A group I met through our local D&D community has asked me if I would GM a campaign of STA for them (and they are all new to the game as well). I have always enjoyed Star Trek, and over the last year I've become a little more familiar with the 2d20 system from Mophidius through an Achtung Cthulu real-play podcast. But this game is completely alien to me (no pun intended). This video provides some good tips that I can use as GM and that I can help my players use as we all get more familiar and more comfortable with the system. Thanks for posting it!

Which Achtung! Cthulhu podcast were you listening to? I’ve listened to a few and am looking for more; hopefully it is one new to me.

Thanks. I am an old gamer, started playing D&D in 1979, our club is still active though we have lost a dear friend a few years back. I am launching my own Star trek Adventures game this coming Saturday, I have been acquiring books, dice, ships and miniatures, reading and making plans for over a year now. Your videos are helpful and I appreciate that. This new Star Trek Adventures game is very in-depth and I believe the game mechanic is brilliant, I look forward to seeing my guys in action. Thanks again.

Bravo on getting rid of social media, its a black hole, about to get a game going soon going to ask the players if they want to play UFP, KDF, or RRS in the year 2408

Hi CGA, I've been running a biweekly game for some friends online and while we are always looking for more players, these videos have been a great help getting the mechanics and the kind of culture of the game down. Thanks for making them.

I'm getting ready to GM my first game of STA and I mean literally my first game. I have always had a love of Star Trek and so I've talked my D&D group to give it a shot for our next, upcoming campaign. I've found d your videos very helpful. There's not a ton of videos that teach the game and really break it down lie you do, so I definitely appreciate your teaching style and I look forward to any STA content you do in the future.

If you're still looking for a ST:A game I'm looking to get one started. Have a good size group interested in it. Working on learning the system and going to to do a few tests, might try to do a let's play thing or record it. Not sure yet. But wanted to thank you for the videos and extended the offer

Really helpful video, some very useful tips and information. Started my first game 2 weeks ago, playing an Edosian Ensign(command role), absolutely loving the gameplay.

I am in an ongoing Game and your videos are absolutely essential!! Especially to bring the other players who are not disposed to pour over the rules up to speed. Dual 20 is a complex system but my stars is it the best adaptation of a TV series setting I have ever encountered.

My STA group and I have been working on a idea about doing The Four Years War against the Klingons more or less based on the old FASA Trek The Four Years War. We have been talking about the idea of a reintroduction of MACOs. I know MACOs were disband after the events Enterprise and following the foundation of the United Federation of Planets. Our idea was desperate times call for desperate measures and the Federation is at war. The Federation would draft MACOs from the best security and Federation Marines personnel. We also decided that our team of MACOs would be used as supporting characters. It seems like it could be done, looking over all the rules and etc from the STA books. Looks like we would use a combination of rules from the Core rulebook and Operations Division supplement.
@The_CGA4 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely, this is the way to do it. There are some excellent role powers in Operations Division that fit with this. There are some indications in canon that something like the MACOS persists, at least in spirit through the monster maroon era. The MPs in helmets in Search for Spock and Voyage home. Kirk addressing formations of Redshirts on TOS.

I'm thinking of starting a star trek adventures game with my local group. Before The End Times we were playing Star Wars, but the game was constantly filled with references to star trek, and a very trek minded way of doing things so I thought "Hey, maybe we should just play star trek?" I'm lucky in that I have a group that is pretty familiar with the show, and seems to really like it as well. We tried online gaming, and it didn't really go well, so I'm hoping the end of the world ends soon so we can get back to it.

I'm a couple months in to GMing a campaign and things have been going pretty great so far! I've really been enjoying the freedom and creativity the mechanics have offered me and my players in solving problems in very unorthodox by still very Trek ways. Although I often still find myself not 100% sure at all times what Attribute applies to every Task I might roll.
@The_CGA3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to attributes a great deal can be answered in “how does the character think they Are getting it done?” Do *they* think they are being precise, audacious, tough? Is their force of personality winning the room or do they thread the needle through the webs of social interaction to see the critical point? It is often a multiple choice question, where only two answers remain possible. But one is the “best fit.” It can be as easy as asking the question of the player in these situations.

I would love to watch a play session with people who really knew how to play or maybe edit out the table talk to show just the 'meat and potatoes' for a newb.
@The_CGA3 жыл бұрын
This is *relatively* close to what you’re looking for, though we were all still learning back then, and there is much more system talk than I have come to prefer. An agile path through the task process is something I would like to demonstrate in a new LP. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5TLf2Oph56oY6s

I’ll play in a campaign for STA. I have a lot of rpg experience (d&d started in the early 80s for me, Classic Traveller predated that for me). My time can be limited though late nights are more achievable (CST). I really am interested in seeing play through either Roll29 or Astral Platform, but as hoc works too.

