Great video. I love the points you make and your footage is beautiful. My family and I did an extended "workation" in Waikiki early this year for a full couple of months and it was a fabulous and magical time - in the perfect place. Your list is like a to-do list of all the (opposite) things we tried to do while there. We explored the island multiple times; enjoyed and respected several natural wonders (Diamond Head, Waimea Valley and falls, and more) went all over Honolulu; became members at the Bishop Museum, went a few times, and loved it; went to farmer's markets and the swap meet. Food was an absolute joy - mostly food trucks and small restaurants. It was just a life-changing experience. Even though crowds were low when we were there, we saw PLENTY of eh...well, asshole...tourists treating people like crap, complaining about mask mandates, and generally being jerks. I can't even imagine what it is like in full-crowd mode.

Thank you, and I appreciate the comment. I'd venture to guess 98% of tourists are just like yourself. They're responsible travelers who are nice, willing to try the local cuisine, and are respectful of the people and culture. Unfortunately, there are always a few bad apples who think Hawaii is simply "paradise," and since they're on vacation, they treat the place like its their own personal playground. The way you traveled around the island is how I wish each and every tourist spent their time here.

I love your videos, Shane! Tourism is HawaII's bread and butter. 1) I loved taking the busses in Hawai'i. I shopped for my food at Don Quijote too. Shane, those of us without cars in Hawaii, have to limit ourselves to where we can walk to and get to easily on foot. So, although I am dying to eat at Alicia's and Helena's, I can never do so because they are so far from where I stay. 2) Yes, we agree. Do NOT touch those lovely turtles, PLEASE. 3) Yes, do not litter anywhere, although Shane to be honest with you, I have seen locals and Kanaka Maoli also throwing trash willy-nilly, too, so ... everyone does it. 4) Give a lot of respect and expect only a little in return. I think that the more humble tourists are, then, the more appreciative the locals and natives anywhere will be.

The same "points" apply to anybody. Local, Haole, tourist, resident. Lots of "residents" of the state who hold one standard for tourists and another for their friends and themselves.

Thank you for the new videos for the past month ー I learn something new every time ☺️ This video made me research more about Hawaiian history as I can’t recall learning much about the history of the islands here on the mainland, and definitely not in-depth on the exploitation James Cook committed. Hi! Thanks for watching. As a local, even though Hawaiian history is a mandatory class in Hawaii public schools, I admittedly am not as well versed in the specific atrocities committed to the Native Hawaiians as I should be. I have much more to learn, and tourists thinking Hawaii is just white sand beaches and picturesque scenery, are seeing just a tiny side to the island's overall story. I'm glad you're wanting to learn more 🤙🏼

Thank you for this 😌 I work in a restaurant...it is an experience that creates empathy for people who are trying to pay their rent by servicing others... They are not service robots designed to take abuse... I have met a bunch of Hawaiian natives, who are on the main because they can't afford to live in their homeland....so...yeah 😐

Any activities or programs you know that allow for volunteer or ways to give back to the community? I don’t have a set agenda, just mostly visiting a friend and traveling alone. I’m focusing on local businesses to check out and definitely local food

On my third trip to the big island found myself yelling at another tourist to get back from the resting turtles. Looking forward to Oahu in February 23, and all the mom and pop spots 🤙🇨🇦

I'll add don't take random surfboards laying on the beach and think that they're free rentals for to use to learn how to surf. Saw an idiot tourist take a nice new board off the rock wall at Waikiki beach by the Duke statue. He splashed around trying to teach himself how to surf and broke the fin off. They almost got their ass beat by locals because they were not apologetic when the local guy paddled in and took his board back. The tourist escalated it and got his whole family got kicked off the beach bc he almost started a fight even though he was clearly in the wrong lol.
