Great tips and advice!!! The worst feeling is buying all the things and then they just sit around unused. I do it with planner stuff, scrapbook stuff and crafting stuff. I'm a collector, unfortunately. I have all these big dreams of using all these products, but the reality is that I don't have the time or I get overwhelmed with too many options. But my goal for 2020 is to stop collecting and start using all the things.

I remember I purchased a happy planner a few years ago. The planner was pretty but too bulky for me to carry. I started purchasing my personal planners from Ross or either Walmart and found planners that were easy for me to carry in my tote bag. I purchase my work planners from Dollar Tree. One thing I learned I have to have thin planners that can fit can fit easily in my tote bag.

I think you hit the nail on the head with these 5. I remember going through these within the 1st year of my planning. (I've been planning for 2 years now.) I'm just now getting to the point where I don't feel like I need everything that comes out, and I think the reason is because I take time to ask myself, "Am I REALLY going to use this?" Most of the time, the answer is "no". And I'm able to talk myself out of buying something because, just as you said, after a while, you learn how you like to plan, and what you will use and won't use. Thanks for sharing these with us. And for the newbies, she's right, take your time and ease yourself into it. You are going to want to learn how you like to plan, as well as if you will really use all of the supplies. Good luck to everyone! And Happy 2020 planning! 😊

I've been grateful for the planning community as I am new to planning. I watched videos like this early on and they really helped me consider a number of things that helped me narrow it all down. My style is far from perfected still but videos like this helped me make smarter choices when I went shopping for the first time.
@lulugregory32464 жыл бұрын
You are so completely right. I remember getting so overwhelmed with all the choices (not to mention the crazy amount of money it would have cost that I just didn’t have!) So after watching a TON of KZbin videos I sat down with a pen and paper and tried to work out what I actually wanted from a planner. I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so I made my own pages in excel and made them pretty and colourful so that I didn’t need to buy a load of stickers or colourful pens... and put them in a really old Filofax binder that I had kicking around from years ago.. also meant that if something wasn’t quite working for me for whatever reason, I could change it. Worked for me 😊

I am with you! I started planning a long time ago and I stopped for years and came back to it. Looking at where I now, I wish I had kelty planners from my first go round to see the growth. This go round has been a little over a year now, and I made a conscious decision to keep all the planners I used.. whether I had to change what I used Midway, or didn't jam with a certain kind of planner anymore and tried something else, I kept them. And from time to time I pull all of them out just to see where I've grown from.

Thank you so much. FOMO is so real and can be dangerous and very overwhelming. Each step you spoke about can be so helpful to a beginner. When you think about all the new planner releases you really have to say to yourself “do I really need a new planner that just has new dividers with the same layouts or should I just recreate my own?” Planning can be good or bad and I say bad because your intentions are good but you have to be able to prioritize your life to plan. I appreciate everyone who can teach me something but I found myself running out to purchase everything that person might have knowing I did not need it. Now I’m like the groups on Facebook trying to sell it all the unnecessary purchases I made. It’s really a beautiful thing and YOU said it best!!!! Find your own style, stick with what you know, don’t make hasty purchases, stop wasting money and use what you got. There is one thing I disagree with and that is about using what you have; right now I’m gonna contradict myself. I have a hard time with the Etsy shops Instagram post of beautiful handmade items. I love everyone’s Etsy shops and the instagram posts of all the beautiful stickers. “If was a millionaire I would buy from each shop to support them and try to use at least one handmade sticker”. Lol 😂 🥰😂😂 Again, you are right “it is still about using what you have”. I have two huge storage bins of supples because I craft a lot with my 8 grandkids. As they get older they change and now I stuck selling or donating what I don’t use. So the moral of my response to you is THANK YOU and I’m so GRATEFUL you made this video. May you be blessed in this holiday season and continue to help us all.

I’ve been a decorative planner going on five years now. I never realized it was thing until I saw a Belinda Selene video and then I fell down the rabbit hole. Instead of buying all the stickers, I got a silhouette and make them myself. I don’t even think I save much money doing it with buying digital paper, premium sticker paper, a laser printer, foils, etc, etc. But that’s part of the fun for me, creating. That’s why planning is so much fun, it gives everyone the opportunity for creativity. It’s creative to arrange stickers, practice new writing techniques, make paper clips and charms, to taking pictures of a planner spread. Every avenue of planning has an aspect of creativity and individuality. That’s why I love it.

I saw someone say that a good way to defeat FOMO is to wait for a month and see if you still want it. And if you do, then buy it! Also, think about why you want it. Because you'll use it? Because you are running out? Or because someone else has it and you want the followers/posts/pics they have? I waited to buy the Planner Babe line and I'm so glad I did! I realize I only want one or two things and not the whole line like I thought I wanted!

I cleaned out the excess stickers & washi and handed it off to my grandkids, instead adopting more minimal attitude for myself while still making sure my planners (I have 2 Filofax) are beautiful and functional. For 2020 I am putting myself on a NO SPEND for planner supplies and planners. I have my 2020 line up set and I’m not buying anything else. My only exception is the Be Happy boxes. I'm not sure how I came across this video because I'm not as into planning as I once was, but your voice is so calming. I feel like, in our capitalist society, ANY hobby can be expensive if you let it. I cringe when I think back to the amount of money I spent on beads and swarovski crystals when I was into bead weaving (luckily I was able to de-stash a lot of it), and then the knitting that I'm into now (all the indie-dyed yarns, festivals, and retreats). Because I'm more of a functional planner than a "pretty" planner, I never got to the point where I felt I had spent a lot of money on the hobby as I don't do stickers, washi tape, stamps, markers, etc. I think, when I found the A6 hobonichi and realized how well it worked for me (I was able to stay within one book for the entire year) I found my planner peace and the investment was done.

