1. do your research (dont let dealers get away with markups, or, buy private) 2. join forums or Facebook groups etc (to start talking to other owners about what it's like to own a Type-R) 3. join a local, in-person group/community 4. find a local, trusted mechanic (your local Type-R owners can point you in the right direction) 5. stay on top of your maintenance

Uhh I think these apply to most cars. Should be like: 2nd gear grind, thin paint, rusty spark plugs, cabin drone for aftermarket exhausts, etc. good info nonetheless

Thanks for the comment. This is a list of some tips when first owning the R, to better your ownership experience. I will make a video in the future of common problems you might face though. However, I will say that while I’ve heard of these issues you mentioned from other owners I have yet to experience any of them. Other than the aftermarket exhaust with a little bit of drone on my last Type R.

Absolutely. Everything he’s covering goes for ANY vehicle you’re thinking of investing in, not just this civic. It’s not like the Type R flys or does anything extraordinary that other vehicles don’t. It’s a cool car don’t get me wrong but again it’s a souped up civic from Honda. This is coming from a 16 STi owner which are also highly sought after as well.

Saw a yellow one for 70k. Gorgeous car but damn... feel like I’m paying 25k extra for a color. Might as well get a black one and paint it yellow and save a ton of money... I’m about to get the hatchback sport but wondering if the Type R is truly worth the extra money. I’d probably put 30k down and make payments. Maybe $300/mo?
@MotorMisfit

In terms of the LE, it's a specific car for specific buyers. If you are not that buyer then I wouldn't do it. I'm not the buyer for that car. In terms of Type R vs Hatchback sport, there is definitely a difference.If you want more performance with your daily drive then the Type R is where its at. If you are looking for more convenient daily then save the money and go with a Hatchback sport.

@@MotorMisfit They all said the same thing. Honda divies up the cars between dealers. Certain dealers get more, some get none. Toyota does the same thing. Which is one reason why it's dumb that they even have a "Build" option on their websites because you can't order your own Toyota or Honda, at least not the Type R.
@MotorMisfit

Yea man that sucks. I would try different dealers even out of your area. I got my first Type R (the black one) in Atlanta and drove 9 hours there and 9 hours back to get it so definitely check dealers outside your local area. Good luck 👍🏽

There are auto calculators online that you can use to get a monthly payment based on the credit score, term of the loan, and the full price of the car. I would start with seeing what your monthly max payment would be to pay for a car and if the math works out to where you can afford it and not live check to check then go ahead and do it. There are too many factors that come into play so just be cautious and know what your payment range will be.

Depends what you are looking for. If it’s the best price on a Type R then you have to search and gauge that yourself. unfortunately with the new car prices many dealerships that were good before are now greedy and showing their true colors. Now If it’s for service on your Type R then I would go to Rick Case Honda in Davie.

Great info about 6 things to know on Type R owner as first time! I would like to buy used Type R with a lot of upgrade modifications or performance instead of stock Type R to save $$$. I like the new Boosted Pearl Blue Type R and Phoenix Yellow Limited Edition but expensive. I saw one 18’ Type R already have upgrade modifications and rims, etc from Hot Rides Texas for $35,997. I wonder why owner decided to to sell this Type R with a lot of upgrades. I would like to give them a call and find more information. Check out the website, Hot Rides Texas. If I plan to get Type R in future then my plan is to put $$$ on payment down, so car payment will go lower instead of paying a like $600 to 700 per monthly. Let me know what do you think of my comment. Thanks!
@MotorMisfit
@MotorMisfit 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment bro! I just checked out the car at Hot Rides and it does look nice. Many upgrades, nice PMM color, and the price is not bad for all of that. I would go check it out, test drive it, and see if you like it. All the Type R owners I know don't cut corners so the mods on that PMM R look like someone did it right but check it out in person. Also, check out www.CivicX.com as some owners sell their Type Rs there with mods and all. I like the Boost Blue and phoenix yellow ones too but not liking the price hike that come with those so I'd rather other colors at the moment. I like your money plan, that's a great way to lower your payments.

@MotorMisfit
@MotorMisfit 3 жыл бұрын
There are many variables. Depends how you drive and what you do with the car. I don't think brake pads on a Type R would go to 20k miles although there may be exceptions depending how it has been driven
@gravityhammer25
@gravityhammer25 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think maitenance on the Type R is bad at all, the big maitenance items are at 100K miles (valve check/adjustment and sparkplug change I think) and those really should not be that bad. Beyond that Oil Change, Air Filters and brakes (wear item)... really not bad. My rotors, pads and fluid are being changed out soon not becuase they are bad, but becuase I need an upgrade for the track. If I did not track this car the stock brakes would stay because they are more than good enough for the street. Unlike my old WRX STI which needs all sorts of differential fluid changes, timing belt changes(eventually). The STI also ate up brake pads and rotors quicker because it was heavier and mine had a sticky caliper problem. Type R is an absolute bargain when it comes to maitenance for a performance car (in my opinion).
@MotorMisfit
@MotorMisfit 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I totally agree with you. Maintenance is not bad at all. It is a Honda so you definitely see that in the maintenance but yes depending on whether you track it hard or not is where you see things wear out more. Still not bad compared to other cars. I heard from some friends of the STI needing lots of things and having to do some repairs so in comparison the Type R is a great bargain for a daily/track car.

@gravityhammer25
@gravityhammer25 3 жыл бұрын
Only if you go with a quality aftermarket setup, I have a AP Racing Jhook Kit (not installed yet) that was around 1200 but it is well worth it for me becuase I need it for the track. The stock rotors would have been fine technically but I don't want to experience any cracking or warping and possible loss of track time (car downtime). As far as the street goes the stock rotors are perfect and you should only have to change pads. Stock rotors should at least last 30,000 miles on the street (thats just an estimate though)... my stock rotors have 10K miles and three track days and lots of abuse and have no sign of warping or cracks yet. Pads still have life left too, but I have my replacements ready to go on the car. EDIT: May end up paying 1200 if you are paying the dealer to replace brakes though... but if you go to a quality independent shop i'm sure it would cost much less.
@MotorMisfit
@MotorMisfit 3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are around that price give or take for the front ones. You could go with OEM or aftermarket which will change the price a bit but it’s around that price if you get someone to install it for you.

Great info! I haven’t checked out that kit yet but will have to look into it. How is it? How do you like it? Yes, the price fluctuates depending on what setup you go with and who installs it. The dealer will be the most expensive for sure.
