Make sure you do these two things. Change the transmission fluid at every 40k. Change your oil at 5k. Toyota and any Toyota will see the light of 300k or more. First oil change should be at 500 miles. You want that factory fill out of there as it's out of the factory and engine imperfections are within the oil.

As a dealership owner myself, I applaud you by taking that stand for your customers. We do the same and have helped our customers in bad situations and just do the right thing, even when it hurts our pockets. My son had a 2015 Sonata. He got a notice from Hyundai about the engine problem. Took it to the dealer he bought it from. He also had the extended warranty. They said that the engine was fine so they were not going to complete the Hyundai bulletin. He decided to take the car to a dealership 100 kilometres away. On his way to the dealer the car started to lose power. Stopped on the Side of the road and got a tow truck. The other dealership fixed the problem under warranty, but it took 1 month to get it fixed because there were 18 cars ahead of him. Car runs fine now. Dealership said to dump it within the next year. So he did.

I’m a former Kia Technician, Kia Corporate has fairly strict guidelines with the engine replacement on the 2.4s with unlimited engine replacements. My suggestion is to drain the oil, lock it up, and pour the old oil back in and make sure it’s below the dipstick. Then they’ll be no way of them denying the replacement. Just make sure the updates have been done otherwise the engine warranty isn’t valid. If they replaced the knock sensor then they should’ve done the update as well. Once the new engine is in you’ll be good to go to sell it at least. We would sometimes do this to help people out at the dealer I was at. If the car isn’t throwing a p1326 and there’s no proof of it burning more then a quart of oil every 1000 miles Kia basically tells you to tell the customer to kick rocks. However if you do what I said and run it dry, it’ll definitely throw a 1326. Just make sure you put some miles on it before you lock it up and you’ll be good to go. Especially since you’ve already brought it in once for blowing smoke (burning oil).
@Flintlock1972
@Flintlock1972 Жыл бұрын
This was my recommendation. I just had my 2016 Optima go through this same issue in July. Interesting result of the 1326 code for me. I was coming home from Fort Bragg when it started to act up. Stopped at a Oriely's to ask them to use their scan tool. The 1326 code translated to a Glow Relay Stuck On. Also, a P0303 code, I did not need to look that up. I drove another 7 miles to my house and the car started buck and sputter. I was backing into my driveway when the engine went. Number 3 piston popped through the block. Had it towed out to Goldsboro Kia and two months later had a new engine. Yes, my Optima had to wait for two months to confirm the knock issue and then for the dealer to get an engine. But, that is the way it goes. Rental car was a joke but kia paid for it so I cannot really complain.

I got a 2021 Kia Rio with a 1.6 L engine in it wanted to ask you it seems like the 2.4 L engines have been given a lot of problems the Kia dealership told me long as I keep all my sales receipt and my maintenance. If that problem does arise I should have no problem by the way I do like the little Kia 1.6 L engine with the multi-port fuel injection. When I bought the car I asked the salesman does it have GDI kind of looked at me I told us gas direct injection I try to avoid that if the car had that I would have never bought it but it has multi-port fuel injection but they say they never have really too many problems with their with the real it's still earlier models day they have those problems thank you for your comment there was really good to read take care :-)

I have a 2015 Kia Optima & bought it at carmax with 8000 miles on it. I still had the warranty on it up to 60000. They had a engine recall on 2014 to 16 ( I think 16 ) I took it to the Kia dealer & they gave me a lifetime warranty on the engine. I just hit 100000 miles on it & got my spark plugs changed my regular fluid change & flushes. I Have ZERO PROBLEMS . So by me saying that . There are few lemons on all cars that come out of the factory or owners not taking care the proper way. I bought it on Dec 2016 for $14500. Now if want to sell it back to Kia. They will pay me $10,100. Why because I always take it to the dealer for us regular maintenance & the records shows it. I’m sorry you happen to get a bad one. I have been buying Kias since my first one in 2010, a Kia Soul. Drove it for 220,000 miles in 2years. Never had a problem, never changed any parts, with the exception of disc pads once. I then traded for a 2013 Kia Sorento which I drove for 330,000 miles, same story. Traded that for a 2016 Kia Sedona. Drove this for 150,000 miles. Had one problem had to replace one of the fuel pumps at 105,000 miles. Only problem. I now drive a 2019 Kia Niro which currently has over 105,000 miles, no issues. I have had a problem with one dealer regarding a servicing issue with my Kia Sedona but it was quickly rectified when I brought it to the attention of the service manager. A Kia is pound for pound one of the best motor vehicle, they have all the bells and whistles of much more expensive vehicles in their respective classes. There will always be issues with dealers, dealerships and manufacturers and I for one have Kia and their dealerships in South Florida ( where I am from), to receptive and prompt in dealing with issues regarding problems with their product. BUY KIA. Best thing I ever did.❤❤❤❤❤❤

