my hair just feels wrong. My natural hair color looks fine. Because my hair doesn't take color well, I shouldn't try to copy what i see in pictures. Can't wait for your collab with Sarah! How did you two find one another and how did the friendship start? Do you have major different views from one another on minimalism?

I love it. I'm going to experience JOMO on catholosism. I was being told that catholosism is funner than christianity because they have so many celebrations. But I'm sticking to christianity and I love solitude anyway and was feeling stress about becoming catholic because all of the parties I would need to attend.

こんにちは Vera, thanks for another awesome video packed with wonderful reminders. My question for your next video. "How do you find your culture affects your minimalist experience: local/national expectations, mindset, norms etc. (In ways that are perhaps not an issue for minimalists from different nations/cultures.)" Thanks!

Important. I feel left out often. Whether that's activities or things I'd like. I don't feel like I have a very high opinion of my life and probably have depression on top of my anxiety. If you have any advice on how I can do something fun without money, need it.
