Doesn't matter what the nature of the relationship is for them to try you - I agree. Happened to me with my best friend, who was a female that I wasn't interested in. Started to disrespect, lie, show hot and cold behaviour, and lack of consideration, so I wanted to be considerate that she might just be going through something weird, so I prompted a conversation multiple times over about a month. Met with excuses not to have it. Cut her off after her birthday mid last month. Immediately after, says she wants to have it. Give her a final chance, but she flakes for 2 weeks. Finally cut her off for good 2 days ago. Again, it does not matter what their relationship is with you, what you've been through together, or how special you think they are. You can believe that it's based on pure care and reciprocity, but they'll always give into their nature regardless of what you think. You have to solve the problem of bad behaviour and disrespect immediately, or they'll never take you seriously. Lesson learned.
