Oh, and theoretically - prayer is talking to God, no one can stop you from it - you can just pray for people you see or meet in the street in your head - but then this should not be according to their outside appearance, but a general prayer to "help them in whatever struggle they are currently facing."

As a Christian, I hate so much how people ask 'Can I pray for you?', like come on, just pray for the person in private, ask God to help them, when you're in your alone time with God. I sometimes sense that people who ask 'Can I pray for you?" is for two reasons: 1-You want to look good, and want the person to say "oH mY gOD, yOu aRE SuCH a grEAt peRson", or 2- they don't understand the situation, or thinks its easy as it is; or think God is a wishing machine. I just don't understand. (I'm not talking about Pastors, or people who work in God's business, in a Church is common that question, but If you really want to pray for a friend, you shouldn't ask, you just pray and that's it)
@noneofyourbusiness2735 жыл бұрын
@rubyvelez01 That's what I say, If you want to pray for a person, you can, without asking BUT in your own alone time with God, in intimacy, as a Christian, I apologize if someone was rude about it. There's people that doesn't understand limits

I am also a Christian and I have medical and mental issues that some people have asked (not myself, but other people I know from support groups) if they could pray for them. It's just not a good thing to ask someone to you don't know at all. I feel like maybe if you were in a deeper conversation with them about it and they asked, maybe...but even then it would be kinda insulting.
@Kaye09MNchick5 жыл бұрын
@@tabitas.2719 Yes! Very much agree with this last bit! There's no need to ask to pray to God. You should be able to just pray to God whenever you want in your head. No need to bother the person who's going about their business about it.

This is the most beautiful answer! But this is tough one. I've been the person asking or saying hey let's pray you heal! And it's not always the most precious thing to say to someone who has probably heard it for many years.

I can not tell you how offended I was on the inside every time some came up to me and asked if they could pray for me. for one, I don't know you and secondly thanks for reminding me how sick I look. Lastly if you really felt I needed prayer so badly then just do it, why even ask me? I don't know, if you ask me anyone who is asked "Can I pray for you" is just finding a reason to judge and feel they are better than someone else.

In my experience you are right. I'd like to add though, the kind of religious people who would ask this are never going to be world leaders (if you know what I mean). Generally I've found that "only have the best intentions" and "say it from a place of love" are just expressions used to try to explain away the sadistic and insulting behaviour. I'm an atheist, I was baptised christian but I denounce all of that. I don't need the guilt to keep my moral compass in check, and I don't understand anyone that does. I can say this though, there is NO WAY I would do or say any of these five things to anyone, ever. Also, Blind Girl is beautiful.

I am a Christian too. I've been sick my entire life. I was a child when I first became sick. So many people would surround me and pray for me. So many people yelled at me "if you only believe," "stop accepting your illness," or "you just have to take your healing." It messed me up. As a sick child I suddenly felt like it was my fault that I was sick. I laid in bed at night awake praying, "God, Im trying so hard to believe like they say. I believe." Then people told me if I wanted to be healed I had to stop saying I was sick and tell people I was healed. So I did that. I started lying. I told everyone I was fine. I stopped calling my doctors. Guess what? I didnt get better. I got sicker (duh). I fell into depression and I blamed myself for my illness. I couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong. It took a long time to heal the emotional pain these "prayers" caused. Now I only let a select number of people I know and trust pray for me. I can't say that I understand healing completely but I do know now that it was never my fault, God never wanted someone to yell at me about my healing (all throughout scripture, He never did) and that God will always be there with me.

Lucía Frau I am not blind or visually impaired but am heavily involved in disability awareness. Best thing is going up to someone, in normal tone just say hi then then ask if they need help. Don’t physically touch as they could be fine and that may disorientate a person when trying to concentrate. If you go to Twitter there is a hashtag trending called #JustAskDontGrab which shows the issues that happen when people suddenly try to help without asking and really useful links on best ways to approach. Hope this helps a little.

The "Can I pray for you?" question feels condescending even for me and frankly I find it insulting sometimes as well, and I'm not blind.
@Cozycultcreations5 жыл бұрын
I think a more appropriate question would be "is there anything that I can pray for you about?" I come from the perspective that I'm not assuming you need prayer because you are less of a person but if you would or even a loved one would like a little prayer, good vibes, positive thoughts, ECT... But I understand the annoyance if they are assuming that they are gonna heal you! I had a stroke about a week ago (I'm only 37) and a couple prayed for me at the store. It was fine until they went on and on for what seemed like an eternity! Then they just made me uncomfortable. Like they asked if I felt different. I'm like ummm...no... Make it short and sweet, not long creepy and like I'm at a holy rollers revival...

