One big word of caution about these Venzas, especially if you get the all-wheel drive v6 version. If you buy one used like we did, try to make sure as best you can that the person who had it before you did had the regular maintenance on the rear differential performed. We bought our 2011 Venza used with 78,000 mi on it. 5,000 mi later, the rear differential completely blew out because the previous owner never did it. Almost $6,000 later we'll be getting a new differential this week. Toyotas can and will last forever, but you have to maintain them. The differentials need serviced (drain and fill) every 30,000 miles. And there's no real way a mechanic can know if the differential is almost shot, because there is no module that sends information to the computer like there is with the engine and transmission. It is completely dependent on getting that fluid service done on a regular schedule. Just an FYI.

A good mechanic (old school who can touch, shake, listen and tell what is wrong) will put your venza on jacks and tell you if it is good or bad. The sensor/computer stuff is for newbies who only know how to read a screen and tell you what it says, no knowledge of their own.

I worked p/t for used car dealer so twice a week a group of us drove cars to the auction and drove other cars back to his lot. I sold Cadillac & Oldsmobiles for 17 years. Driven them all for Rolls Royce to Corvettes. I was looking for a low mileage 4 wheel/all wheel drive vehicle. One day driving back in an older Venza I noticed it drove smooth and had a lot of pickup, I fell in love with that model of Toyota. By chance one Sat. AM on line I found a 2 year old Venza (2014) with 10,000 miles on it. Loved the style, it was virtually new car so I bought it. It's is the only Toyota I like to this day and the only foreign car I have ever bought! The rest of the Toyota line up , Highlander, Rav4 (what the hell is that anyway!) are ugly and overpriced! Most people just buy anything regardless of looks. I can park my Venza next to a new Highlander knowing my Venza has better styling and an enormous amount of room inside.

Insights. 1. Get the 2wd not awd, the awd easily get destroyed if maintenance not done and can mess up the transmissions. 2. Get the 4cl not v6. I4 gets Better mpg. The v6 has more problems and is very expensive to fix as any major repair the v6 must be removed from the car.

V6 Limited AWD, upgraded radio. Lots of power. (My previous car was 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Hemi) so to me gas mileage is fantastic. After all this time, the car runs like new, smooth and responsive.

Mine is a 2011 white pearlescent AWD 6 CL. Fit and finish seems to be perfect. Milage average is 21.5 local driving. I only have 55 thousand on it and it looks like new. Only a couple of tiny rock chips on the tip of the hood. My only problem with it is that I don't want to trade it! I have had 3 Mazdas during the time I've had this Venza. Normally, I would be trading but the Venza looks so god damn good! The trade in value doesn't reflect the intrinsic value I see in the car. Knowing what I know about the Venza I would pay way more for a used 2011 than the going rate. I still feel like I'm driving a new car when I'm in it. No one else has one around here. It's such a head turner for a crossover. It's not boxy at all. I don't ever want to give it up and that, paradoxically, is what I don't like.

The best car I ever owned, my daughter got into an accident with my 2009 and car was written off, she was fine and without a scratch ,the beast kept her safe, I was devastated, the only way to relieve my pain was to buy another one!!! The 09 was a v6 base and now a 2016 limited ,had to go all out on the next one! If I could change one thing it would definitely be fuel mileage other than that we LOVE it!!! Only Venza drivers no Venza! My Venza is the only one in the parking lot at work which makes me feel like a luxury car owner and I'm the only one in on the secret of Venza!

You have to take into account that gas mileage is cumulative and includes when the driver is just sitting there with the car on in the drive-thru, waiting for her kid at soccer practice, on the cell phone outside of the department store. I never count cumulative gas mileage. I pretty much go by the gas mileage I get on trips, that's what's more accurate.

We have a 2013 Venza V6 AWD and owned it since new. We consistently average 21 MPG with about 60/40 hwy/city. We get about 23 hwy at about 75 mph. The overall average is pretty much the same as other SUV or V6 sedans. The hwy mileage should be better though. I'd buy another despite the hwy mileage. I love it. Keep in mind it is heavy, and wide with quite a bit of ground clearance. I hate the "smart key". It won't let you lock the car after it has been started if you need to leave the engine running, like in winter. Also, you have to be within about 20 feet to unlock the car. It's pathetic. I can lock my Ram from a few hundred feet if I need to. I have the same panel issue you do on the dash. I have seat memory buttons in my Venza, different model perhaps, ours is a Limited. Also I noticed we have a different front grille and headlights. We have projector lights with LED daytime running lights, which I love. Oh I almost forgot, it's a complete tank in deep snow with winter tires. Unstoppable really, and crazy dependable. We have had it 7 years and nothing's gone wrong with it!

