What’s your favorite part about the city? I like that there are so many parks and you’re close to the beach so there’s a lot to do.

I moved to Torrance about 7 years from San Francisco. The weather here agrees with my sinus. I don't get swollen glands here from the cold like I did in NorCal. Torrance now feels like home to me. I like the South Bay a lot. I have only seen one possum.

And might I add the pollution/danger from the refineries?
@livingintorrance
@livingintorrance Жыл бұрын
Yes the refinery is definitely something to be aware of. I am in West Torrance and I am about 2 miles from the refinery, so there are a lot of places to live in Torrance not close to the refinery

If it's 90F in Torrance it's probably 100 anywhere else nearby. Those foggy days in the summer and it's a relief! Sure traffic can be heavy and it's not a very walkable city but the roads have high capacity.

I thought a home had to be tented whenever it's sold
@livingintorrance
@livingintorrance 2 жыл бұрын
It’s possible that they do in other areas, but in Southern California it is up to the buyer to do their investigations during escrow and get a termite inspection and that will tell if it needs to be tented, spot treated, or nothing at all.

You forgot to mention the mosquitos. Just a couple of years ago they were so bad and they didn’t look like your typical mosquito…it must have been a cross breed of fly and mosquito. So gross.

50yo born and still live in torrance. over development is an issue. all the old commercial properties are being replaced with multi residential buildings so crowds and traffic are getting much worse. home prices are way over priced, 1950s 3 bed 2 bath 1200sq/ft for over a mil is a rip off in my book. torracne is also at the ass end of LA, meaning that to get out the city it takes 2 to 3 hours dependign on which way your going. Torrance is also hood adjacent, so being in east or north torrance you will be victim to robbery. all that said, we are 2 hours from skiing or snowboarding, we have our own beach with good waves occasionaly and the schools are ok, use to be much better. torrance is also home to a refinery, and many corporate headquarters so it has a mssive tax base, meaning the city is well funded and utilities are run well. over-all its pretty nice, it was much better until around 2000. if you can afford it anddont mind crowds and traffic you'll enjoy it.

Very well said. I grew up in Northern California and I have fond memories of my town but each time I go back I see something I don’t like. Overcrowdedness is happening everywhere, I don’t know what the answer is. I’m sure there are many places in Texas right now that are hating all of the Californians coming out there lol

I loved living in Torrance, however, they have the most reckless fire department I’ve ever seen. I was told that In the LAFD academy they actually show footage of Torrance showing up to a Vehicle fire and they say “ alright, watch the clock!” Torrance Fire takes their time and by the time they actually put water on the car that was only a very very mild smoke from the engine area …. It’s fully engulfed in flames. Now a total loss. Next ask them about the Standard Paint store that burnt to the ground before they responded to the building that was ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE FIRE STATION! And last but definitely not least, their medical care is the running joke for all other fire departments. One time they let a little boy die on a corner because they wanted to be the big “heroes”and get there first , when a Gerber Ambulance was across the street calling it in and was told not to enter the scene , wait! Torrance Fire said to “stand down!, we are coming!” … the little boy was swept away by TPD and rushed to Little Company of Mary Hospital where the little boy was pronounced dead. He choked and all he needed was the Heimlich manoeuvre that could have saved his life by the EMT’s in the Ambulance. I could go on to give you many other instances, because I worked with TFD on an Ambulance for years. Such a sad department. But a great city outside of those problems. Very close to the beach and fun place to live!

I have trouble believing this because their FD has won awards because they can handle refinery fires. And there are medical staff literally everywhere in the city

Never used to be coyotes until about 8 years ago because animal rights activists made it illegal to get rid of them about 10 years ago. If they attack you or your dog, you are technically not allowed to even try to beat them off with a baseball bat. Was only a major issue in about 2018-2019 when the coyotes were getting hungry enough that they were approaching people and even sneaking inside home if a door was not fully shut. So sad. Made walking un-fun. Seems to be ok again now.

What's even sadder? The fact that these animals, who were here long before us, are starving and searching for sustainable food and shelter, because humans have pushed them out of their natural habitats. And now, local residents want to beat them with baseball bats? That's what's sad.