Jennifer I get that but I think it’s most appropriate for people to just keep their religions to themselves and not try and push it on people all the time, it really shouldn’t be something that comes up unless you’re talking to a friend or family and the conversation is about that. You actually summed up my thoughts on the “can I pray for you” thing pretty damn well. Even with good intention it usually just comes off as rude, conveying that they believe you need to be fixed in some way. I’ve gotten it twice before, once because of my PTSD diagnosis, that one I could let slide since I was struggling a lot with it at the time, though admittedly it still felt rather belittling. The other time however was incredibly offensive since it was because they learned I was gay? Makes me so angry even thinking back on it.

The most frightening thing about that was that he had a captive audience. I could not leave the car as I was in an unfamiliar city and he knew that so he just didn't stop - even when I asked politely, and then not so politely. fortunately the ride was a short one. The orver-riding theme of this video is that people seem to think we should wish to be other than we are - i.e. more like them. How colossally arrogant. I'm not sure all those comments are about this phenomenon, but I just wanted to share: I've forgotten she's blind a lot (how is that even possible?) just because I become so involved in her videos and whatever she's talking about (fashion, travel, whatever). And I just relate to her so much that I think I just forget about it. When I'm focused on the content of the video, I think my brain just goes on auto pilot and assumes she's just like me (sighted) - if that makes any sense. (and then she'll have a 'blind girl moment' and I'll realize I forgot she was blind!) When you get to know someone with a disability (especially an obvious disability), after a while the disability just fades into the background and you just see the person. She goes from "that blind girl" to "Molly" in your mind.

He asked if I was okay or needed help, which is kind and totally fine, but after we talked about my situation for a bit, he asked if he could pray for me. It was news to me, but apparently he meant right NOW, so he put his hands on my shoulders (no consent given), closed his eyes, bowed his head, and said a very cliche prayer out loud in the middle of the beauty department. OMG! As someone who has a chronic illness that’s having a major affect on my health right now if I hear ‘you just need to leave the house more’ or ‘you need more exercise’ etc from my other half or his family I may scream. I have an actual illness, moving my legs a bit more isn’t gonna help, my dr has never suggested that and I’m sick of hearing it, sure if it would help I’d do it, but if I leave the house or walk around for one day I’m absolutely exhausted for three days. The worst part is is it gets in your head and you start questioning if it’s your fault for being ‘lazy’. It makes it worse that my health has gone way down hill recently with no apparent change to my condition. Health and medical conditions are a complete mind fuck honestly.

Audrey Davidson it absolutely does make you feel worse, and honestly we don’t need anything else making us feel worse than we already do. I swear that having a long term health condition gives people a burden complex, we feel guilty that we can’t do as much as other people and rely on others for help, and when they validate our feelings by making us feel like it’s our own fault for being ill or that we can somehow control it it is devastating.

No. 5 people should never ever reproduce. What kind of messed up person must one be to say such thing... Thank you for educating us, love ❤

Your last comment you mentioned is something that definitely resonates with me. My parents adopted myself & the rest of my three siblings. You're very right. Sometimes, kids are in the foster/adoption system because legal actions had to be taken. That does happen. However, sometimes, the parents make the choice themselves. It really is a selfless thing to say, "I want the best for my baby, even if I can't give it to him/her, myself." I also had a friend who got pregnant out of a very bad situation and gave her son up for adoption; the couple who adopted him included a woman who struggled with fertility issues. Giving that gift to someone else is the most selfless thing any parent can do for their baby.

Hoooooo boy number 5 hit me hard, how does someone say that to someone? I wasn't expecting it at all.

There are actually people who say “you’re lucky your parents kept you?” You’re talking about a person not a piece of furniture.
@Joliie5 жыл бұрын
that blew my mind! I will tell my ginger friend the next time we meet that he was very lucky his parents kept, they are really nice.

