I've had the forte GT 6-speed manual for about a year now and here are the things that I dislike. The car does not have a short shift throw. The cruising rev on the highway is a tad high. I wish it had a limited slip differential, but I guess that's the compromise for getting a lower priced sports car. I don't think I had the paint problems you're mentioning for your car, nor do I notice any noise at 3,000 rpm. Like you I love this car very much and it's a blast to drive. I will never get tired of the really nice exhaust note. And you're right, manual transmissions are a dying breed and my plan is to keep this car till it completely breaks down.

I just purchased a 22 GT manual. I can only drive manuals. Just more fun and engaging for me. Glad they added the center seats in the 22s for sure. I hate sunroofs though and wish I didn’t have to have that on mine

Your car is absolutely beautiful, I love the black. I live in Australia and I’m 18 and the Australian laws on driving is ridiculous, to sum it up…I bought a 2022 Cerato GT and it’s barely legal for a new solo driver. My Cerato GT does fix 4/5 of the issues you spoke about, my GT is a non metallic flat white and I’ve noticed zero issues with it. The exhaust has also been changed for the facelift model so it’s more aggressive, and although the Australian / Asian market does not receive a manual, we do get every single option as standard with the only option being a metallic paint. However it’s true that it still is a Kia however I’ve still had compliments from multiple car guys because of the value and the popularity of them. This car truely is in my opinion the best value affordable sports car on the market today. It’s getting compared to the Golf GTI (which is not a real competitor performance wise as it’s got an extra 41hp) but the Cerato GT has more features….for $20,000 AUD cheaper. It’s more reliable than the competition and even compared to its sister company Hyundai and the i30 N line (Elantra N Line) it’s cheaper and has more features than that…Kia I think hit it out of the park. However like you said and I agree with you, no car is perfect. So here are my personal flaws 1.) The head room - I’m 6’3 and my head has a minuscule amount of room. If your 6’5 maybe even 6’4 your head will rub. Any taller you will not fit in this car. (This is because for May MY21 they made the sunroof standard) 2.) The infotainment - I think this car has the easiest infotainment system compared to its rivals…however the rivals wouldn’t have the issue where it constantly shuts off and occasionally mutes the sound permanently (Audio, Door chimes, Alerts and parking sensor sounds included) until somehow 30 minutes later it decides it wants to play again (This is probably an ECU / Programming issue so I believe a quick service will fix that) 3.) Traffic collision warnings - (I know you can turn these off but I like them on) It’s like a 3 year old child or like driving with your Mother for the first time…WHATEVER you do and whatever journey it WILL beep at you and it WILL tug the steering wheel or turn on the blind spot alarm when you have miles of room. 4.) Exhaust note - (You all in America don’t have to deal with this) don’t get me wrong the car sounds great, but in America the Forte GT has a louder exhaust note (I believe because of petrol particulate filters and other regulations that are mandatory in Australia / Asian markets) so it can sound like a bit of a sewing machine idling whilst in America it sounds great. (You may say “Why don’t you get an exhaust” well Australian insurance companies are tight asses and will do anything to void your warranty if they find it’s not stock) 5.) Fuel consumption - I’m a pretty easy on driver but no matter what I do I struggle to get what Kia claims of 9.3km per 100L in city driving. My car RIPS through fuel and each tank only gives me 530km of fuel.

@@SSZGT Exactly right. Here in Australia compared to the US we don’t get a manual option at all, we also by default have every option fitted “as standard”. We also get a quieter exhaust and also we get much better tires as standard I believe, we get Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s whilst in America you get Kumo’s as standard. But Asia gets the best with the digital dash that you get in the K5 and the new Hyundai’s and Kia’s which is exclusive to the Asia market.

I caught that you said you are in the Atlanta area and had a limited selection. I live in Georgia also, close to Athens. I had trouble finding a GT anywhere near me back in June 2021. I went to Kia Mall of Georgia, where they had only 2, one black and the other red. I went to look at and test drove the black one, but immediately fell in love with the red when I saw it, so I bought it off the showroom floor. I would have been okay with a manual but have no issues with the DCT at all. You can leave it on auto, use the paddle shifters, or bump the stick over and shift that way. Shifting is quick and smooth. The exhaust sound is totally sick, with a nice throaty rumble. I absolutely love my car!

BTW.... I have absolutely zero paint issues or any issues with my spoiler. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the color. If you recall, some car companies have had trouble with certain colors fading faster or having flaws when applied. Maybe it's simply because it's black. Just a thought.

Yes, I got lucky I was able to get what I wanted. I actually wanted red, blue, or black! There's nothing wrong with the DCT, honestly a lot of people overhype driving manual. I think the color could be a reason the adhesive melted a bit, but Kia did me good an replaced it, so I'm all good!