When I was in the market last month for a new car, I instantly rejected getting a Kia. I know that Korean cars don't hold up at all. I was tempted to buy a Hyundai Santa Fe, but something told me "No. Look around first." I did just that. Searching through the different websites of the dealerships throughout Maine, I landed on a sweet looking 2020 Toyota Camry with VERY LOW miles and I'm talking less than 17,000 miles on the odometer. I looked it over and took it on a 30 mile test drive just to make sure it was the right car. I was looking for something roomy, drives smooth and had plenty of power under the hood. That was something my 2016 Chevy Equinox couldn't do. After thoroughly enjoying myself driving around for nearly an hour, I bought the Camry. It was the best car decision I ever made because I really enjoy it. I'll never buy another Chevy again. If I decide to upgrade in the future, it'll be newer Toyota Camry with a higher trim level.

I just traded in last month for a 2023 Kia Forte GT w the 1.6 Turbo. The cause for the trade in was bc I received a letter regarding the motor and to come into the dearlership for a software upgrade and that if I didn’t, the electrical & mechanical issue would be entirely out of pocket for me without the software upgrade. I decided then it was time to upgrade. I should add, that that Soul was my 3rd Hyundai/Kia vehicle. Never had issues with them, but I did try to take care of them too. I guess I got extremely lucky. In 2021, I purchased a used 2013 KIA Optima Hybrid that had 117k on it. I could not help but wonder how such a lovely Hybrid made its way into a used car lot (that was not fancy looking). I didn't ask that question, and made a cash purchase. I found out that a recall was out for the car about possible engine compartment fires. I took it to the dealership to honor the recall, and thankfully, my engine checked out. Almost a year later, another recall was put out to update the vehicle's software, and install an evap canister. I again, took it in to honor the warranty, and all was well. Two months after that visit, the "Hybrid System Warning: Check Charging System" message flashes across my dash as I'm driving. I had to pull over, and turn off the car. I was able to get it home, and immediately started doing my own trouble shooting homework. I discovered that KIA failed to replace the original Hybrid System fuse plug when they updated the software, so the lower voltage fuse was no longer sufficient. I bought a new higher voltage fuse, and that did the trick! NOW, KIA is extending a 150k warranty for that fuse. Too little, too late!! Aside from the car having a minor oil leak (dealership did mention that the O-rings would need to be replaced soon), I have had no issues. My KIA was made in Korea, so I was quite fortunate to not encounter the problems KIA owners did with cars made in the U.S., or in Mexico. Will I buy a KIA again? Probably not!