Point number 5 is just so wrong... how can anyone say that?!?! You're right, no one should ever say that. It's actually awful that this has been said to you, clearly more than once. I know if anyone ever said that to me I'd be so upset... so wrong... Much love 😙😙

You would think after 48 years things would not surprise me as much as they do but the ignorance of some people still shocks me. I am glad you are in a good place now Molly, and although my issues are not the same, I can understand some of the struggle. I have severe crohn's disease which has caused me a lot of issues over the years, and left me in pain on a daily basis. I get asked all the time "how do you handle it so well" and I tell people, "I don't recall being given an option". I can look at the glass as half empty or half full. If I look at it as half empty, I'm not going to enjoy the good days and good times I DO have. As I have told my doctors and others, If I let it make me depressed, then it's won. And I will never let it win. Have a great Thanksgiving, (another Canuck here!!)

your words about self acceptance really touched me. I myself have a condition that has no cure and mine is an invisible illness that oftentimes manifests itself physically as well. I am still not completely over the "why me" phase, especially because the on-off nature of this disease, but your word about accepting getting better a different way really spoke to me

I totally understand the “Can I pray for you?” question is completely wrong to ask.
@teresafeltner69475 жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying about a stranger offering to pray for you. I think you are sassy, self aware & beautiful person from the inside out. I have found your videos helpful. I thought i was a sensitive person but after I watched your videos, I found out quick how ignorant I was, so thanks for speaking out. Im able to help my child understand why not to pet a working dog. I've used your video as a learning tool for him. Your parents have raised you well & I'm sure they are proud of you.

Yeah I am pretty sure it will not. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 The only time someone should think about coconut oil is when they make smoothies.............. or when they are on the beach. If someone hasn't heard from a doctor that coconut oil can cure things like Cerebral Palsy or a stroke or even retinitis pigmentosa, why would they believe something like that. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 It is honestly the craziest thing I have ever heard in my life.

I never usually comment on things. But I just HAD to say that your comment about adoption hit me in the best way. I’m adopted and I was bullied my entire life for “not being wanted”. I feel like no one ever talks about it in a positive light. And I am in so much appreciation that you brought adoption up. I have been watching your videos for a short while but I always love your radiance and great vibes and mostly the fact that you bring the truth to everything you talk about. So thank you for being you! 🥰

Bill digs the dirt metal detecting Yes it is crazy what people out in the world will ask. I am religious but when someone who is completely healthy is trying so hard to pray for someone who is disabled it is kind of defeating all lives challenges....................................... and trust me God does not put any challenges on someone who cannot handle a hard challenge. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I have shunts in my head and I have been through over 50 brain surgeries. One of the things the doctors told my mom when I was younger was I would not live to be in my teens. I am 25 and my birthday was July 27. I am truly blessed to be here another day. 💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙 💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜 So yes there are obviously people who say things out of ignorance and people who say things out of stupidity but...................... they are all trying to learn because not everybody knows the right words to say.

FUCKING YES. Sorry, but seriously, I HATE this. I have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos, and when I am in braces/using my cane, people always tell me, "you don't LOOK disabled"/"But you're too young to have joint problems!"/"Oh, oregano oil can cure you!"/etc. No. I have a shitty genetic disorder that puts me through hellish pain, bite me. I'm sorry you have to deal with idiots, too. :(

I’m really glad that you brought up the comment on adoption because I am adopted, and while I was growing up, so many times people would ask me, “how do you feel knowing your parents didn’t want you” and I was already dealing with that in my own head, so for someone to say that outlawed, it scarred me inside and just cemented all of these bad feelings that I had about myself. So, I’m really glad that you touched on that, because it’s never okay to tell someone, that they were lucky to be kept, or that you weren’t wanted

omg yes. I also have a chronic illness and I never thought I would relate to a blind person so much. This makes me think that the experience of having a disability is similar even across very different conditions.

I completely understand the 'can I pray for you' question!! I have celiac disease and people have asked it to me so many times.. I've even had some people at church randomly pray for me when I was younger, without even asking. I see my allergy as a part of who I am, it's a part of my identity and so if someone wants to pray for 'healing' it's almost as if they say that I am not good enough the way I am. At least that's what it sometimes feels like to me. And that's really frustrating. Looking at the comments, I've realized that there are so many people who can relate to this!! It's okay to ask someone if you can pray for them, but just ask "is there anything I could pray for?". That's a lot better than just assuming that the person wants to get rid of their disability or other health issue, if you don't know them. Thanks for being open and honest with us Molly, seems like you're not the only one!