I got my Forte GT in Deep Sea Blue with GT2 package mated to the DCT about 4 months ago. It took about 2 weeks for them to find one in another state that had just arrived off the truck lol. They needed an SUV, and I needed their Forte GT lol, so they got a dealer trade going and I got it the next day! I've been in love with it ever since! The only thing that I kind of really hate is the FCA (Forward Collision Assist) when it slams on the brakes out of blue. The first time it happened I thought something had messed up in the transmission... But other than that, it's been an awesome car and keeps impressing me everyday.

I just bought the 2023 GT Manual and you now get heated seats, wireless Apple car play, all the tech except intelligent cruise and the syntex seats. The only thing that bugs me is how busy the shifter has to be! I mean it wants me to be in 6th gear at 40 mph! Shift, shift, shift….I researched this $26,400 purchase in depth and love the Snow White pearl paint and the all black interior. Great car! Also some dealers in Austin were marking up the car thousands of dollars!! Kia’s new logo is cool too. It’s a hot brand for sure.

Mine definitely has the shifter buzzing at 3K. I've had the entire shift block assembly replaced once, that didn't fix the issue.

My 2020 Kia Forte Gt has 27,760 miles on it and the paint is perfect and the spoiler isn't coming off it is still on there pretty solid. I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket spoiler and getting more aggressive side and fender ground effects.

Just bought a GT from carvana. I am excited to get it! I have had this engine in my grandmothers Tuscon and if it scoots in that it will scoot in this. I am moving from a 2013 Dodge Dart Mopar Edition. I hate to trade it, but the transmission is unlivable after multiple repairs. SO excited for this car

I have the white one, I have gotten up to 42mpg going the speed limit and on cruise control, gotta love the fuel efficiency. Normal people gave me compliments, my favorite one is car guys try to flix their V8's that is automatic or truck guys telling me that real men get trucks, but they barely drive it because their trucks and V8's consume too much gas. Is a great car, I got mine on march 2021 and will make a video as well after having it for 2 years, best car I had and will drive it until it gives out on me.

I did need the bottom extension on the driver side to be replaced because it wasn't attached properly, kind of like your spoiler. But they ordered, painted and replaced the part in a few days. Looks perfect now.

I'm actually looking into that short shifter as well! I plan on taking with a tech at the dealership about it. Someone on the forum said that it was the lockout spring buzzing, so I may try that first.

I took mine in to the dealer and they replaced the shift block assembly for the same rattle. The new one also rattles, so no fix for it yet I guess.

I have the EXACT same car, and the paint is Gorgeous (Metallic Gray), the Manual Stick DOES NOT buzz AT ALL.........and the other things you hate about this car doesn't really bother me....I think its a personal preference; but I will add that I wonder why there is no Garage Door opener button to sync with your Automatic Garage Door??!! That's the only thing I don't like about the car. The manual transmission is great for this GT model; however, after a year driving this car, I wish I had an automatic!

i am actually surprised that they sold the car to you with that paint damage but its not something I haven't seen before. I work with new kias a lot and one thing I can tell you is that the paint absolutely sucks on these cars especially if they come from Mexico factories. The paint is just so soft for some reason and is very easily scratched even by the covers and tape they put on from factory that are supposed to protect the car from all that. Dont know why but almost every kia, especially the black ones, that comes in from Mexico have something wrong with the paint and always needs correction even right off the trucks. i love my forte gt and those cooled seats are so awesome

All I can say is that they have a 100k mile/10 year powertrain warranty, so that alone should give you some assurance. I am at about 10k miles with no issues. I do my oil changes every 3k miles. I think it should be pretty reliable but if you plan on mods, I am unsure. All I have done is a short throw shifter.

I recently bought a '22 Forte, and watched this video to see if any of your gripes might apply to me since most of the differences between '21 and '22 are in exterior styling. 1. Hopefully, my paintjob will stay looking new for awhile. Fingers crossed. 2. Bought an automatic, so I won't have to worry about the buzzing. I had been driving manuals for the past 20 years, so getting an automatic seemed nice. Hadn't owned an automatic since my first car. 3. Because I opted for the automatic, I was able to get the heated/ventilated seats. Woo. 4. The '22 Forte GT has much better looking exhaust tips imo. 5. I'm fine driving a Kia. In my household and social circles, Kias are generally well regarded. Thanks a lot for your video though. I'll be keeping an eye out for my rear spoilers' adhesive giving way.

