The only thing i also didnt get was the trading cables/tubes. Cause in the show, I just imagined it was like going through a re-registration process, like when you get a pet micro-chipped, then maybe you wanna give the pet up, you gotta go to the vet to take the chip out. Each pokemon has a trainer number assoiated with it, so i just imagined that number was assigned by the pokemon league or council or even just their government there to track each trainers pokemon. I mean in the pokemon reality the pokeballs weren't created until 1925, before that everyone was just kinda hanging out with pokemon. Hell, they even married pokemon. So i think the government in their reality stepped in and was like Woah, now we got the Pokeballs to catch them, we gotta register them and everything. So it made sense to me just because thats how a red-tape filled bureaucratic system operates xD. I agree 100% with the rest, why can Nidoking breed with a level 10 Nidroran female?? and the cubone thing! xDD

Pikasprey Yellow lol
@SoHBetaSword7 жыл бұрын
So you're looking forward to our Comments on that one? Well, here's the thing: Nidoking is a child-rapist, due to how the rest of the female counterpart looses it's ability to breed with the very first Evolution. Well, while we don't know how the Animation-Studio actually goes about their Miniature-Nidoqueeen, having only the female Nidoran breed is quite disturbing. Annother unlogic part was the Lugia-Baby, coming from 2 Lugias in the Anime. In the Anime, there was a small group of Lugia, and a smaller Lugia being the child of the 2 normal-sized ones(the Villains tried to use it's anger and heightened Attack-Power)

As a kid I remember justifying the trading machine by thinking it changed the I.D. of the pokeball so you couldn't be accused of stealing it.
@leoishere98344 жыл бұрын
I used to think since pokemon needed to be traded to eveolve, that machine would send electric signals to the pokemon so that i would be prone to evolve
@kyuubinaruto174 жыл бұрын
The machines may keep a record of every trade, so that if someone tries to accuse someone of stealing they can just bring it up on a computer. And, as Leo said, the trade process can be used for evolution, though that would have to have been something known after the fact, since they wouldn't have known about that property until after it happened.
@Starfloofle3 жыл бұрын
This does make sense when you consider that items like the Snag Machine had to be created in order to steal captured pokemon, or how in old pokemon games the Badges were explicitly stated to be more than just trinkets, justifying their weird quirks I guess?? What with how pokemon you caught always obey but traded mons might not, even if you raised them from lv1 if they break your control level threshold. Poke logic is fucking weird and honestly the more you think about how it works and consider that they're clearly shown to be sentient, uh... Yeah Plasma was right lol
@Boredman5673 жыл бұрын
I figure that it changes the loyalty of the Pokemon inside the ball, since Pokeballs seem to automatically make Pokemon loyal to the user. Assuming the users have enough badges.
@Starfloofle3 жыл бұрын

Nidoqueen can breed in the wild, it's referenced in several pokedex entries that talk about it fiercely protecting its young. In captivity, however, just like female adult rhinos in real life, it loses that ability. Male rhinos are able to breed just fine in captivity, just like Nidoking.

my idea on why there are trading machines is the machines do the paperwork or changing the number on the current trainer so that there is no mistaking it was legally traded and not stolen. taking away human error
@Pikasprey7 жыл бұрын
Filling out some paperwork is a lot less expensive than installing oversized machines everywhere. If it did work that way, I think there could be a much simpler device made for that. (Why does the trading machine need to vacuum up the Pokebals?)
@indianboyster7 жыл бұрын
well if you have literally millions of trainers trading probably every day to me it seems the machines are cheaper than and as pokemon is so big and i love using wonder trade at times i trade several boxes randomly without machines it'd probably be a logistic nightmare but indeed the show added isn't needed for the machines to work but there are tons of machines with unneeded bells and whistles so to say(easy example the smart-phones even if it is fun in order to call other people the touch screens, apps etc aren't needed but still added)
@jfb-7 жыл бұрын
I think that the poke balls have some kind of DRM programmed into them, and maybe the trading machines handle the changes that need to be made to the data to make the trade valid in this way.
@MrDj2327 жыл бұрын
Pokemon can be moved and stored digitally, so I always figured the trading machine allowed digital trades. When you trade an NPC they don't take you to some huge machine, so it's not like every trade goes through one.
@jermuhh33597 жыл бұрын
But they need to be installed to pokemon Network. Which would mean you need to get some predeterminated place where you need to take really long time to fill all sorts off stuff and manually do all that shit. Easier to just go thru the Computer system.
@Potassiumkloride6 жыл бұрын
For Cubone, I've always thought of the pokedex entry in the game as being like mythology where it explains a phenomenon but isn't necessarily literal. "There once was a time when Cubones lived their lives unmasked, until one day a mother's life was ended prematurely. Her baby loved her so much that he wore her skull to carry her with him, and he missed her so much that the two fused together so they could be together forever. Since then, all Cubones have been born with the skull helmet to represent the love a child had for its mother."