I wanted to share with you all our Hyundai story. We purchased a 2015 sonata new from Long Hyundai and have meticulously kept up with maintenance. This post is a long one, but I want to let everyone know how Hyundai operates and how their cars are built. *Deep breath* and go: I want to start by saying I will never own another Hyundai and here are many reasons why. At just 116k miles the engine randomly started misfiring and the check engine light came on while driving down the highway. After limping it home I got the car scanned and it showed a misfire in the 3rd cylinder. After attempting small fixes like spark plugs and plug wires I decided to take it to Long Hyundai, this was my second mistake aside from buying a junk Hyundai in the first place. I stopped taking our car there for oil changes initially because I found an oil filter I had changed the last time still on the car after I paid them for an oil and filter change. With the car at Long, Chris from service stated it had no compression in the 3rd cylinder and it needed head work ($5300), but was pushed to do an engine replacement which was quoted to me at $7-8k, that I would be responsible for. After trying and getting no real diagnosis on the actual problem and a very difficult time trying to communicate with the service department, I picked the car up and coughed up the $200 “diagnostic” fee for nothing. Once I picked up the car I finally got the service report and the diagnosis was “blown head gasket.” I did not have a single symptom of a blown head gasket- no coolant in the oil, no overheating, no smoke out of the exhaust, coolant was clean in the over flow tank with no bubbling. I immediately drove to S&S Auto for a second opinion and they quickly found metal material in my oil and no symptoms of a head gasket issue. Long either completely missed this or did not want to tell me. I personally saw the shavings in the oil when I picked it up from S&S. They advised me about the warranty campaign Hyundai has on the 2.4liter engines and they didn’t charge me anything for the diagnostics. After doing my own research I decided to take it back to a dealership to have them handle the situation. I called the service director-John- at Long Hyundai to explain the situation and told him I was taking the car to a different Hyundai service center to reassess. He did not care that I was taking it to another dealership after Long has misdiagnosed the issue. John just told me, “Well let me know what they find.” (Tried getting a hold of him multiple times since and have never gotten a call back) After moving the car to a third shop, this time Mnt View Hyundai, which is about an hour from my house, I talked to Brian about what was going on and he stated they have been cleaning up a lot of issues from Long. After he had the car for a couple of days he stated he had found the metal shavings in the oil and that the car was misfiring and it should be taken care of under Hyundai’s warranty campaign 953 for excessive bearing wear on the crank. He went back and forth with Hyundai Motors America and I had to give them all my receipts for the oil changes I had done and they stated that my issue was not covered under warranty since my engine wasn’t knocking or locked up yet (basically because it hadn’t left me stranded on the side of the road), but that they would cover 85% of the replaced engine. After fighting for another week and hours on the phone with Hyundai’s warranty departments and Hyundai customer care with no resolve, I had agreed to cover the 15% that Hyundai wouldn’t cover. I was still mad they wouldn’t cover 100% from their own warranty, but it was better knowing Long was going to charge me $7-8k. Brian helped me get a rental car covered from Hyundai since some of the items were on back order. I was very grateful for that since I hadn’t had the car for two weeks at this point. A couple weeks later Brian called me and stated the car should be ready in a day or two and suggested random replacements, like air filters and brakes (all I take care of myself and have receipts on the last time I changed them) I picked up the car and paid my 15% of the cost which ended up being $828. I told him I wanted a test drive, no offense to him or the dealership, but I can’t trust anyone. Upon entering the vehicle I noticed the abs light and traction light on and the blind spot detection wasn’t working. I took it for a drive and went back and talked to Brian about that, stating there was no issue with this when I brought it. He had a tech sheet stating they ran the code when they got the car and it was on. I asked why it was never brought up to me while the car was in his shop for almost 3 weeks. He stated the tech ran some tests and stated it was operating properly and didn’t want to sell me a part I didn’t need. I stated having the abs and traction light on could be dangerous and could malfunction and he stated “it won’t lock up” and “it’s fine”. However, he did offer to fix the issue for free labor and I pay for the part, which was $360. I told him I wasn’t giving Hyundai any more money and drove my car home with all three of those lights on my dash. I am glad the car has a new engine and Brian did help me out with a lot of things, but there are still issues that should have been taken care of that just weren’t. The last month with the car and dealing with all of Hyundai has been beyond frustrating and I now have a car I don’t trust or feel safe in. They have definitely lost me and my family as customers and I hope anyone reading this will think twice before buying anything made by Hyundai.

I actually think the 2011 Soul was a good little car. Mine made it to ~120,000 miles before I had issues with it. That 2011 was why I ended up going with another Soul in 2019 (2020). After the transmission issues and dealing with Kia on something other than routine maintenance, I'll never own another.

It depends on the dealership more. Last year in November 2021 my daughter's 2012 Hyundai Tucson motor detonated in the bottom end. With 92k miles on it. 2nd owner. One dealer was hesitant to look at it and I had it towed to a different Hyundai dealer and they replaced the engine with a new crate engine, no charge. Not under warranty because she was the 2nd owner.

I was going to get a 2023 Kia K5 EX. I went to the dealership and ordered one exactly how I wanted with the premium package, a few accessories, ect. I knew of the issues Kia had with some of their cars but I figured the 1.6 turbo 4 would be alright since nobody had anything bad to say about it. I ordered it in July but my order never updated with a Vin number and scheduled production date. Now, I'm a Toyota guy and originally wanted a Camry XSE V6 but I didn't want to choke on the price. After 4 months of no update on my Kia order, hearing more and more recalls, and how Kia didn't back their cars when they went in for warranty claims, their poor customer support and so much more, I canceled my order and got my money back. I went online and found a 23 Camry XSE V6 exactly how I wanted it and I'm so glad I got it over the Kia. There's a reason Toyotas are more expensive.... you're paying for the quality, reliability and their excellent reputation. It's a way nicer car in my opinion anyway!

Went across the street to Mazda and got a CX-3 with better options and price. The staff was more professional and willing to help.