I have a 21 forte GT manual in space gray and I have no issues with the paint. Bought it brand new in Florida and brought it back home to Pennsylvania, out of necessity. Long story..... But I love the car. I mean it doesn't have the heated and cooled seats, but I'll take the Harman kardon sound system and the sunroof, over the cooled seats all day. But just comes down to preference I guess. And I've had people when I first got the car say Well. It's a Kia... So what I did I just bought aftermarket badges in "carbon fiber" one of kias offshoot logos from a few years ago and now people can't tell what it is. I honestly get asked if it's a Lexus all the time lol.. But the reason that Kia and Hyundai are getting cooler is because one of the main engineers from BMW now works for them as one of their lead engineers. But honestly, compared to my 2016 Kia soul, the forte is a massive step up. Not just in performance but luxury even... I'm currently working on modding it slowly but surely and I love my little Korean tuner. And regarding the exhaust tips, I think these are a lot cleaner looking than the new ones. To be honest. I don't like the new body style overall. Actually. I much prefer the 20-21s

If you wanted the cooling and heating seats the only come in the 2022 fortes unlike the 2021 forte top trims only have heated seats.

forte gt and si were about the same msrp. i considered one myself but where i'm at they're marked up to 32k while the elantra n line is at msrp, go fig. the si probably would have better build quality and a much better shifter. the new si is fully loaded at 28k with the only options summer tires. i'm probably gonna wait for the si.

When I bought this car they stopped making the previous gen si, so I could not get a “new” one and the dealer I went to was trying to sell a used one for about 29k lol. I have seen some markups on this car now and it’s sad and sadly the new civic msrp went up too but it’s a fantastic vehicle! I actually recently bought the 2022 Kia forte gt (automatic, gt2 package) and I have been LOVING it! I can't find a complaint about it. That "its a kia" stigma seems to be almost erradicated (at least where I am) and people are generally blown away about the car. The fit and finish is amazing and most of the critiques in this video are fixed in the next generation model. Paint is gorgeous (current red), the adhesive on the spoiler seems to be holding but time will tell. Additionally with the redesigned front and rear end, the exhaust tips look much nicer now along with the new headlight and tail light designs. Maybe the only negative thing I can say is the black reflective trim on the steering wheel kinda shines the sun right at your eyes if it's hit in the right way which can be annoying but sunglasses fix that entirely so yeah.

Buddy i have a gt line with sunroof heated seats rear ac and big 10" screen the seats you have are more comfortable 100% I'm a big guy and i hate the gt and gt line leather seats...when driving the cloth seats they where more comfortable...looks nice but suck so bad 1 hour road trip I'm suffering.. good choice on the gt with those seats

Speaking of features that are absent in more expensive cars: I believe it's one of only two cars left in the US under $70K to offer stick with leather seats and rear-seat a/c vents (GTI at $35K plus; BMW M-something at $70K plus). Not Civic, not GLI, not Mazda 3, not Elantra (ok, new WRX remains to be seen).

How's the car doing in 2024? I test drove this exact car today and liked it. Did not pull the trigger yet. Price is $18,900 w/8K miles. Car is spotless. Would you buy it again? I wouldn't knock Kia. I had a Sorento for 12 years and no issues except the clear coat started to bubble after 10 yrs.

Thanks for commenting. I actually traded in the Forte GT about a year ago because I wanted something a bit different. I will say I do miss this car and it was great when I had it! I would say the only “downsides” I had was that I wish the manual transmission was more notchy/had more feeling to it and the insurance prices at the time were getting a little out of hand in my area to the point is was almost the same as my monthly payment. Overall I would say if you can grab one for a good deal it is well worth it. The GT is sporty and drive like it. It’s interior for the price is fantastic and the steering wheel is actually my favorite out of all the cars I’ve owned.

@@SSZGT I know what you mean about the feeling of the shifter. It's nothing special. I test drove new WRX and manual shifter is much nicer. It feels solid and locks into gear nicely. My wife was warning me about the insurance on these Fortes. She talked me out of it. I still think the car was a steal for $18,900. They actually raised the price since then and it's still for sale. I'm surprised. I thought the car would sell fast. It has a good sound system, fun to drive, sunroof, great steering wheel for around $20k. In today's market, that's a steal IMO. I really liked driving the WRX. I may go for one soon.

I think lots of shoppers (possibly non-enthusiasts buyers) go for the K5 as it isn’t that much more and has a lot going for it as well. This could be why the Forte is going away and will now be the new K4. I actually like the new WRXs and it was on my mind of purchasing as well as I do enjoy WRC. Bro, the paint, the noise and the spoiler are all covered under warranty. Sure, nobody wants to go through it. But it's fixable. The thing I hate about my '21 gt manual is that it has the ability to put out way more power than they let it. But other than that, I love mine!

