Honestly never dipped a kayak and I would not even attempt because of how bouyant they are... it would be almost impossible to get it to go under the water enough to get a good dip. So I have a question! After you hydro dip you have to clear coat within a certain amount of time? And if so can someone explain why
@AllThingsFunHydrographics
@AllThingsFunHydrographics 3 жыл бұрын
It was explained in the video. Every paint has a certain window of time before it closes. After the paint closes it will not allow clear coat to stay permanently bonded. If you want the clear coat to stay on the paint and not flake off later, it has to be clear coated within that window of time.

Thanks for checking out the channel, and glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. Sadly that happens with film sometimes. Tape is usually the #1 cause of the issues. Try not taping the edges a just cut a much larger piece than you actually need in case the edged roll up a lot. It could be under hydrated film as well. The film has to be kept at 50-55% humidity during storage or else it will dry out and cause the issue you are having, basically its so dry that it absorbs too much water too fast and causes it to wrinkle. Good luck to you, and welcome to the world of frustrations. LOL

@@NOT_SURE.. not at all, i use tap water, I'm from puerto rico, the tap water temp is between 84 to 86 degrees and i use it, the problem is the film, but you gotta work hard in a ways to put it on the water, no matter what i do the film wrinkles so hard, so i put tape on the top and the bottom and blow air with my mouth to make it flat on the surface while the hydrating process, then i put the damns and work it from there, is a headache but works for me...

@@ianfairbanks1318 Yeah no problem... Had to use my cell phone as one of the cameras and it likes to auto adjust all the time when I get too close to it. Kind of annoying but just using what I have.

Should I ever buy a Glock or another semi auto handgun I will most likely want it hydro dipped and since I live in Peachtree City I could drive to your shop.

A stainless tumbler vs a nylon (polymer) Glock Mag extension... Not exactly 1 for 1, no? I mean you're not really trying to claim that identical hydro-dipped parts are more durable than Cerakote? Right?

Just what I had laying in the shop when I filmed the video. But we did a whole direct comparison video on cerakote vs hydro dip if you want to check it out.

I love the video, and I do agree that Hydro Dipping is more durable than most think. But your test is not an accurate one. They hydro dipped area tested was curved and the cerakote surface was flat. Curved surfaces allow the air pressure from the sand blaster to glance off and past by it, while the flat cerokote area tested is flat and gets smacked dead on by the sand blaster. It works the same way aerodynamics do. Which does the wind smack with more force, a flat wall or a curved surface? The same physics apply here. And that's without even considering the possibility of material differences between the mag base and cup. Hydro Dipping is durable, but the test was flawed. A good test would be two cups, one dipped and one cerakoted. Either way keep up the good work. Was just saying the durability test is extremely flawed.

Also theirs the oven cure and air cure with cerakote so that could matter to.

We are going to do a more accurate real world test in the future because we keep getting asked about it... but I am sorry our quick and easy test was not as accurate as you would like. I am not a scientist, aerodynamics engineer, or a rocket surgeon... just a guy who makes stuff look pretty. Next time I will make sure the testing is 100% accurate so everyone will be happy.

It was H series oven cure. The air cure is not durable at all.

@@AllThingsFunHydrographics Love your work. I was just curious on a more accurate test. I agree with the point you where trying to demonstrate and that Hydro dip is way more durable than people think. Was not meaning anything bad by it at all, was just curious of the results if done differently. They very well could still be the same results. I was just pointing out the possible flaw. Nothing is ever 100% there is always a margin of error. Keep up the good work.

@@AllThingsFunHydrographics I did have one question on cerakote too. Coming from the auto airbrush world, do you have to cure the cerakote between colors if using it to airbrush a mural or etc. on a gun, or would it be sufficient enough just doing that step with the base coat? I was just wondering if it actually reflects results. There would be a lot of baking required for detailed murals if it does. Sorry for the long messages. I was just curious about this. And even though its repetitive thanks again for the great content. (I can always email them and ask, but since your active in the comments i figured it couldn't hurt to ask)
