Two shows I stopped watching are: How to get away with murder and One of us is lying. I did not find it fun anymore to watch. It's also dark and tense the whole time not just 5 minutes in an episode but there are always lies and secrets uncovered. I prefer BBC's Sherlock and Netflix' Lucifer. So I get why you stopped watching the walking dead

Leuke video! Jouw engels is trouwens fantastisch!
@SimpleHappyZen20 сағат бұрын
Hoi Bart!

Great in theorie , but not in practice . This is a very romantic version of life in Holland . The country is so overcrowded which adds to irritation . When going out for a walk Alina the Rijn with a dog NEVER have two people walking together gone single file to let you walk past each other . Never has any one said thankyou when I zit my dog down to let them go past !!! If Nederlander stands in the Middle of a Path they will not move to let you go by ….. it is a land of IKKI ( me ) and all that entails …….

Hey. Drink vooral water of thee.

Zesjescultuur does hinge upon the way we grade our students, so you can't just translate it to other cultures!! You will only receive a six if you've grasped enough of the material to understand the next steps in your learning. A six is NOT 60%!! In my school, we would be subtracted one point per mistake on certain tests, meaning that a six would be something like 85%! Passing grades are called "voldoende", meaning enough, or adequate. A 5.5 or below is "onvoldoende", not adequate, meaning you did not master the material. Having too many onvoldoendes by the end of the year does also mean you are not allowed to graduate to the next year and must either make up for it during the summer holidays (rare) or re-do the entire year, and it may even mean you'll have to switch schools. Zesjescultuur is NOT a good thing if it's doing the bare minimum to scrape by. That'll stress you out more since you have no buffer for when you're going through a bad time! But when it's the goal to perform well enough to follow along and get the information in place so that you can continue growing without being anxious about the details, that's just having a healthy work-life balance!

I am 57, was brought up in a military family with very high expectations and pressure. I had success in several careers, and realized I was always looking for happiness. When I only recently realized that I am actually happier when good enough is achieved…happier, more active, excess weight coming off easily, making better decisions is easier and I am calmer and more forgiving ❤ My husband and I secretly eloped, then had a minimalist wedding on the beach, 20 years ago. My father in law said it was absolutely the best wedding he’d ever been to✨

I used to listen to the radio while getting ready for work, between radio hosts talking between themselves, advertisements, music, and just the constant blah blah blah I found myself uptight, nervous and rushing around! I stopped listening to the radio in the morning probably 15 years ago and just that little change made my mornings so much calmer. I didn't even realize that it was doing that to me, I think I needed the outlet for something else, and then realized how much better I felt without the radio yelling at me, lol.

I love your tips so much! I was pausing at every point & making reminders to myself to do so many of your suggestions! One thing I recently started that hugely simplified my life is to ditch all my night creams, and use castor oil (organic, cold pressed, hexane free) and my skin have never looked better! I regret the thousands of dollars I've spent over the years on all those fancy creams 😢

I’ve always been very good at not buying bags/purses. I have been extremely mindful of using up items until they’re gone. I have already started decluttering and not buying holiday decor but…. BUT my downfalls are plants, seeds, and makeup!!!! I have gotten better over the last few years with the makeup. I have only 2 foundations I buy (when they run out completely) I only have 2 powders I use but blush, lipstick and the worst of all MASCARA!! I have a compulsion when I see mascara!! I’m going to work this year on the one mascara that I am satisfied with and stick with it. You are an uplifting joyful wonderful channel!!!

Interesting. I'm in Canada but came from a Latin country as a child. Latins always offer food to their guests. They don't take no for an answer. And parties go on for as long as they go on. Here, it's by invite only. Party invitations will always specify the end time. Ei: birthday party from 4 to 6 pm. Then you know when you're expected to leave. Better than being told: "Ok, I'm tired, you have to leave now" lol. Cultures are so different. It's good to know what to expect before visiting or living in a country. Thank you! ❤

I don't have any specific restrictions on what I'll buy because I'm very picky about that already but I will be letting go of stuff. It's something I've always struggled with, probably because of how much it takes for me to buy something. But I finally feel ready (and financially secure enough) to have less. I'll be clearing out my fridge, kitchen cupboards, papers, books and clothes

There is a similar concept in America to "sixes culture". It is represented by the phrase "C's get degrees". Unfortunately, our universities are very competitive to get into, so high school grades can matter a lot. However, once in university, the grades matter less - but it is hard to let go of the perfectionist mindset of getting the best grades. A lot of students start to burn out partway through their degrees, because they feel that they have to get an "A" in every class. (The grades are alphabetical, A-F, skipping E for some reason, and a "C" is considered a passing grade in most situations.) That's where "C's get degrees" comes in. As long as you pass all the necessary classes to get the degree, it doesn't matter if you passed with the best grade or the bare minimum grade. Once you have the degree, very few employers care about what the grade average actually was, they just want to see that you learned enough to do the job. It's a good thing to remind yourself of when you're a student, so that you can make it to graduation day without making yourself sick from stress!

I’m interested in how the “Six” culture works out in the workplace. Here in the US there is an over-emphasis on productivity, perfectionism, always going above and beyond. It’s caused so much burnout in many of us.

I tried the one year rule at a previous job. I felt like I was struggling and progressing too slow. My manager said he didn’t expect me to be up to speed till one year in. I thought this was a red flag, but I tried it anyways. Well turns out I was right. There were so many issues at the company that slowed everything down. Plus, I realized I didn’t want to go down this career path anymore. But I wouldn’t let myself quit till 1 year. After about 8 months, I needed a 3 week medical leave for a mental health Partial Hospitalization Program because I was spending 4 hours a day anxiously pacing up and down the hall instead of working. The program really put things in perspective. At the 11 month mark, I quit without another role lined up. The thought of staying was scarier than the thought of leaving with nothing lined up. That was about 1 year and 4 months ago. Haven’t looked back since. I’ve started my own company and I feel much more confident in my abilities. I’m out of money now (temporarily), but I’m still happier than when I was making $70k a year. Long story short, if every fiber of your being knows a job isn’t the right fit, don’t torture yourself waiting for a year to go by.

Love so much of this. Schools here get funding based on performance so there is always pressure to perform as high as possible... which is very stressful for everyone. I love the direct approach so the Dutch way of these simple habits are very practical to me. Bringing your own birthday treats ensure you get to pick something YOU like. Being direct about when a guest is expected to leave.. very nice. And the ability to NOT overextend yourself financially because someone has popped in is very nice. I see it as boundary settings and it is very healthy. I also am very thrifty so I appreciate this part of your culture too. I think I would be very comfortable living in Dutch culture. I also love the lower pressure on wedding expenditures. The USA has gotten ridiculous.

Question……could you clarify -- did you say the Dutch value “high quality” food or the “quantity” of food? I wasn’t sure with your wording and I found this particularly interesting. (Thank you for this very interesting info!)
@SimpleHappyZenКүн бұрын
Hi! I meant most people probably prefer large quantities (getting good value for money) and don't focus so much on quality. But not everyone is like that of course :) I value quality over quantity, also when it comes to food. But most people here think they're not getting their money's worth, unless it's a LOT.
