So funny, I just told my coworker today that I have no plans to retire. I’m your age and I don’t have any issues with my current job and it’s completely stress free. I make good money and I have a life outside of work. I enjoy the low cost health benefits, the funding of a pension and a generous 401k. So for now, I’m going to live in these blessings and continue with gratitude!

@broco6608 I totally understand. There were many times in my career where I had a job I didn’t enjoy. I’m at the tail end of my career and I am blessed with a job where my coworkers are spread across the country so there’s very little day to day interaction. And I have the ability to work from home a few days out of the week. That helps tremendously. I work in finance.

How are you contributing to society?” And my answer is that my life is full of everything I want it to be. I have time to enjoy hiking the beautiful cliff beaches where I live and to listen to the gulls overhead and feel the wind on my face. I volunteer and read and and crochet things for my granddaughter and have meaningful conversations with my husband and friends and family and strangers. I take care of myself, I laugh a lot and explore. Life is pretty damn good and I’m finally learning not to care what others think. Thank you!! ❤

I’m 50 and fully agree with u! When I turned 45 or 46 I decided I am no longer going to do anything that I don’t want to do. My children were grown they’re still grown and I am just doing what I want to do. I’m not married any longer. I don’t have a boyfriend. I’m not dating. I’m just letting God guide me and I’m doing what I want to do. I love it. I feel like I don’t know. I can’t explain it. I just feel like I literally am going and have been telling friends, family people the truth when I don’t wanna do something. I don’t make excuses why I can’t come to their house party or go with them to an event. If I don’t wanna go, I just say I don’t feel like going. It makes me feel better inside to be truthful to myselfand to them. So there’s many things that I’m not going to do that. I’ve decided I’m not going to be complicit for anyone. I love your video.

Do not listen to anyone who tells you that you will regret not having children! It makes no sense for someone who has children to say you'll regret not having any. How do they know? Because they have them? That's about the same as someone without kids telling ppl they'll regret having kids. I know women who are over 70 that do not regret not having kids. I think sometimes when ppl say stuff like zyajones did, it is because they are not happy with their lives and although they may not realize it, they want everyone to go through what they did. She sounds really bitter actually. I'm glad to be here but my mother should not have had children and I think she would have been happier if she hadn't. She physically abused me my entire childhood and even hit me in the face once after I was an adult. It's more complicated than being told you should have children because you are female. Sorry for the long rant but your choice is your choice and no one should shame you for it!

I have a good job making good money and have been working from home since 2010. My husband is actually retired Military, but still choose to work a fulltime job because we can. Plus, in this economy, any extra coins is always good. Especially if you CAN still earn a living physically and mentally. A lot of this foolery with some of this younger generation......NOT ALL....is just ludicrous. I actually know quite a few young folks that are still hard workers, respectful, mindful and just great young people, whom I very proud of.

Retirement in our 50s is absurd. I’m 56 and started my independent art career 4 years ago. I’m just getting started actually doing what I always wanted to do. And being an artist is the long game. I never want to stop making my art. I agree with you. I avoid the sun like the plague since my early 20s. The opposite of aging is dying young. It’s a blessing and a privilege to be alive and grow old.
@LifewithLissetteАй бұрын
It truly is a blessing and privilege. POWERFUL WORDS! Congratulations to you for starting your career doing something you love which is art! I can't draw to save my life. Stick figures is the best I can do so I admire you for being able to express yourself thru art. Have you considered starting a channel that teaches others basic drawing techniques? If so, I will surely subscribe because I can use a little help. Thank you for your thoughtful comment and your support. ♥

Good chat. I'm thriving at 65! I'm living my best life, too, though my definition included retiring early. Funny bit: Every time I talked to co-workers to say goodbye, they asked "What are you going to do?". At first, I was perplexed and had no answer. Isn't retirement about doing nothing? Finally, the answer came to me. I would tell them "I'm going to live.". You mention your place in life, and the years behind you. Feeling better than when you were twenty-five. I think that's about the confidence born of all life's experiences, including relationships, career and owning a home. It feels like we've been training all these years, and now have a certain calm clarity. We may not know all the answers, but there are far fewer open questions than when we were twenty-five! I feel secure, able to handle the challenges sent my way, and the freedom to pursue passions closest to my true self. The Me I'd always wished for me. Thanks for a post worth watching. Best of fortune to you.