Nidoqueen being sterile is an "Ascended Glitch". It couldn't breed in Gen 2 because of a glitch, and all subsequent games kept the status quo instead of fixing it. NOW IT MAKES EVEN LESS SENSE. irehgiaerj When a male Pokemon and a female Pokemon are in love, depending on the species and gender of the Pokemon, the male will materialize a small spark from its mouth/between its hands and, if it's female, it will produce a small bubble. When these two combine, they will glow a white light, as if evolving, and the zygote will instantly expand and transform into an egg. That's how, generally speaking, Pokemon eggs come from. As for genderless Pokemon, Ditto simply takes a small part of itself and creates a zygote that is ready to transform into an egg.

I like to entertain the thought that the Pokédex entries are actually written by the kids that you play as in these games, and that the crazy entries are simply the result of their overactive imaginations. It even makes a little bit of sense when you consider that Professor Oak supposedly sends Red/Blue/Yellow off to study Pokémon for him. I mean, who else would be the one writing them? The Pokédex? :V
@thirteenfury6 жыл бұрын
That would also explain why different generations and different versions have different text in the entries. Each kid writes something different, except for the smart ones who read previous Pokédex entries and copied them down into their own Pokédex files.

The trade machine has two main functions: preventing false trades (sleight-of-handing a rattata's ball in place of a rare pokémon anyone?) and updating registrations. After all, it'd be a problem if the Pokémon Storage System still thought it belonged to the old trainer, and there's probably legal concerns too. (Also, from a doylist perspective, it eats up time while they transfer all the data and make sure they're saved in a way that ensures pokémon are neither cloned nor vanish.)

Some pokemon had their weight limited for space reasons. In many cases this is because the JP versions of the games use Kg not Lb for weight, and more realistic weights in some cases would have not fit in the space allowed when converted to pounds, so an arbitrary maximum of 999.9 Kg (2204.4 lbs) was imposed. Also the lowest possible weight is 0.1 Kg which makes the lowest possible weight 0.2 Lb.

It can also be taught TM10, Hidden Power, for some... why? It can learn Hidden Power but it also cannot forget it either. The Pokemon is already pathetically weak in all aspects, at least give it Psychic or Psycho Cut or anything really. Ghastly and Wooper can also know Ice Punch, despite having no arms. Primape can know Iron Tail. Despite having no tail. Unless it's male and you consider hardening the front tail... At that point I'd call Officer Jenny for Pokemon sexual harassment. ... Then again, I had my Charizard breed my new born Charmander, jeez, maybe Team Rocket should take powerful Pokemon away from trainers.

Unown is simple. It's a gimmick Pokemon, like so many that follow it (Minun/Plusle, Wormadam, Villion). It wasn't given even any story significance until the HGSS Arceus event, where it's Pokedex entry (about being powerful when together) is fleshed out.

