I had just my left headphone in and I could hear it fine, then I put my right one in too and the audio changed to only be heard in the right ear. How weird haha!

I totally agree, Brett, especially about the older generation's ages. It does make the characters a lot more sympathetic when you realize they weren't so much older than the trio. I'd also like to see more of Ron's personality. In the books he was so funny and earnest, and in the movies he was just kinda there.

Map out all 7 books first in screenplay. Completely! Identify your plot holes. Then in the first three books that you say are hard to stretch into full seasons, you start plugging those plot holes in advance. People will think you're a genius at foreshadowing!

Mind you, there is also a lot you can expand on in the first books. There are a lot of parts where a paragraph describes a bunch of things happening, but you could extend those bits into actual scenes.

My 5: - Nail the characters, show smaller character moments - Show scenes and events not shown in the films or described in the books - Be unique, don’t copy the films (e.g. open with Dumbledore at Privet Drive) - produce practical sets and effects were appropriate - do not cast a minority for the role of Harry, Ron or Hermione (they will grow up whilst being in the show, the internet will bully them for their entire childhood, spare them that, make diverse castings with the adult characters)

My number one thing is to please make sure that Hermione is characterised as she is in the books! Film Hermione was a Mary Sue. Book Hermione was nuanced; she had flaws and strengths and those need to play out in the series. And then, Ron's character will be evened out and not just comic relief like he was in the films.

Thank you for doing this important work! I fully agree with all your points. I would like to add a couple I’ve been thinking about: 1. Book-accurate characters as a whole. Your points about Harry are spot on but I’d love to see more book accurate Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and even snape (don’t come for me I looooooved Rickman’s portrayal and wouldn’t change it but this is a good way to set the tv character apart from the movie) 2. Proper foreshadowing. J.K did a lot of it in the books but a lot was left out of the movies because the directors didn’t know what was coming or hadn’t read the series. 3. Fill plot holes. Preferably of course without changing the actual story. The marauder’s map is a good example of something I think they can fix without altering the story. I don’t know how lol but people much craftier than me should be able to figure something out. Can’t wait to see your other videos on your takes for the later books/seasons, have really enjoyed your thoughts so far!

There was a slight hint in the Prisoner of Azkaban (which is funny because in the book they were really going at it) when Hermione gets scared she grabs Ron’s arm.

Those things are perhabs nice and fun but I do not think the show is destroyed when the do not do those things. It is way more important that they stay true to the books I think in my opinion.

I think the best way to show how evil Voldemort was, is to show the first war to some degree. Show the first order as a bunch of young kids. Neville’s parents were not much older than James and Lily. Lupin needed to look older than his true age, to show the physical damage his life has taken on him. Sirius looking older can also make sense after Azkaban, but his childish side needs to be seen more. Show James proposing to Lily before their last feast at Hogwarts. Show them joining the first order. In the Fantastic Beasts movies we see Grindelwald taking over a muggle home killing the family like swatting flies. Voldemort needs to be seen doing stuff like that, but for no reasons. In the books we only see him kill a few people, Grindelwald, poor muggle Frank, and some of his own Death Eaters.

For Voldemort, I think the show can deviate from the book in the way that Harry should actually do some research in his first year about who the murderer of his parents actually was. He hardly learns anything about Voldemort at that time, and in retrospect, that's hardly believable. He could, at a very young age, learn that the danger is far beyond his personal level, and that would certainly benefit the story.

For Serius it will be great if we see him moments after the death of the Potters. The show can have the scene when Serius confronts Peter and Peter ends up blowing the street and sending him to prison. Then when we meet Serius in season 3 (PoA), we can compare how he looks much more older than Peter (a well fed rat).

We also need Dumbledores and Voldemorts backstory flashed out out more. These are the heart of the last two books and are barley shown in the movies. And we need a proper Barty Crouch Jr. & Sr. Story as the main twist of goblet of fire

Something else that the show definitely needs is COLOR! The books are so colorful, and yet the films gave some scenes an almost black and white look.

Ginny's character and her relationship with Harry. They already know Ginny ends up with Harry with all the books being out and that she develops into a sassy and determined person. The movies wrote her as someone who doesn't talk that much and is shy throughout the series plus her scenes with Harry were awkward.

With JK heavily involved in this TV Show I have some meassure of hope that it'll be good. But I'm still worried they'll find a way to mess it up. That seems to be an ongoing trend at the moment after all. Shows, movies and games can no longer be fun, entertaining or have a good story, so I still have my concerns.

It will be great if episode 1 starts with the first chapter of philosopher's stone with Uncle Vernon's day until he starts seeing the wizards on his way home. While he is disgusted we see the flashback of Voldemort killing the Potters, followed by Sirius arriving at the Potter Cottage, meeting Hagrid and Hagrid taking baby Harry on the flying motorcycle to Surry. We can then get to the point where Sirius confronts Peter on the alleyway where Peter kills 13 muggles and frames his death leading to Seirus's incarceration in Azkabaan. Episode 1 can end with the first scene of the movie with Dumbledor and McGonagal meeting Hagrid and them leaving Harry at the door of the Dursleys, and them finding Harry and the letter in the morning. Episodes 2-5 can show Harry's life before the age of 11, there can be an episode dedicated to the different instances of magic from Harry. For instance, episode 2 can show the following: He turned his teacher's wig blue, he shrunk one of Dudley Dursley's old sweaters that Aunt Petunia was trying to force him to wear, and found himself on the roof once when his cousin Dudley and his gang were chasing him; possibly through a form of Apparition. He managed to grow all his hair back when his Aunt Petunia gave him a dreadful haircut using a pair of kitchen scissors. He also magically spoke with a boa constrictor at the zoo in Parseltongue and unintentionally set it free by making the glass vanish. Episode 4 can be the Hagrid episode with the revelation and Harry's trip to Diagon Alley & meeting his first classmate at Madam Malkins (Draco). And unlike the movie it can show Harry coming back to the Dursleys and spending the remaining summer thinking about magic. Episode 5 can be about Harry going to Kings Cross while the Dursleys get Duddly checked up. It can include the interaction at the station (with the Dursleys and not Hagrid). It can show Harry meeting the Weasleys, befriending Ron, etc etc. In short, Season 1 can easily be a 12-16 episode season.

Stick to the books and dont put unnecessarily bad humor scenes. The plot should still be serious.
