Thumbs up on the power of systems! I sell mostly hard goods and was spending way too much time looking for the right size box in my pile of Amazon orders, asking for newspapers from neighbors and saving every scrap of packing paper. And then having to measure every box once packed to correctly fill in required size fields. One day I thought, why not just buy boxes in standard sizes?! I bought boxes in 12", 10", 8", 6", a huge pack of recycled packing paper and a few rolls of bubble wrap. I can now box up and ship a package in about half the time I was spending. Sure, it cost money for supplies, but my time has value (as does my sanity).

One thing that helped me is checking sell through rate and being ruthless about what I pick up. I run the business out of my house, so there is only so much room for storage. I also tend to fill my cart and then put back the worst 20% of items that I found. Also trying to find a minimum profit threshold that you're happy with. Mine is $7-10 right now, but I'd like it to be closer to $12-15 in the future. Planning, numbers, and comps! I've learned so much from you!

great information, the best thing I've done for my business is to stop comparing myself to other resellers, also, there is more than enough for everyone and I don't need to be breaking my neck trying to source ALL THE THINGS, what is meant for me will still be there. I am much more laid back about sourcing now and it feels so much better.
@monicamartinez51415 ай бұрын
I started out with learning brands and whats trending from resellers like yourself and I recently just starting looking up and studying what sold on my platform myself and it's made sourcing better for me so many more styles and brands I never would have looked at before.

Biggest change I made was to stop listing on platforms where I made very few to no sales. Best time saver, even with having a cross-posting service (List Perfectly). Also stopped thrifting brands just because I liked them. Went more with what was selling and that has improved my sales as well.

Yes! Great customer service is crucial! 2 weeks ago I had a sale (she paid), and she asked me if I could hold the package and mail it on June 5th (today), because she is on a trip and returning around now. I told her not a problem, and have a fun/safe trip! And another example…. customer messaged me saying an item is more coral than red and does not match her wardrobe, and went on an on about it….it was very cringe of her, and then she demanded a refund and a paid shipping label to return it. I offer free returns/free shipping paid for by me. I not only apologized but gave her all the steps to do the return, even though she did not request how to do the return. Just in case she was not sure how/ I wanted her to have a streamlined process. I have a lot of repeat buyers! In facebook groups I see so many sellers wanting to argue with their buyers over issues that arise. All that does is create less buyers on ebay, and we all lose. Be overly kind when messaging the buyer, and then vent if you need to about the situation to a safe person that is willing to lend a sympathetic ear.

Just a question about delaying your shipment like that - how do you let ebay know why your item hasn't shipped yet?
@SongsbyCharleneApril5 ай бұрын
@@helpfulcommenter I paid/printed the shipping label and got the item packaged up right away (upon payment received), and then set it aside with a note to mail out on the customers requested date. The message exchange is the proof I could provide to Ebay if somehow Ebay or the Buyer tried to penalize me.
@helpfulcommenter5 ай бұрын
@@SongsbyCharleneApril Oh okay - usually if you don't get your origin scan done in the time (not just paid for your label) that you specify in your shipping policy then Ebay automatically dings you with a late shipment, so you might check into that. There's two phases to shipping: one - generating the tracking number via purchasing the label, and then two - getting your origin scan done on time.

It’s hard because I’m not a full time reseller. I sell maybe 1-3 items a week. If that. This means I don’t see trends in what I sell so I have to rely on what Posh/Depop says is trending and read articles too. Aside from all that, I don’t sell trendy, expensive items, I sell various aesthetic type clothing in the 17-25yo category. So my numbers and results will be skewed due to that. Just some tips I’ve come to find if anyone isn’t able to read trends from their sales!

My best hint was to take the knockdowns and learn from them. Count it as it cost of your education. Be willing to take input and learn how it can be used in *your* business. Always keep up with the market you are in. Learn how to recognize quality and specific pattern/design/style. Don’t get sucked in by cute. Do the research. Assume the best of others but always do the common sense things to cover your butt.

I'm just starting out but am so surprised how researching one item leads to a BOLO on another. Example...I found a bowl from the Cabin Kraft Meadowland line that I just love. In researching the line on line it lead me to discover Oak Meadow Home Schooling books which appear to have an excellent resell rate. Who knew?

Mindset can go a long way, as can research. I think research is where a lot of us don’t spend enough time. Could help us focus better when we go thrifting.

I don't think you give yourself enough credit ;) You are amazing at all this! I have always had 100% customer service just as you describe. (been in business on my own for almost 40 years. Not reselling but service related...) People waste so much energy typing about customer things that happen. I never ever have done that. And the best thing I have done probably most regret I didn't do sooner? Because of watching you? FREE RETURNS! I am BLOWN away by how scary that thought always was and how it has gone. 50 days since I did it and 2 return requests on items that were old stock low sales and I just refunded and moved on. Definitely best business decision ever. Thank you again!!!! Will you be making your weekly sales video today? Can't wait to hear about promotions ;)

Cool to hear a big reseller talking about customer service like that. I agree it's so important. For every Tina there's a hundred well-intentioned buyers who just want a good deal on good merchandise and to know there's a reputable seller on the other end. It's easy to get cynical for a while after you deal with enough Tinas but I try to remind myself the majority of people are not trying to scam or cause trouble.

Do you use software for your inventory management. And how do you determine your profitability over a certain period of time?
@cayleyelaine5 ай бұрын
I just use custom skus within the platforms to keep track of inventory. I also use List Perfectly (a crossposting tool) to keep track of which items are on which platform. Each platform I sell on generates reports for me every month. I basically just combine those reports onto my own spreadsheet along with my cost of goods to determine profitability.