I think the trading machines do exist because I think all the Pokeballs have some kind of failsafe feature that happens when the Pokeball gets stolen, the Pokeball would go back to the original person's PC but there are probably machines that are illegal and they could remove the failsafe, team rocket, skull, and other teams have this in their hideout. One possible evidence is that most of the hideouts contains some kind of computer or such.
@seasea127 жыл бұрын
I think so, too. The biggest argument I have always had in favor of the "trading machines" is if we behave on the premise that the balls don't actually house the Pokemon, but data collecting the Pokemon's genetic likeness but manipulating their loyalty and freewill. They can still be released (as Ash does so with Butterfree), and be self-reliant (Such as when Pikachu and co. were separated from Ash and co. after being attacked by James's Gyarados) but this is why a Pokemon captured by a Trainer, who it was just fighting, would be able to suddenly fight for the Trainer's sake. The ball takes in the Pokemon in question, dissecting/disintegrating them down to nothing, creating a genetic template, and then using some form of cloning 3D printer, spits out the Pokemon. The reason why it fails is due to a fault in the ball's own systems and checks prior to this process. The shaking is actually the ball's ability to run these tests, and if any of them fail, the Pokemon is released. The final check, and reason why the ball can open even after that final shake? The ball's check for its ability to peacefully euthanize the Pokemon prior to the actual process. The ball then awaits the trainer's imprint--the button on the front that shrinks and enlarges the ball upon the Trainer's usage. The machine's purpose is to manipulate this code, allowing the code from the Pokeballs to be switched, without the switching of the balls, themselves. This is why in the anime examples, such as when Ash traded Butterfree with Raticate, we watch the Pokemon silhouettes pass through each other and the balls are dropped back on either side. The ball doesn't flip from one side to the other, it rather goes in, is manipulated, and is then kicked back out.

Nidoqueen just went through menopause and Nidoking is an old hustler
@exantiuse4974 жыл бұрын
But Nidorina can't breed either, and if we're supposed to think Nidoqueen is an old matriarch then Nidorina would be a young woman and Nidoran a teenager or child, and that would be just inappropriate. I think it was a glitch in Gen 2 (Nidoran wasn't supposed to breed but Nidorina and Nidoqueen were but it got mixed up) and they kept it so as a joke

So the Nidoqueen thing has kind of been solved. It was actually decided during Gen 1 that Nidorina and Nidoqueen wouldn't be able to make eggs. After Gen 1 was released in Japan a book that held special PokeDex like entries of the first 151 Pokemon was released. This book was never released outside of Japan. In it it says that Nidoran female loses the ability to breed after evolving. When they added breeding to Gen 2 they decided to follow this bit of lore that was made for this line instead of retconning it. DidYouKnowGaming has a video going over the whole book that they paid to have translated. Kind of pointless to stay true to this little bit of information from this one book but what's done is done I guess. GameFreak doesn't want them to breed.

I always figured you had to trade because of either ownership (your pokeball has a digital code or something that says it belongs to you, thus you can see the original trainer) or to change something in the pokemons head so they would listen to the new trainer (badges aside). It's like having a friend for ages and going "Well i like their friend better so i'm trading you to that person" i don't think it would go over well

I think it also has to do with the trainers license. I believe every trainer has an ID or license that is assigned to a Pokémon. That way it would prevent people from just stealing Pokémon and claiming it’s theirs.

Baby Cubone Problem #4 - Despite whatever female you pick in cubones breeding group to breed cubones, the skull will always be the same design.
@sodaddict6 жыл бұрын
I believe i can explain the Cubone phenomenon: Pokedex entries are subjective, by that i mean, a lot of entries usually just tell the stories of one type of Pokemon and not the species itself. It's possible that not all Cubones are wearing the skull of their dead mother, but rather, its some sort of bone formation that is wrapped around their head at birth, something that they may or may not be able to take off. This is supported by the fact that Marowak's head is all skull.
@SnoFitzroy5 жыл бұрын
OR maybe it's exclusively talking about the one in Lavender? I still generally go by the idea that it's species-wide and I just accept the some entries just simply will never make sense though

