I wish I'd found this a year ago! I'm rebuilding a 65 Fastback, and your #1 lesson learned really hit home. I also took mine to a shop because of how daunting the quarter panel replacement is. After seeing how much work is needed for every piece of new sheet metal, I'm glad I took it to a pro! Thanks for sharing your journey.

Totally agree with PPE. I wear close fitting goggles when ever I grind. Safety glasses with side shields just aren’t enough. I too have first hand experience with metal in my eye.

I bought full face covering mask from Eastwood. It has filters for breathing as well. Before I tried several googles/safety glasses with covered sides etc. Its not enough. Its always annoying to deal with eye problems after you come from garage because old rust you just grinded is in your eyes even if you had protection. Mask is the best so far

Great info. I knew most of the things going into mine but the one that I did not was buying all of the specialized tools. Holy crap. Yes, the welder and drill bits were expected but I had to buy so many wire wheels, a special Ponzi bit to get my door strikers off, I went through 3 Dremels. This and that. I think I spent more on tools than I paid for the car. Lol. Not really but it seems that way. The bright side is that if I ever do another car I will already have the tools I need.

Nice video. I'm in the process of restoring my '70 fastback I bought back in June. Currently sitting in my driveway due to it stalling on me last weekend. The most expensive job I've had done so far are the floor pans.

Thank you! Floor pans are a great start and definitely not easy! Do you have a lot more work to do on it?

@@NickDowner yeah and I'm currently recording the process of it all on my channel. Took it for a drive last Sunday and it stalled so I'm gonna test the alternator and see if it needs to be replaced. Needs ball joints and tie rods. Needs a new exhaust, rust repair of the body and new paint.
