This may sound strange, but thanks! As a new Jeep owner of an 83 CJ5 I now know where my reverse light switch is located😀 I'm learning as I go but I know it will never be a Rock Crawler with its AMC 20, split axle so I'm happy getting through mud and snow. Thanks for your video!

Found your Jeep videos and subscribed. I have a 1979 CJ5 AND a '79 CJ7, and no doubt I'll be doing pretty much everything you are. Great job!

That was amazing! Dad and I rebuilt the transfer case on the jeep when I was in 8th grade. I was helping but now I wish I would have paid way more attention then!

Nick, Great Video, But the music wasn't. I wanted to hear your comments through the rebuild. but the music was a little too much for me. Thanks for sharing, I have the same trans. and for some reason the forks wont move. They did a few days ago. and the trans is on the bench with the top cover off..

How far did you install the mainshft bearings ? Just past the snap ring grooves on the shaft? They dont look like they bottom out on anything.

My transmissions was sitting in water for who knows how long, but I bought it with it like that. Now that I have the transmission apart, I've noticed that 1st gear has some surface rust and light pitting. Should it be replaced? The forums seem torn, like everything else hahah

approximately how long are the bearings heated to get the temperature?---- 2 mins? 3mins? thanks

Great !! Now with this help Is possible to rebuild a T176 myself.😁 Where can I but the rebuild kit ?, ebay? thanks!!! from Mexico

Just a quick suggestion, seeing how you found some bad teeth in your transmission, might want to open up the transfer case and check it too, I can't remember if it is a chain drive or gear to gear, and it wouldn't hurt to reseal it, good job and good content 👍

That's a great idea for sure! I also ordered a full seal kit for it since it was leaking everywhere haha thanks for watching Leonard! I appreciate it

Great video. Getting ready to rebuild a T176 and Dana 300 myself. Where did you get the rebuild kit from?
@NickDowner2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Harold! Good luck on your rebuild. It really wasn't too bad... I had fun learning everything as I went. Just don't forget to buy a big bearing puller. I bought a t176 rebuild kit on eBay product #BK123WS and the reverse idler gear is from all state gear

@@NickDowner Thanks for the info. Mine is a 1979. Have the rolling chassis, a 304 V-8, t176 and a Dana 300. Going to refinish/rebuild the entire frame and drivetrain. Then start on locating a good donor tub or a replacement.

@@millstonejeepworx that's awesome! Sounds like a fun build! Is the 304 in good shape?

@Nick Downer It appears to be. Was told it ran good. I'm going to pull the oil pan and heads to give it a good look over. If all looks good, I will just have the heads done, new oil pick and screen, and seal it up.

Looking great. Was the transfer case working good prior to taking it out of the jeep? Or do you plan on rebuilding the transfer case as well?
@NickDowner2 жыл бұрын
The previous owner said it shifted and worked great so I planned on just opening it up, checking out the gears, and re-sealing it all up (the seals were leaky) but after cleaning it up while shooting the next video I found a bunch of damage on the case eeeek. Not sure what my plan is yet with that bad boy

@@NickDowner dam that sucks. My transfer case on my 97 Wrangler blew up on me. I ended up getting a tranzilla transfer case replacement and just replaced the hole transfer case.

@@NickDowner I like the transfer case it's been working great it has a little over 30,000 miles on it now. I paid around $1300 for it.

@@NickDowner the Dana 300 is strictly a gear-to-gear driven transfer case. If water hasn’t intruded the case and damaged any gears, they’re usually pretty robust TCs. Wondering what kinda damage you found on the case. They’re also pretty thick-walled cast iron, so I’d be surprised if there was something detrimental wrong with it. FYI - you can usually get a decent used one for $250-$350