@@SSZGT You are partly right: the GT2 package still can't be had with the manual, meaning no power or ventilated seats, BUT the same "leather" seats without power and ventilation (but with heat) are STANDARD on the GT Manual for 2022 - and that's good enough for me because KIA previously stuck you with cloth seats if you wanted a GT with stick.

Meh on the manual I love my gt2 package and when I’m feeling manual I can switch to sport shift mode which is practically manual w/o having to mind the clutch. Also for the exhaust I agree but u can get a decent cat back for 900 bucks for this car.

I have the DCT with the GT2 package. In my opinion biggest issue this car has is the the gas tank is too small. Also that is doesn't have LED fog lights and turn signals.

I agree the gas tank does seem smaller than I thought it would be but I have no complaints. The non LED fog lights are okay but I plan on tinting them yellow so it’s not a big deal but would’ve been nice! Congrats the the GT2, I’m sure it’s nice.

I get around 380 miles a tank full with my Gt2 package and my buddy with his (same car) gets like 440 miles a tank full...mainly because he does a lot of highway driving going to work...mine is mainly local roads...so with that said I think the tank isn't an issue with my driving.

The tank isn’t an issue with mine, I have a GT2 21’ but I have no issues with mine. The real issue I’ve ever had is the DCT shifting it into reverse lags on engaging its clutch. Second issue I actually have is with people saying “it’s a Kia” 😒

@@cogtager Mine would buck a little going forward from a cold start but no issues with reverse...just hit 7000 miles on my 2020...oh my forward collision light just came on so I'm taking her to the dealership Tuesday.

I find that most brand new cars have paint issues specially black cars. They all usually require a paint correction. And at that point I would just get it ceramic coated and clear wrap. 😅

For me the N-Line was scarce and more expensive, so I did not go look at one but I did watch the recent Redline Reviews and a lot of comments say the Forte GT is nicer. I would go test them both but if the N-line is still as much as I remember, I would maybe save up for the full Elantra N.

Just so I understand...the paint, the spoiler, and the "buzzing" shifter are what I would consider "defects", while the other 2 items are a bit subjective (heated seats, exhaust tips). That said, I have 1 comment and some question. More than likely, within the next 3 months, I'll be buying a 2023 KIA Forte GT (manual) myself so you have raised some concerns. As for the paint, as you described it...another KIA in your area had deep scratches, as well as the scratches on your KIA. Might be a problem with delivery. Seems as though, despite the damage done during shipping, due to, I assume, COVID related problems and shortages, your local dealer was aware of the damage and took a "meh, someone will buy it" approach. Which leads me to my second, more important question.....for ME, my personal preference, I wanted a manual transmission (with a bit of HP) and an amazing warranty. I'm buying my KIA in 2023, the powertrain warranty shouldn't expire (as long as I follow the maintenance schedule) until 2033!!! So IF my math is correct, would not the buzzing shifter, the loose spoiler, and the paint still be covered under the 5yr/60k mile warranty? Again, for me, a HUGE selling point is the warranty. I'm under the impression, perhaps falsely, that: 2 years; sunroof won't open (covered) 18 months; heated seats stop working (covered) 4 years; touchscreen dies (covered) Would I be wrong? And if not, why are the items you listed not covered? Obviously I'm going to getting around to reading each and every fine print line of the warranty (again, yes, it means that much to me)...I have a few months. I just wondered if you had any experience with using the warranty thus far, and if you had any comments about that experience.

I just ordered my 2023 GT and the warranty should cover the shifter under the 10 year power train warranty. The paint should also be covered in a 36 month 36k mile warranty. I'm also a bit worried about the pain and etc but im hoping it'll arrive fine and if there's a problem the warranty should cover it. For the 2023 model we also get heated seats, I wish we got the ventilated ones as well and I don't see why not, but its better than nothing.

You’ve got 5 years warranty on your Kia and any if you have a problem just bring it to the Kia dealerships and have them address the issues. I’ve got all my problems fixed for free on my Hyundai suv within the 5 years warranty period

I literally have the same exact color and car for 2 years now and no issues at all. It seems like the dealers by you beat up on their cars cuz that’s what a lot of dealership valets do. And people love the car and no one ever talked down that it’s Kia. Their nicer and better quality than a lot of cars out there.

I have no issues with Kia cars, but they have been definetly talked down for awhile (and will still have a stigma) peoples opinions are their own. I will say they have much better interiors than Toyota. Kia is gaining its footing thanks to the K5 and Telluride pretty much.