This whole comment made me tear up and smile the whole time. There is so much truth here and you said it eloquently and perfectly, especially the part about we have been in training for most of our lives. That is so true. Thank you! I needed to hear as a little reminder as I’m getting ready for work..at 59 …im typically wearing jeans…vee neck tees…Keds sneakers and usually a pony tail with minimal makeup. My uniform for two decades and I’m fine with it! I will be selling my paid for home for a much smaller home so I can spend more time having FUN and less time doing housework. I’m single though, so I do it all - inside and outside and it’s a lot. Also, I have a friend (65) who is a gem…but she has a terrible habit of noticing every woman…strangers…and noticing how “old they look”. I remind her gently “not everyone has Botox and fillers injected every 60 days (as she does). I don’t…I’m far more wrinkly than her…but that’s okay too! I don’t have a duckbill for an upper lip and a frozen face. I’m going to retire in a few years…but I’m sure I’ll work somewhere part time a few days a week. I’m happier now at 59 than at 35 because frankly, I’m doing ME and don’t give a rip what others think! It’s incredibly freeing! Thank you Lisette! You are beautiful and so smart! 😉💜

I went thru a lot of heartache and lost so much time with my girls and family to then lose the job I had given so much of my life to, at 48 years old. I was devastated and hit rock bottom. That experience taught me so many invaluable lessons and propelled me to get laser focused on my worth, praying hard and being patient for the right job which is what landed me the job I have today. I hope this message gives you hope! Thank you for sharing and for your support. 🦋

Going to another State this weekend to see my Daughter & 2 Grand Daughters as well as my Parents. I am taking most of my clothes with me & my Daughter is going to help me decide what to keep & what to donate. My wardrobe needs to be pared down so bad. So she’s happy to help me do it. Then back to work after a long weekend. And I’m going back to school to further my Nursing degree starting in January. I am scared to death & excited all at the same time. Young lady, you GO back to school, and pursue all that your heart desires. Be it education or whatever you choose. Your “mission,” if you choose to accept it ( remember the line from Mission Impossible? Lol), is to live your best life for you, without harm to others, with the knowledge that tomorrow is promised to no one. Go for it girlie!! And listen only to your heart, not what others think or want you to do. Your age has nothing to do with your passion for life. You got this. Now, go study them books❤❤❤. Wishing you all the best.

I've raised one and have another (16) I'm taking care of, but our kids, they know we love them and can call if they need us, but it's time to shift my focus on me and what I want & need as a 53yo woman. I'm not old, but older, wiser, and living my best life. And I will love again..I refuse to believe that I can't fall in love & remarry at my age. But Im not desperate or in a rush either, when it's time it will happen. Nor do I need to date men my age! I can date any adult who respects and makes me happy ❤ Thank you for this video Sis, if was just the reminder, I needed to keep being and doing me. I'm looking forward to more conversations and support like this!

Thank you for sharing your story. It is importsnt that we take care of ourselves and do what makes us happy. We can’t fill from an empty cup so making sure that we do things that gives us joy is essential. I am so happy that you are doing all of the above. Everything happens at the moment and time when we are ready to receive it whether it be a relationship, a job or any kind of change for that matter. Self-care is NOT selfish. Keep going you. I appreciate your support. 🦋

2nd video I've watched after finding you today! 62 here and thinking the same way you do! Changing a few things for sure but I was widowed at 53 and just recognizing I can do me. Whatever I want. Retired this year. Moving in a forward, positive me is my biggest goal. Life can be short.

As a 34 years old, others and people's opinions have never lived in my life since I can remember, I don't care...as long as it serves me, makes me happy that's all that matters... people's expectations have no room in my life ....

I wish I knew at 34 what I know now. Kudos to you for already figuring it out because you are ahead of most and that is amazing. Live life on YOUR terms. Thank you for your comment & support. ♥

I love your message. I think we should do this at any age not just in our 50's live our lives for us not for others.

Luv your video!!!🎉 Keep doing you my friend! Butterfly era is an awesome way to describe this phase in life. I am a 63 yrs. old single woman of Dominican descent, who raised two sons alone and now is my time to be in the butterfly era. I still have no clue when I will retire. I am just enjoying my life! And I'm saving, also trying to pay my house mortgage in full and investing. Thank you for speaking up about the privilege of aging. I agree with you about stereotype. I cannot engage in conversations about pain & discomforts because I am also living a full & purposeful life. I eat mostly wholefoods and workout daily, I feel great. My life has never been better.❤❤