I think I’m stuck in the, “in order to bullet journal or plan, I have to be this fantastic hand letter-er or drawer” moment because the different KZbinrs I watch are sooo creative. I had my first set of tombow pens for like two years before I picked them up again because I didn’t realize hand lettering was something I had to practice often in order to get it. 🤦🏾♀️ lol. Then I saw some people who don’t even use hand lettering for their planners or journals...found them after I got the hang of hand lettering lol. Still working on my doodles. This was very insightful though because I won’t lie, I have a list on amazon titled stationery and all sorts of calligraphy pens, stickers, etc are in there.

I am an old planner Babe now. I am glad that when I started, there were not a million options, but I have overdone it over the years and bought waaaaay too much. So I am really, really, really trying to use what I have. The one thing that I am proud about is that last year, I bought a bunch of 2019 Happy Planners, and Recollection planners for 90% off. I have changed dates in old planners with date stickers for years. But, bottom line, I have enough stickers, and beautiful paper for quite a while. This is THE video I needed. Thank you so much for this. I’ve been planning for over a year in a simple notebook and this year I decided to buy a planner for 2020. So I started doing research and I could not believe how many planner options are out there. I was definitely overwhelmed and #FOMO is real. Your tips have been super helpful. Thank you so so much, I really enjoyed watching this video.

1) Yup, so many varieties of planners is overwhelming. 2) Boy, I've spent a lot of money on this. 3) Been there...😑 4) Totally agree. 👍 5) Know about it, but feel like I'm more like a referencer or salesperson in this. Great video, Marquita! 😊

Hi Quita. Thank you for the IWIK... video. You are so right about everything. I want everything! It’s expensive! Planner Community is welcoming. I have some FOMO. Taking it slow. Enjoy your vids!

Thank you so very much for sharing these points. I started maybe 2? Years ago. Initially, it was expensive. I wanted and felt like I needed so many things. I did it for about 3 months (really enjoyed experimenting with style and planners) however life took over. I was overwhelmed one thing after the other. Planning was the last thing I thought of. However, I’ve been working on my life for several months now (6 or more?). I’m finally seeing some stability. So I want to get back into my planning again. This is truly enjoyable to me. I have a Big Happy Planner which I will use as a memory keeper. I have a classic HP for health and wellness. I have my Webster’s travelers notebook that I use as my wallet, checkbook, and appointment calendar. Then I have 2 of the half sheet Fauxbonichi HP books that I use for my meetings. I use one strictly for notes and scriptures during my meetings that I want to meditate on. Then I use the other one to decorate and note all I get from the meetings and the notes that I took. So far I’ve started my faith Fauxbonichi the past few months but starting 2020 I’m going to do the others. I’m very excited about it. It’s a great hobby along with my crocheting and reading that I would also like to start doing again. I ordered stickers from your shop that I love a while back ago. I just took a look again and saw so many new things. I can hardly wait to start ordering some of your beautiful covers and stickers! 😊👍

FOMO led me to abandoning a particular brand because of the never-ending product release. I did find something that worked well for me and now I use a Etsy shop for functional stickers and a washi tape business.

FOMO is real in a lot of different hobbies. Just watch a Rae Dunn Hunting video - some people actually FEAR not getting something. As a card maker \scrapbooker I had to have every paper pad, sticker, pen, die cuts etc that everyone else had. I saw it hauled on YT - I had to have it. I swore off buying a new paper pad until I use at least a portion of the 5' pile I have accumulated. It's been a year and a half and I don't feel bad at all. So I came into the Planner World already knowing I don't have to have what everyone I watch has. However, I do feel overwhelmed from time to time. The possibilities are like literally endless. I am glad to see that those are normal feelings - like I am not alone - as you said we have a whole community to lean on. TFS. I hope I don't lose the lovely ladies I watch like you and many others because of the COPPA - FTC stuff. I wrote a very respectful email hoping that they will see they don't want to destroy creators or sadden those of us who would lose them. Fingers crossed.

Hey, thank you so much for this! I am very new to the community and man it IS overwhelming! All of the points you addressed were helpful. I am struggling with FOMO as a newbie. It is a real thing for sure!! LOL! I love your channel, you're a calm, soothing person to listen to and I love your ideas! You're an inspiration to me, and I'm learning all I can to possibly start a channel for some extra income. Any information about that is very much appreciated too. Thanks again!

Thanks for this video. Started planning this year, and wish I had seen a video like this in the beginning. You were one of the first planner babes I started following.

Thanks for all the information. I wish I knew this a year ago. I'm slowing my roll. I have way to much planner stuff and sticker books. In 2020 I plan to use what I have.

My planner peace/happy place is having a “sticker planner” that I use once a week and a soft bound planner that I use for daily to-do lists. I do want to try an A5 it’s been on my list for a while.

Watching your video that went over the different styles made it click why most planners did not work for me. I am a classic dashboard. Most of the cheap planners are not set that way and I just could not stay with it. I love the happy planner over others. But I figured this out watching you! Thank you!
