First of all, please allow me to say how sorry I am about your husband. I know how difficult it is to watch someone you love deteriorate. And please allow me to say that caregiver/compassion fatigue is a real concept! So to hell with those who fail to see how difficult this is for you on the daily basis. I honestly think that Jessica having a 'carer' is what helps eliminate compassion fatigue in their marriage. I hope where you live can help fund homecare or that you can afford the services yourself, because it really makes a difference! Even if it's just 3 days a week or an hour everyday. Of course we care for the ones we love and it's truly a privilege to be there for them when they need us most, but it's okay to ask for help along the way. All the best to you and your hubby, you lovely lady.
@JasperisCasper5 жыл бұрын
This is a good one. I'm in my mid 20s and my parents help care for me but it's caused huge strains in our family. My grandparents think I'm just being lazy (because someone in their mid 20s is totally gonna fake having less independence). My parents understand how bad things are because they see it constantly, but it's mentally and physically exhausting for them and it makes me feel guilty that we can't afford a carer. But if I try to do more than in already doing on my own, it puts me at risk of falls/other injuries. Don't ever feel ashamed about needing to hire a carer to help you. It is hard enough to take care of yourself mentally and physically when a loved one is going through a health crisis. It's damn near impossible to take care of them, too.
@bettygg63185 жыл бұрын
Great idea! My husband is my carer and it can be difficult. I feel like he does everything for me, he can't work and he deserves a life of his own from time to time. I also feel like I don't really "deserve" a employed carer so it would be a really helpful video.

The "can you hear your own thoughts?" thing... The "internal monologue" has been discussed a lot recently in my social media circles. It seems that some people can 'hear' words in their mind, others don't, they have to speak aloud to hear how something sounds. This is similar to the "mind's eye" where some people can actually visualise things. I cannot, I just kinda know how things would look but I can't "see" it in my mind.
@idunno9664 жыл бұрын

Omg this makes my head ache.
@darkacadpresenceinblood4 жыл бұрын
Actually I think when peopl are talking about their "inner voice" that's never your original thought. That's just you subconsciously making the thought into a sentence, which everyone does to some level, but also everyone has thoughts that don't become sentences. I also talk to myself in my head, a LOT, but that's not all of the thoughts just some that become sentences. ... Did this whole thing make sense or am I horrible at explaining?
@nerdywolverine86404 жыл бұрын
@@darkacadpresenceinblood that makes sense, for some that translation is automatic and part of expressing yourself to yourself, like for me, since I'm a very precise and word-oriented person. Also because of the way my brain stores things the word is so heavily tied to the concept cluster that they're essentially one and the same and it's easier to call up the umbrella term rather than the full collection of memories, concepts, and ideas linked to it, so while it might not technically be the original "root" thought it might as well be. Then other people just never bother to translate their thoughts because why would they, it's extra work (for them). I imagine people like my sister are just better at holding a bunch of info into one unified concept or feeling or image than I am. What you're explaining sounds like a middle ground between the two "extremes" or modes of internal expression--most people I know lie heavily on one end or the other.

I think many people completely agree that disposable straws should be widely available to those who need them. They just don't want straws to be virtually thrown at anyone. I think the question about "can you hear your own thoughts" assumes you've been deaf from birth, and don't have a practical concept or any experience hearing. A bit like a question for people who have been blind since birth may or may not be able to imagine what the color green looks like. When you have thoughts, do you "hear" them or "see" them or some other model of communicating with yourself in your head. That's what I think that question is asking.
@jasper52225 жыл бұрын
That's how I read it as well. A bit like when people ask "when you dream, can you hear?" I have a hearing impairment and if I'm actively thinking about something (e.g. saying internally to myself "I need to go shopping"), I can hear because I know what my own voice sounds like as it wasn't a from-birth thing and I'm not "profoundly deaf", but if my mind just wanders, I tend not to, especially if I'm daydreaming or if my thought/dream is not me (e.g. a person I've only recently met)

I can actually offer some insight into hearing your thoughts. The first bit is few people actually can hear their thoughts, which means most people don't have a voice in their head rambling over the information being given to them. Secondly, being able to hear your thoughts is a common sign of Neurodivergence. Which to give a brief explanation as to what that means, it refers to people who's brains are structured differently. This is commonly associated with autism but can apply to other mental conditions as well. So in short if you can hear your thoughts you are likely Neurodivergent.

Sometimes I also use subtitles for content with unfamiliar, hard-to-understand accents and for content with a lot of whispering/mumbling/background noise despite not being deaf/hoh, or when I want to watch something but keep getting distracted, and I try to keep my mind focused by both listening AND reading the same thing. I think the “can you hear your own thoughts” question is really asking “do you think in words or ideas/images.” To an extent, I think everyone is able to do some amount of both, but I don’t think being deaf is the defining feature here. Like, hearing people can think in ideas/pictures as well. Personally, though, I typically think in words. So, yeah, you could say that I can ‘hear’ my own thoughts.

@@bookl0ver That's not really true. Anything plastic is bad for the environment. There is no good method of disposal, only bad ones and worse ones. Even recycling is hugely energy intensive. But for the rest of us they should really not be used.
@bookl0ver5 жыл бұрын
@@junbh2 Yeah, good point. I think maybe the broader point should probably be: we need alternatives to plastic for more or less everything, rather than eradicating a useful tool for many people for the sake of reducing a miniscule amount of plastic, and ignoring the much larger issues. @Jesswithlessstress5 жыл бұрын
Great questions...to answer one. I believe she has mentioned in one of her videos that she has a somewhat regular interpreter that she will have help her. When she is not available Jessica will hire others as far in advance as possible. Even so, she has had many occasions where one is not available.
@lmaoroflcopter5 жыл бұрын
You also generally need to book multiple interpreters. Asking a single interpreter to sign for an 8 hour day would be extreme. They often have to work in a team, allowing their colleagues to rest as interpreting and signing places them under an extreme mental load.

Hiya! Sign language interpreters are very expensive indeed, and they book up well in advance so you have to plan it very well!