You will probably hear from Kia. You did the right thing with a public service announcement with the proof in hand. Very obvious the vehicle smokes badly. Surprised the spark plugs don't foul out with that much oil consumption. Also says alot about the Kia dealer you took it to. I feel bad for anyone that purchases from them. The techs at the dealership could be the techs that serviced the vehicle. Change the oil sticker good to go. Got homework to do.

@@markh.6687 The 2010 and older ones are mostly bullet proof, but are hard to find these days with less than 250k miles (in my area at least). Anything newer than that NO WAY. I had a 16 Soul that I sold at 94K because of hearing about all of these issues. I wanted out of it before this happened or it just locked up as a lot of them do without any warning. My fiancee bought an 07 Sportage with 240K on it that had not been maintained AT ALL (cheap paid $900 in 2015) and drove it for 2 yrs, sold it to her daughter and she drove it for another year before it started knocking at 280K. Well worth the investment LOL.

I feel like Chevy Dude is painting with a pretty broad brush on this… I have had numerous Kia/Hyundai vehicles(2006 and 2016), never had an issue with an engine. While not everyone has had the same luck, I think it is safe to say they are not all bad. Many/most are actually very good cars. Hence the reason you see so many of them on the road. All that being said, Chevy Dude, I commend you for your values and for doing something that 99% of dealers would never have done, taking the car back and making it right. I am sure you just made a life long customer.

Your anecdotal evidence means little. The fleet aggregate data does. Fires, oil consumption, and engine failures are not uncommon in the fleet. One of my vehicles is a Kia (21 Seltos) and it’s been a soldier. So what. None of that changes the multiple recalls, fires, and complaints. I really don’t understand how you reason they don’t have a problem because you don’t have one. I bought mind with full knowledge and have others cars as backups. I put a lot of miles on mine.

Great video I agree with you 100 percent I bought a brand new 2013 Kia Sorento. At 14000 miles shifting problems, AC issues, then on the freeway a few times it wouldn't go past 40 mph just bogged down. Took it to the Kia dealer several times in 2014 they said we can't find any issues, and the shifting sounds which started at 14500 miles were normal according to the service advisor. Worst New car ever purchased in my life 2013 Kia Sorrento truly is a disposable car. I lost about 8000 selling it after 2 years of owning that pathetic vehicle. For several years recieved class action lemon law letters 2011 to 2016 Kia Sorrento issues.

I just started driving it earlier this year and already put 25k miles on it. I have had no problems. Great fuel economy car. Just put premium fuel with synthetic oil changed regularly then you will have no problems. This 2013 Kia Optima replaced my 2014 Hyundai Sonata that I put 284k miles on. Hyundai/Kia are good cars for me.

I worked in P&C insurance during Kias early years in the US market and when they shook up the industry with the 100k mile warranty on the engine/transmission. I saw friends and coworkers fight with the Kia technicians, the Kia dealerships, and our insurance clients were calling in tears on a car loan for a car that didn't work, that the dealership abandoned, and that wasn't working, begging if there was anything their insurance could do. After 3 years, you couldn't give me a free Kia, you couldn't even pay me to drive one because they would break down at the worst times for our clients. 20+ years later, I remind myself Kias are still Kias every time I'm behind one of those Tellurides. If you care about your customers, never accept or sell a Kia again.

Sold off our 99k mile 2014 Soul 2.0 recently. It began devouring oil ~80k despite following severe service OCI intervals. Typical short trip city driving was very unkind to the GDI/low tension piston ring combo. Dealer always treated us fairly well and we did receive the extended 150k warranty under recall, but we didn’t want to wait until the engine blew and dealing with an attempt to get the warranty honored. Otherwise the car wasn’t horrible; it had needed a starter, alternator, one coil, the fuel level sending unit and an O2 sensor in that time, and had been reliable…but never felt comfortable with the very high oil consumption rate once it began to accelerate.

Don't know if you read these, but worth a shot. What about Kia's made after 2019? I'm typically a Toyota owner but the best car on the market for the way I use my car is a Kia Niro Hburid. I'm an Uber Driver and so I need roomy back seats and a good cargo compartment, not to mention that it lets me use the back as a camper to sleep in for road trips. On top of that it gets great gas mileage. The closest competitor for Toyota is a Corolla Cross Hybrid, but they only make them in AWD models and that puts a huge hit on the gas mileage. If you maintain a newer Kia, will it last? Or should I just bite the higher costs of operating a Corolla Cross to avoid long term issues?