I own a 2009 Venza 4 cyl magnetic gray metallic...I love love love my "mommy wagon!" Yes it is a wagon, not really an SUV. The 4 cly is much better on gas than the V6 AWD. The head, leg room and cargo space are the proof. I have so much room in it. We've gone car camping in it and had lots of room. It's so versatile with the ample backseat space. Also a well kept secret is that the back seats slightly recline! I've owned higher end cars (a Cadillac car and SUV) and I will not trade my Venza for anything else. I plan to drive it to 1 million miles!

Gas mileage wouldn’t come up but I had the fuel changed last night so maybe that’s why. Love this car. I got newer? Michelin tire that takes it to another level and I didn’t notice tires before. I did replace the key battery about 3 months ago. My complaint is the roof rack? I can’t find an alternate for Toyota version/ it sets too close to the sun roofs.

Almost bought one of these twice but dealing with Toyota in Canada was a pain in the ass. I thought the design was good but why build a vehicle with a huge sunroof that makes you choose b/w a sunroof and roof racks? Make the sunroof glass smaller so you could have both. The vehicle actually looks better with the roof racks and more practical. The wheels on the 4 cyl actually look better than the 6 cyl wheels, just my opinion. That gas mileage is not that great. I wonder how the gas mileage is on the 2.7 Liter 4 cyl? Why would Toyota not have replaced that trim piece on the roof, you did buy it new?

I have 340,000km on a 2011 V6 FWD and it has always gotten 9.5 l/100km = 24.7 USMPG average, and just under 9.0 on long highway trips at 10-15k over the limit. Gets a little better in hot weather. Have you ever checked mileage the old-fashioned way to verify that the readout is reasonably accurate? Venza is the most comfortable and by far most reliable car I've ever had, only complaints I have are the massive blind spots and the expensive tires. Also have a 2011 Highlander AWD V6, it actually gets slightly better mileage but it's not nearly as robust and reliable as the Venza has been.

I have a 2012 Venza that has a 4 cylinder engine. It get average 22.7 mpg freeway/town driving with A/C on. There is an annoying problem with the engine that I have had fixed twice in 90,000 miles. Toyota uses a lock up cam gear (variable valve timing) on the timing chain for the VVTi. When you shut the car off and it sits over-night, the next morning when you start it there is a rattling in the engine at start up that sounds like lifters that have leaked down. The first replacement was a recall and Toyota paid to replace the cam gears. It was quiet for about 15,000 miles then started the rattling again. Before my extended warranty went out I took it back and they changed out the exhaust cam and intake cam with the "new fix." It lasted about 10,000 miles then rattles at start up after setting for a long time. I have learned to live with it and not worry about it. The second problem I hate about the car is the postage stamp sized back up camera. I don't ever use it because it is worthless. I know in 2012 the camera was designed to let you know if there was a child or dog that you were about to back over, but if the sun is at a certain angle on the dash or rear camera you are blinded from seeing. Also you don't know how close you are to another car or wall if you are backing up. Other than those two things, the car has been trouble free and when we take friends on trips in it they all comment about how solid it rides and how comfortable it is. I hate Toyota discontinued it also and wish they would make something close to the size and ease of driving.

Idk why they didn't put a pocket of both sides of the console only the passenger side. Tho I do like the cup holder built in the door but really no room for storing books, or cell phones or room to put a purse, no hooks for using on trips if ur glamping in it. No charger plug works without having alternator on and u have to have it fully started to roll windows up or down.

I have the last model year, 2016 XLE Limited. It is a mixed bag. The bad: like yours, really bad interior fit and finish for gaps; crap mpg; small screen vs big screen for back up camera; 20” rims - makes ride harsher, high cost tire replacement; no auto follow cruise control. The good: power; seating space (especially back seat); hauling (fit a 10ft 2x4 with hatch closed); in and out height; stereo in XLE Limited; seat memory; driving visibility; comfort.

