Thank you, Jordan, for the confirmation. 21 years ago, after growing up between Ft Worth and Dallas, I moved to Germany and am still here. It was perhaps the wisest decision of my life so far. As the years go by, I have less and less desire to even visit over there, but still do sometimes. It is likely that after retirement I will stay here - for the quality of life, for the health care, and for my friends here. Homesickness comes and goes, but I almost never get it now, especially after the most recent developments over there. Just let life here happen to you and you will develop and discover life where we have freedom to do many things.

There is homesickness and there is culture shock, and often, they are difficult to tell apart. So what you interpret as homesickness could also be a form of culture shock. Not the obvious culture shock, but the one that typically sneaks up on us after about 6-12 months in a new culture when we rationalise that by now we are comfortable in the new place and understand the culture, while somewhere in the back of our brain we have doubts whether we really do.

If you feel homesick, then you can of course plan a short trip to see family and friends back home. Booking a flight ticket doesn't have to mean you go back forever as you seemed to assume for some reason. That being said, traveling from the US to other countries doesn't have to be more expensive than anywhere else. You just have to pick the right airline, the right airport and the right date. And picking the right combination of those three things will already save you a lot of money. It's like shopping around for a good deal. That being said you can take the bus in the US to travel between big cities. Flixbus and Greyhound come to mind. They aren't expensive.
@jsmacks11Ай бұрын
I don't know. I rarely leave the U.S. but Interstate Air travel can suck. Flying from Ga to Mo, I pretty regularly pay about $300 round trip but that doesn't include Baggage fees, Transportation to the Airport, Parking (if you decide to leave your car at the Airport). And searching online for deals is an Art. They do come up but sometimes they don't and if you get put in a busy life period where you aren't checking Airline ticket prices, your roundtrip prices can skyrocket to $500-$600. That said traveling to more popular U.S. Cities tend to be cheaper than travelling to less popular cities (which I do more of the latter). And Driving can be a pain too. Traffic, Roadwork, Weather are the biggest issues but is also time. U.S. being more spread out means you usually have to drive much further when you are "going out of town". So some towns, you might have to drive 5 hours or so to get to another Big City. I think the East Coast is more dense though where you can cover more cities with less driving.

Winters are mild (compared to other parts of the Country) but it does get Cold enough to complain about. What i am finding is nowhere has perfect Weather. Just took a Trip to Long Beach Ca in June, and for June Long Beach gets pretty Cold (compared to Eastern U.S. in the Summertime). Not Cold but it was definitely Cold enough to want a Jacket and I don't think the Sun really came out the whole time I was there. I thought I was in a different State as it wasn't the Sunshine state. I guess I will find the odd time to go somewhere when it isn't having its normal Weather. I also remember taking a business trip to Amarillo Tx in the middle of January. Talk about Cold. I went from. @JaneFokster2 ай бұрын
@@JordanGreenYT Hi, Dutch person here. I believe 4 weeks paid vacation is mandatory in the whole EU. Many Dutch workers have more though, like 6 or even 8 weeks. It depends a lot on something called 'arbeidsduurverkorting' (ADV) and how that is handled by your boss/company. It basically means that if you're hired for a full time job in NL, it's usually 36 hours a week. However, how those 36 hours are distributed over the week can be different at different companies or even between employees. A normal work day is 8 hours, so some ppl work 4 & a half days p/w and have every friday afternoon off, for example, while somebody else has a whole day off once a fortnight. Or, ppl do work 40 hours a week (5x8), and save up those 4 extra hours they worked for extra vacation days, to be spent whenever they want. So about 4 weeks are actual mandatory (by law) vacation days and on top of that many ppl have more due to constructions as described above.

You raise a valid point, especially as a KZbinr with location-independent income. However, for someone in a traditional 9-to-5 role, the salary disparity between the U.S. and the Netherlands (or Europe as a whole) can be stark. In many cases, people in the Netherlands earn only a fifth of what they would make for the same job in the U.S. Even after accounting for benefits like healthcare, 401(k) retirement savings (similar to Dutch pensions), and unemployment insurance, disposable income in the U.S. often remains at least three times higher than in the Netherlands. This is a significant trade-off, even though the Dutch may try to frame lower income as a favorable aspect of their lifestyle.

@JaneFokster2 ай бұрын
I get your point, but the difference between European countries is really a lot bigger than US states. And yes, I know that the states are not all the same either, but in Europe you usually get a different language, different cuisine, different customs/culture, different brands, different shops and sometimes even a different currency. This, in combination with shorter distances and having a lot of paid vacation, makes that Europeans are much more used to travelling abroad. Most people I know HAVE been outside of Europe. Many have been to the US/Canada/Mexico, even if only on a city trip to NYC (like I have), but also Asia (Thailand is very popular), Africa (Morocco in the north and South Africa are popular), Australia and New Zealand. Many Dutch ppl in particular have also been to Curacao and Aruba in the Caribbean (which are sovereign countries, but part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands).

Probably too quiet where you are, maybe a bigger city would be better. You will be back in the US though within the next 6 months

You manifested it bro! It's crazy. I feel like those NoFap vlogs weren't that long ago, but it's actually been almost a year. I appreciate you for still tapping in after all this time 💪🏾

I kinda liked where you were gonna go until you started talking ab global warming. It’s something politicians like to take about and how it’s destroying the planet. While the climate is changing you can’t just be out here and say global warming is occurring it’s the extremes of both hot and cold.
@JordanGreenYT2 ай бұрын
You're right! I used global warming as a catch-all term for climate change, but it's definitely a bit misleading. Hopefully, we can get things moving in the right direction in the coming years 👍🏾

@@JordanGreenYT My husband is a geologist and he hates that “global warming” became the term. It’s too misleading to cover what’s actually going on. Climate change is accurate but not confusing. ✌🏻

I've been living in Europe for 2 years. Originally, I’m from Ukraine. Honestly, Europe is just such a scam in every way. I’m not only not liking it, I dislike it very much. I've also lived in Asia and think that it's the best. The only downside is the time zone.
@JordanGreenYT2 ай бұрын
I appreciate the insight! I've enjoyed Europe quite a bit, but I'm definitely curious to see what Asia has to offer. It seems like the cost of living to quality of life ratio is much better over there 🤔
