My granddaughter has T1D. Thank you so much for the informative videos. People need to understand she didn’t eat too much sugar and “got” diabetes. She has an autoimmune disease! Also our family can tell when she’s high. She gets super crabby. And when she’s low it can be scary! Addy is adorable and you are such a good mom. Keep sharing your story. Hope you get to a million!

How did y’all find out she had T1D. I was wondering because my son pee a lot an always thirsty. an I don’t know if that even means anything but I just want to know if I should be worried about it

Tyoe 3 is also autoimmune and there are many more than two types of diabetes.

So glad you mentioned the difference between type 1 and type 2. My husband has been a diabetic type1 for 60 years. It is the bane of his life that people tell him they have the same disease when they have been diagnosed with type 2. Not the same…….different problems completely. A provider once told him to never feel guilty about your diabetes. It’s not your fault, there’ll be good days and bad days and that’s life. Hope that helps you too, Mom. You’re doing an amazing job.

I'm a newly diagnosed type 1 as an adult (covid suspected being the cause). Been healthy all of my life and now have to change everything. The positive thing, diet is very healthy. You're very knowledgeable and so right about everything you've mentioned. It's bloody difficult for sure. I'm very impressed you managed to have done all of that while your daughter remained asleep. That was awesome!

You’re 100% right! On all 5 points! My son was diagnosed at 21 and had to learn how to count carbs to manage his bs. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions for both he and I, but I will be by his side through it all. 🥰🥰

I wanted to tell you that your so right about having a positive attitude it's very important. My husband has been a type 1 diabetic for over 50 years now, and the doctors told his parents that he may not have a long life, but he refused to believe that and has lived a full, happy life. We've been married for 46 years now and have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. With all the wonderful tools available now that help so much with managing the disease. Bless you for sharing your story and bless your sweet baby girl.

Keep advocating! My granddaughter has T1D. My son and his exwife already had a difficult marriage. I believe my granddaughter’s diagnosis is the thing that ended their marriage.

Okay... I probably should'nt have but when you said it can actually be harder on the parent then the child... I bursted into tears... I guess its something I needed to hear... We basically BECOME our childrens pancreas. My sons been diagnosed for 3 years and I am still constantly learning new things. And YES!! THE LOW SUGARS! That was actually the first thing I was told. The doctor helping us also grew up with diabetes and made it a point to tell me that. "Highs can be scary but LOWS are worse. We'd rather be running a little high but never running low."

Yesterday we had to rush our 4 year old to the hospital to find out that she’s T1D. It’s currently a tough pill to swallow, especially since seeing her as sick as she was is still very fresh in my mind. Luckily, my sister has been following you for a while and she sent me this video. I’m looking forward to understanding more and learning how to create a new normal for our family. Thanks so much for being a solid resource ❤

@heatherferguson Reach out to your husband's Doctor. Many offices have patient advocates, your insurance company may have a patient advocate program. Also never forget about the American Diabetes Foundation. Although this Mom has a "child" who has diabetes, she is not qualified to help you or your husband on his health journey. Please seek help from the professionals treating your husband. ❤

@@carolynturk-hu7je Yes the best advice! also if you have issues with the pod they have technical support and will send you a new one if something goes wrong with it, ex it falls off prematurely, you can call or go online, my experiences would be to go online as with calls you can be on hold for awhile , Wishing the best for you and your husband!

If you got the Omnipod, then a diabetes educator with Omnipod will contact you and teach you everything about the pump. They will also be there for you should any questions arise or need any help at all at anytime. Also reach out to your diabetic management Dr and ask them to put you in contact with a diabetic educator who will teach you about diabetes management. They will always be available to you when needed.

Hi Addys mom. It can be hard on you as a parent of such a baby girl. But I think you are doing an amazing job with Addy and her diabetes. I'm a diabetic person also. And I can agree with you that sometimes, besides sacry, it seems all too much to handle. I'm 42yo and ice been a t1 diabetic since I was 18yo. It was all new at the beginning but as the years went by and life was changing, it got bit more challenging than I wanted it to be. And I git angry as hell with it. It was hard. Too hard. But I got through. I want you to know that some days are harder than you think you can handle. It's OK to be mad and to be angry. Just never get angry with Addy. Find someone to help you girls. Taking a break it's necessary sometimes. Never punish yourself for that. Just make sure Addy is taking good care of by the other person you chose. Dad, aunt, uncle, cousin,... Be calm and continue to take good care of you both. Pay attention to Addys kidneys, eyes and heart. Fast heart races are also bad for her. And I know she's still a child, but just chech on those organs once in a while. 💙 💚 Stay safe and be happy. She will be happy with you by hear side. 💙 💚

Per the CDC March 11, 2022. Type 1 diabetes was once called insulin-dependant or juvenile diabetes. It usually developes in children, teens, and young adults, but it can happen at any age. Type 1 diabetes is less common than type 2 - about 5-10% of people with diabetes have type 1.

Does the omnipoid really help with keeping blood sugar in range more then using insulin pens?
@chelseasylvester24557 ай бұрын
As another t1d momma with a baby using omnipod, yes 100% yes. The omnipod can turn on and off basal insulin which really helps with lows and highs.
@Dana-bb1fz5 ай бұрын
Absolutely. I have been on an insulin pump for over 15 yrs and it has helped a 1000% in my management. But an insulin pump alone will not help, it has to be in conjunction with the CGM.
@wolffriendinus5 ай бұрын
I'm going to say most likely as I know of a professional athlete that uses one. Jordan Morris, Seattle Sounders #13, did an interview about it last year. He also has a foundation that helps kids with T1D, the Jordan Morris Foundation.
@melissahorn60915 ай бұрын
Do you know that CGMs lag up to 15 minutes because they measure interstitial fluid, not blood. It’s important to check blood glucose with a glucometer if blood sugar is high or low before dosing insulin, or eating simple carbs. The glucometer is far more accurate than a CGM. If you didn’t already know that, it’s important knowledge to have.