I have to replace one of my vehicles in the next 6 months or so. The Venza is on my list. I would go for the 2.7 engine. It has enough power. The Venza is a heavy vehicle so it will not get fantastic gas mileage. The 2.7 would be a lot easier to work on if you had to change spark plugs etc... The Venza's are quite reasonable in price as a used vehicle now. I also figure the 19" tires will give you a better ride vs the 20" tires on the V6. In winter you can put on 17" tires/rims also which cut down on the cost of tires. Overall the Venza is a design I like and there does not seem to be any big issues with the reliability of the Venza. I am a DIY type guy and I have worked on my daughters Corolla. Toyota makes good vehicles that are DIY friendly. Everything is well-engineered and the hardware they use is top-notch.

I have the 2009 4 cylinder Venza and my biggest gripe is the transmission, You can be tooling along at 70 mph and the minute you approach a incline. Slight or steep. The transmission shifts down 2 and sometime 3 gears abruptly. Worse if you have the cruse on. I often wondered if the ever had a transmission software update.

I don't have a car with the push button start and only a key fob but I have been told by those with them that if you keep your key fob too close to the car when at home that it is constantly communicating with the car. For example the way to test that to lock up your car and then put your keys away and not have them on you and if you can pull open the door to get in as if the key was in your pocket or purse then it's too close.

Just running across this video. The desired mpg numbers being quoted sound like the mpg for the 2.7 litre 4-cylinder FWD. AFAIK the V6 mpg was rated 18/25. That is also what Motor Trend indicated in their 2008 review of the 2009 Venza. So if you are getting 18 mixed and 23 hightway, that sounds pretty darn close to the mark for the V6. Also, you could get them with a memory seats. The buttons are on the door, not the seat. Unclear how the 3.5 liter V6 is a "mid-level" V6. At 270hp it was comparable to many other V6s of the day including Ford's 3.5 Litre Duratec. Which is also a great engine by the way. Not sure the turbo-4 you want will have the same overall longevity. 300k miles without major service is not at all uncommon on the Toyota 3.5s.

I commented on your other Venza video about how much I love the 2010 Venza now roughly 75k miles. Recently the drivers mirror side mirror stopped working left/right. I dragged my feet getting around to looking at it, the all of the drivers door switches started working intermittently. Long story short, the failures were broken wires in the door harness right at the edge of the door where the harness enters the boot. It was a little pain in the butt to pull the harness out to replace the bad sections of wiring. Hermetically sealed solder splices and wrapped the whole harness good with self fusing F4 tape. Hopefully it will last forever.

If you leave the key FOB in the car, as many will do when garage parked, the car will continue to communicate with the key FOB and it will run down the battery. Also the roof trim just pushes into a channel I do not believe there is any adhesive used. It may have gotten loose and then debris got underneath it. Pull it up blow it out and push the trim back in. Although it does look as if the trim is slightly stretched from driving with it being loose. Also, newer models do have a memory seat but you are right the mileage is not good even with the 4 cylinder models.

If your fuel mileage is poor there may be an issue with something in the engine. Could be the throttle needs to be reset, or a sensor issue? Why not take the car to a mechanic you know to check it over. If you are getting decent gas mileage on the highway but it drops in city driving that might be a throttle issue. The interior speaker grill is a bit off but you could probably live with it. The exterior trim piece I would ask Toyota to replace it, you did buy the vehicle new right.

I hate the syncing with my iphone in the venza. Its horrible and a pain. I have to resync it every time I get in the car. Even when bought a new iphone I still had issues. Also the fact that you cannot change the bluetooth pairing unless you are stopped is annoying. I know its a safety issue but so is having to push 20 buttons just to get it to sync phone and music with the iphone. 2nd on my hate list is the fact that the reverse camera takes a while to kick in when you put the car in reverse and that if you push any button before then it prevents the camera from coming on. I cannot wait to get a new car from a different manufacturer.