I enjoy watching your Star Trek Adventures videos. It apurred me to get a game of my own going. I do one night a month with a couple of fellows. I wish you the best at getting some players, but I don't think I will join in because I don't want conflicting story thoughts affecting my game. That being said, I really hope you are able to make more Star Trek Adventures videos, as it really is a very good system!

It is great to hear that the game is spreading and prior words have brought dice to the table. In the past my appeals to the table have been at a distance from the CGA brand and merely in some of my online cape personalities on social media; one shan’t feel guilty for enjoying one’s own table and company: that’s the Idea of all these videos! Hope to hear more about your game as it progresses. Happy New Year!

I love your content. I want to do more STA but I have overbooked myself as it is with my AD&D groups. My wife will kill me if I add any more. Please keep plugging away. People are keeping themselves busy and time may be limited. If not for my prior commitments I would jump on the chance to play in one of your games.

Re: family stuff I hear ya. This last year has been a huge reorganization of my life on and offline. Including the bit at the end isn’t meant to send any low feelings: on the contrary, it’s meant to be the beginning of a bit more candor about where I’m at with my own gaming, some actual examples of what I’ve done in the past, the hits and misses. “Antoine” the Facebook identity is gone now, which was where I compartmentalizations a lot of that, and now it’s just the CGA. For 2021, I want to be a little more transparent about who I am here on youtube, this is just a first window to that.

Can i have the old alias "The Complex Game Apologist"?
@The_CGA4 жыл бұрын
It remains thus; by switching to initials We’re just experimenting with a path to a higher conversion rate as I’ve seen a bit of sneering behind my back in some places, and the full name seems to color the first impressions of a certain type of gossip/trash-talking social butterfly types, further coloring the first impressions of others. Think of it like “the BBC” or “NBC” were monikers for “British Broadcasting Corporation” and “National Broadcasting Corporation,” respectively. I can be a better apologist for complex games if I lose fewer people before I even open my mouth.
@TookyG3 жыл бұрын
As a huge Trekker and RPG player, I wish I could enjoy this game. I keep coming back to it but everytime I do I am disappointed and frustrated. The system has too much negotiating with the GM, tasks are far too easy to succeed on, disciplines are huge catch-all skills that, as far as I'm concerned, are so broad they may as well not even be there, the lack of any meaningful advancement, and the sole focus on Starfleet characters unless you buy their Klingon book (or whatever they do next) just doesn't suit me at all.
@topclips1872 Жыл бұрын
You can use the initial Starfleet Book and your knowledge of Canon and Lore to create non Starfleet characters. However, what you really need is the Player's Guide. This goes into depth on how to achieve this. - Doc

I think you are 100% wrong on this. ST:A is meant to be a collaborative game, and since everyone has contributed to banking momentum, it is only polite to have a group's consensus before you spend it all. Whether you have everyone on camera and they just give a thumbs up or a thumb up emoji in chat there is some importance in consulting the group less they get mad at you for spending all the momentum on a simple task and then they have none for a more difficult task. It is everyone's momentum remember so we all have to be on the same page.
@The_CGA Жыл бұрын
The more talking in the middle of a task, the more a task becomes a giant out of character conversation. Sure, you can think about other people. You can consult your conscience-briefly. But I think you have 100% overlooked how much time it takes to navigate a task invocation in this game-and that one must trim the fat as much as possible interpersonally to keep things moving any faster than “put players to sleep” speed. This is an observation based on experience.
@logansaxby72243 жыл бұрын
This game is complete trash and in no way lets you replicate the Star Trek universe in a simple manner. I play Necromunda, Warhammer and DND. I've never played a game where the flow of play is so broken by bartering with the game master over which skill to use in a given situation considering this game is incredibly vague on that concept. Also the fact that they're broken up into episodes really takes you out of the experience
@The_CGA3 жыл бұрын
I would be happy to engage with some of your ideas here if you had done the courtesy of phrasing them as a question or recounting some of your own experiences. I hate to be that guy saying ‘watch your tone,’ but today that’s me, “watch your tone.”

Well Star Trek should be in episodes. That's what makes it feel like Trek.

There's always that one guy who thinks his opinion is 100% fact. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be a troglodyte in their eyes. Maybe you weren't doing it right? Or maybe you didn't GM it right? Come on man.