To the Trading System: It makes very much sense! Each ball has the special ID of the owner, so all Balls i buy from the Shop have my name written in it, so whoever might steal my Pokemons, i will always see which Balls are mine! So during trading, you dont Trade the Balls with eachother, but you change the creature in it! So if i trade my Pidgey with an Charmander of 'Peter', the Ball of my new Charmander will still have my name written in/on it and the Ball of Pidgey will have the name 'Peter' now. Thats also why PokeBalls will teleport to the PC if you caught Pokemon No.7 and it doesnt land in someone elses PC Storage!
@AurageyserOrion7 жыл бұрын
The trading machine is very likely to do with the pokemon storage system after all if you deposit someone elses pokemon in its original pokeball they caught it in would the system deposit it in there box and vice versa
@nickssummerlist7397 жыл бұрын
In generations 1-5 (maybe not 4 or 5, I don't trade in those games) you can only trade with pokemon in your party, so automatic transfer wasn't available in trading. In addition, N's Zoura wasn't released, yet you still put it in your box when it isn't yours.

Actually there is an explanation. When a pokemon is captured the pokemon and the ball gain essentially a tag. This tag allows the pokemon to block pokeballs when it would usually be unable to do so. In scenarios (like the anime charmander) the pokemon can accept being caught by another trainer. The trading machine essentially edits this tag so now it you can control what happens in the ball e.g. releasing the pokemon, etc
@MisterBones29106 жыл бұрын
But what about when you trade a Spearow for a Farfetch'd and whatever for Tangela or Lickitongue? It's been more than a decade since I played the originals or FR/LG, but they had the same pokeball blocking stuff and as far as my memory goes those trades were just hand-to-hand transactions. Not to mention the fact that the Game Corners don't really look like they have anything to write the supposed RFID (or whatever) tag either.
@rolypoly49203 жыл бұрын
Several Pokemon in R/B were created to serve the story narrative. In Pokemon Tower, NPCs tell you that Rocket recently came through and killed a Marowak. You run into her ghost even. I think the whole thing about Cubone is that it is supposed to be literally wearing that specific Marowak's skull. Cubone are so rare in R/B that unless you are really trying, you are only going to run into one. Its encounter rate is like 10%. The idea is that you would probably see the one, catch it, and then learn the sad fate of that Marowak's child. In Yellow Cubone start being found in the Safari Zone since I think they realized that story doesn't make sense after the first play through of a game.

i see the Rube-Goldberg trading machine as serving to register the new trainer as their current owner, in the event that the pokeball is lost or stolen. We don't really know all the science behind pokeballs -- they can compress enormous creatures inside them, and teleport said creatures to a cloud storage service as well. Granted, none of these things are stated outright, so I wouldn't give the Pokemon company credit for that rationale. Also I've heard the kanghaskan/cubone theory before, but it never oCCURED to me that kanghaskan hatching as two pokemon might be explanation enough for cubone hatching with its mother's skull. How can you even _fly_ on a bird anyway? It probably would become unconscious mid-flight, not being able to support your weight, if not being able to even start flying at all. So it's either the bird has super human strength, or humans are extremely light weight and made of paper. New theory?
@WinVisten6 жыл бұрын
You can ride ostriches! So if a bird was big enough and capable of flight, I don't see why you couldn't ride a flying bird. It would just need to be a bird with stronger than average bones, again like an ostrich. (most!) Bird bones are hollow so if you were to try riding, say, a giant chicken or turkey, chances are you'd crush the poor thing. But ostriches, emus, rheas, and other land-based flightless birds have stronger bones. So you'd just need a bird that was capable of both flying AND running, so that it would have a bone structure in between that of a flying bird and an ostrich-like structure. Chances are though that you'd have to be fairly light to ride this bird and that you could easily injure it if you thrashed around too much.

If you're a trainer trying to breed a Nidoqueen, then yes, they are in captivity. Nidoqueen was also introduced in the '90s, during a time when captive rhino breeding was not meeting very much success. Zoos have improved their techniques in the meantime. If you don't understand how real life nuance like that might get lost in translation to a video game where things either can breed or cannot breed, I don't know what to tell you.