I don't think paint, trans, and adhesive issues at 5K miles are silly things. I didn't see the paint issue until after they detailed it as it was just dirty from fall sitting in a lot, that said, I still decided to get the car because I got an amazing deal and there where only 3 manuals in ATL at the time of buying (looked at all 3 , this was the best). If yours doesn't have these issues, great! I want people to be aware of issue I see on a car with 5K miles.

If you bought it even though it had paint issues then you have no reason to gripe about it. If the paint was bad and you bought it anyway the dealership would have either fixed it or had you sign a disclosure saying that you were aware of the problem so wouldn't come back wanting a new paint job.Yes it's an inexpensive car not a Cadillac

If your paint is flawed (through no fault of your own from improper care of a black car), take it in to the dealer and make them fix it. If your shifter is vibrating and buzzing at 3K RPM take it to the dealer and make them fix it. If they spoiler is coming loose take it to the dealer and make them fix it. That's what your warranty is for - either put up for shut up. Every new car has small issues regardless of make or price. As far as the heated and cooled seats go you knew that it was a trade off - either your get the DCT to be able to get the GT2 package or the manual and live without them. That was your choice. You can't have everything exactly the way you want it in any car. Its irritating, but that's the way it is. I don't know why this video bugged me so much - I just hate to see someone pissing and moaning about minor issues that can be fixed or something they knew they couldn't have in the first place.

Thank you for the criticism. This video was made for the purpose of showing the cars flaws with ownership. The paint is no big deal, but it's something people should be aware of (as all other things). The shifter buzzing seems to be a common problem and I have read on forums that dealerships have been unable to fix it (even making it worse). The fact that minor issues are apart of a "HATE" video proves that this is a good car! I will be at the dealership having these things addressed :D I apologize a video that is meant to be informative makes you upset, but if your life sucks that much, you have my sympathy.

As far as the paint your color is black which i believe is free and the other color options which are more premium have a cost. The rear spoiler is an easy fix from KIA dealership service department. These korean automakers are kicking butt lately and folks who know about automotive news are taking notice.......

“It’s just a Kia” is childish. Its almost like people who make fun of others for the clothes and shoes they wear. At the end of the day wear and drive what you want. Nobody has given me that statement yet but I’ve seen it on forums and stuff. I have a 2020 Forte GT Line and I’ve got compliments from everybody. No criticism at all. And yeah it’s just a Kia but I love it, and usually the ones saying that statement drive the most unreliable “fast cars” thinking that makes them better than everyone else. It’s corny tbh. Nice GT man. I’m not a manual guy or I would’ve opted for it.

Congrats on the GT-Line! Honestly I like that model for the bigger NA motor, and it may do you better in the long run too.

I have 2021 Forte EX+ (Canadian version) and i (stayed) far away from 1.6 Turbocharged motor which is only 54hp more than the naturally aspirated 2.0 IVT or CVT. My advice to yourself is change your oil before 6000miles/km and dont drive it too aggressively turbocharged motors and small engine dont last long when driven aggressively.........

Thanks for the advice! I do agree, small turbo motors aren't the most sturdy, and I do oil changes every 3000 miles. I do drive "spiritly" but I believe this motor will hold up for the time being.

@@Aaron-ui9tj I have driven 2021 Forte 2.0 naturally aspirated and 2021 Forte GT 1.6 Turbo and yes their is a quicker ratio to 60 and faster overall, but nothing super crazy over the non turbo Forte. Small motor and Turbo is a motor longevity killer {unless driven conservatively and regularly maintained).

It's not the shifter that's buzzing my man. It's probably the fucking engine noise speaker under the wiper shroud. I have a 21 GTM and when I unplugged that thing the buzz went away!

The dealership is getting the new spoiler painted! I am not picky about cosmetics, even my roof spoiler that I put on has adhesive issues, it just takes time out of the day but I get to look at the new Stingers LOL

This was in May 2021 before it got crazy. Plus if you do your research and negociate well it is most definetly possible. I got this from a dealership after getting a buy order from another. Dealers play games, but so can you.

This is the reason why I wish Kia would pull out of the US market, you shouldn’t hate a car because of the badge. But the all the other stuff is because of transit, I’ve seen the way the people transporting their cars treat them and it’s not okay. I was waiting for my GT2 and the transporter took mine off the rig first and dropped it. It took weeks before I got my car. So don’t fault Kia for something they have no control over, and they aren’t cheap anymore.

I agree, I assume most paint issues happen in transit to dealers, however since I looked at two with paint issues I thought it was worth the mention. I don’t judge by brand but when I told people I was getting a Kia, well I’ll say they tried to talk me out of it. They all love it now tho :D