Hi, hope are is well with you and your family dealing with this Pandemic? I have a question for you. It has been a few years now, so you know that Toyota is bringing this back. In fact it’s out now. What car did you end up getting? It would be cool if you were able to get a hold of a new 2021 Venza, and drive it a bit and then do a review on it?? I too have always loved the early years of this car....hearing you talk about it, reminds me of how I have felt about it. It’s just a unique looking car and I too was shocked to know they stopped production in 2015? But, now that I have seen the new one, I’m kind of excited again? I have had my Honda Accord since 2014, and it too doesn’t look it’s age. I also swear by this car, since I have had no problems at all! But now with this new re-introduction, I’m beginning to reconsider getting another Honda or jumping over with the new Venza? Thank you so much for sharing your info. Be well and stay safe for you and your young family. Alex from LA

I have a 2010 Venza in pearl white. The only issue ive had us that the heated seats died, which really sucks, bc we get cold winters here. Apparantly this is is due to a copper wire setup that was replaced in later year venzas, so obviously Toyota figured out these were bad setups. Anyone else have this issue?

I love the appearance of my 2010, V6. It sits on H&R sport springs, lowering the car about an inch. One of the chrome exhaust tips fell off without my knowledge and I replaced the tips with slightly larger ones which I prefer. There are two issues I have: (1) There's a persistent rattling over the globe box. Toyota technicians has looked into this, but at $75/hr, I had them stop after three hours without them finding the cause. (2) The roof light over the rear seat falls and hangs by the wires. Toyota replaced the housing, but it continues to drop after 3-4 days. I make it a practice to push it up once each day it keep it from dropping. The car serves me well and helped emmenisly with taking my mom to her doctor's appointments while accmodating her full size wheelchair in the rear.

I own a 2012 Venda in the same trim level and all the same features as yours. Honestly, outside of the uncharacteristically horrid gas mileage (remember it is an all wheel drive vehicle, which almost automatically gets worse mileage compared to a front wheel drive) most everything is just something to complain about that doesn’t hold water outside of personal opinion. The lack of a memory seat is a little disappointing, but I don’t mind it at all really. The fit and finish bits are a tad ticky-tac . However, my Venza dash has a similar problem around that middle speaker, but not quite as bad as yours. The roof strip, should be super simple to replace even by yourself. The smart key seems to be a defective example. I purchased mine around four years ago now and I’ve replaced the batter once in the one I keep on me and the spare maybe twice, because it just sits there. My biggest knock on this vehicle is the gas mileage. Mine is rated at 18 city and 25 highway. It has never achieved those numbers outside of one or two tanks of gas in roughly four years. I know I have a heavy foot, but Toyota is known for their model line up fuel efficiency. I had a 2007 Camry with the same engine and I averaged better mileage in a lighter front wheel drive vehicle. I hope the new 2021 Venza will be better. I’m not terribly keen on the new styling.

Actually i am glad that Toyota doesn’t make this car any more. that makes my car distinctive. It is also sad that they don’t make this any more. I guess he is right about venza wasn’t selling as well as their other line up, such as Highlander, rav4, camry and corolla. That is because those name were out for sometime and people already have those names stuck in their heads. Not many people out there actually look into new stuff i found. This is a very well priced and comfortable crossover. drive like a sedan and can take you to more places then a sedan. Roomy and luxury with a toyota price tag. Up here in Vancouver BC there are so much more people drive the Venza then in the states. I agree about the mileage, it's TERRIBLE and not at all as advertised. I don't care if you have a backwind and a downhill or a tribe of pygmies pushing it, it's terrible. Advertised at 7.9hwy/9.7city but this averages 12.7/100km mixed, 10.9 hwy ( best ) . Yes, no memory seats, my wife is way shorter, constantly slamming my knees into my chest getting in. We also had a lot of problems with MICE. Toyotas and many others are using soy based wire insulators etc and they love to eat that stuff and are attracted to it. The opening into the cabin is big enough for 10 mice to slide into sideways at the same time !! look under the hood at the opening, no mesh, nothing. WELL KNOWN FLAW that was a huge PIA to fix. Another complaint is horrendous ROAD NOISE. All those things aside, LOVE THE CAR, built like a tank, will push snow like a plow truck, it's simply unstoppable and more reliable than anything we've ever owned. 10 yrs in and nearly 300,000 km and no mechanical problems at all. Glad to see they are reviving it for 2020/2021 ( from the rumours ) and especially if it's HYBRID as I hear it will be.

The car just needs to be motion given it is a big frame, so it favors better on the highway where it can just go as opposed to in town where it has to get back in motion over and over again haha.
