Hyundai can market it as an SUV but very few people are looking at it as anything other than a raised hatchback and thus all-wheel drive isn't needed unless you're living in that part of the country that welcomes it but I grew up in Maine and never had it and did just fine with front wheel drive as do most chowdas. A good set of winter tires can get you through just about anything. As for ride quality, I must be in the minority because I found it quite civil in the city even with N mode fully dialed in but then again so much of that depends on the road quality where you live. I can definitely see it being an issue in areas of the country where budgets have taken a hit and road maintenance and upkeep have become an afterthought. As for it being a manual, I just don't think they would have sold that many to justify the option. Buying statistics bear this out. We're coming to the end of an era and the majority of buyers just don't want three pedals anymore, sad to say. They're content with paddle shifters. Having written all that it's your list and we all have our various quibbles with each car we purchase. The question for many owners will be how many of their quibbles will still be an issue three or four years down the road assuming they even still have it. The 2023 is the final incarnation and I believe Hyundai is going to push their electric from this juncture forward. My prediction is this will become a cult classic... much the same way the original Nissan Sentra SE-R became.

In Germany, the Kona N with the leather-Alcantara seats (comfort package) has ventilated seats incl.! I'm getting my Kona N next week and can't wait.. 😏

Hyundai dropped the ball on this one. I would get the N-line since has awd and is a bit more comfortable despite it having less power.

There are a lot of suv’s that only have fwd.. but i tought kona has a awd model.. think is the 1.6 T awd .

I'd settle for the GTI & the R if I could swing it over the Kona any day of the week, a much better daily driver, ( I uswd to own a 2009). BTW, would really love you reviewing the GTI, R & BMW 3 series at some point, Love German cars!

one thing that is missing from the market are cars likme this! I want something with performance but also need clearance as well for most placesI go too... There needs to eb a bigger market for these type of cars and there's not really much around unless you go for something like a skoda or a golf.

For me, the deal breaker was the seat. I was moving around a lot in it while on track. Switched to i20n and now i'm happy.

Kona N isn't SUV, but CUV - crossover utility vehicle. Interior space, dimensions and precisely the absence of 4x4. The SUV starts with the BMW X5 / AUDI Q5. You're technically off. The European version has ventilated front seats as standard. I agree that the panoramic window will disrupt the integrity and rigidity of the body.

I agree with you completely, this isn't a SUV it's a Hot Hatch 100%. Also, the ventilated seats are a real missed opportunity, I have the Elantra N and the seats get warm real quick🥵

I think the Kona looks better than the Elantra but of course I haven't drove neither one, just judging visually, I much rather have a hot hatch than a spots sedan, but that's just me.

@@gregholman2930 I thought the same thing until I saw both in person (the Elantra N has more of an aggressive "whale shark" look in person), that and the dimensions look better as well. That said, I do want to eventually get a Kona N and modify it a bit to make it the rally hot hatch it deserves to be!👍

@@moochachaa Why would you put ventilated seats in a colder climate and not in a warmer climate lol Also, please tell me you have Heated Seats otherwise Hyundai might have just messed up on the seats' heating & cooling functions in general haha😂😂

I love my Kona N and pretty much all his gripes are lame. It’s a crossover why say lower it? Do you think the X3M should be lowered too? I have an M4 as weekend car and I think this DCT is smoother then the Kona is smoother. This guy is complaining about sports car problems. Also don’t forget the Civic Type R is fwd and it’s the benchmark for the category.

A shame we don't get an i30N over this Kona N thing. RIP Veloster N, you will be missed. To your point, the Kona N appeals to no one. Its not a suv and its not a hot hatch. It compromises everywhere so its not good at anything

Getting the i30N would have been awesome. And I think the Kona N could work, it just needs to be modified "a bit" to become a rally hot hatch😁

Kona N is great, save for the DCT(idfc if it’s faster) If we had the i30 over here, I would have opted for that handsdown. Was going to get the EN, they only had the DCT though. Boo. I enjoy it, haven’t watched the video , but I’m pretty sure it’ll touch on the same 4/5 things we all seem to dislike. I would have loved adjustable bolsters, similar to the early Taurus SHO
