I really enjoyed this series growing up and I had completely forgotten about it until a friend mentioned it to me last summer. I re-watched the whole 26 episode series and fell in love with it all over again. This anime was amazing. I highly recommend watching it all the way through at least once.

My reason for why Samurai Champloo is in my all time favorites is because of the music and the style the show has: As for how it should've ended, I would hope they banded up together and proceeded on more adventures. yeah that's what the ending sequence was supposed to be, they all kinda go on their own paths. Jin travels on his way to wait out those 7 years, Fuu retraces their journey (which can be interpreted as heading back with the old couple at the beginning who said they'd always be there for her), and Mugen kinda has a more ambiguous end but there's a lot of symbolism you can read into like him staring off at the sea

@@DingedDragon Kinda reminds me how Sony didn't want Ellie in the Cover of Last of us. Journey was about her and while she might seem like passive girl who needs rescueing, she was suprisingly active and brave for her lack of fighting ability. She weren't one time wonder for saving Mugen's and Jin's asses, knocking out patron in the brothel run by honorless Yakuza gang and proceeds to escape from it with another girl, drawing out her blade trying ward of attackers, getting tied and beat up and talks back to her capturers *despite knowing she had left companions for good*. She wasn't all-bark-no-bite, or simple teenaged fanservice character. She did great for 15 year old girl with only special abilities that of very basic swindling and great dice rolling - that she didn't use for her livelihood. Edit: Forgot her endless stomach and gag-fast metabolism so she has camouflage essentially.

I think Fuu is technically part of the samurai class as her father was a samurai when she was born. Sure, he'd end up rebelling against the Shogunate and lose that status, but by the time he did so she was already a child, hence she might not actually have lost her title.

This is implied by Watanabe in the show itself he hints it out. In the episode "Bogus Booty" the shogunates right hand mans daughter said "Ill find him once our journeys come to an end" or something along those lines, and she does have the ability and power to track him down. So its implied that Mugens future will be with her as he was obsessed with her. There are other things implied for Jin for that woman he saved that he was in love with. Im not sure but I would have to check I believe he knows where she is going or says something to her as he pushes her boat away and she thanks him. Fuus I forgot I have to watch it again its been awhile. She may not even have anything implied it may be she just continues traveling in a sense. Im a little crusty on my Champloo

I`d think Mugen, Jin and Fuu met each other again somewhere later down the road, maybe when they all were old and had started families, swapping stories about how their lives went after the last seen eachother. Seeing one last sunset together in the twilight of their lives. What I HOPE (to me it`s fucking canon!) happened was that they met eachother like a week after the anime finished in some seedy bar and just continued to travel together damnit. Fuck, what I wouldn`t give for a OVA.

I'm also so glad someone went in depth on how S. Watanabe went in on hip hop, how champloo (chanpuru) is a lot like a "mix" like a Mixtape - especially that 2 part episode that had "verse 1/2". And RIP NUJABES

man u have a *great* video here. I am impressed by your knowledge and your cool humble attitude. ___ I appreciate how u focus on the nature of the show & it's minute details __ rather than stealing the focus on ur own "tv show host" which is unfortunately what too many movie & show hosts often do with their product. *Keep up ur gr8 work* and thanx very much for this...oh Btw -- what do u think Watanabe is doing next??

For me, when they separated at the end it was reminiscent of early in the series when they went down separate paths or tried to split fate always brought them back together. So they did it knowing they would see each other again. Or in the final ending separation they truly didn't meet back up and it was symbolic that they had achieved that part of their destiny. Either way I think the separation was the best and most poetic ending.

I like how you don't talk about Fuu at all. You even say that there's not enough known about her to talk about where she falls in the samurai/champuru title thing. Except we do know plenty about her and where she would fall. It's spoilery but the information is there. And you talked about every little change to Jin but oh yeah Fuu had 19 haircuts whatever. That's just so weird, bro.
@animeballsdeep9 жыл бұрын
+lessoriginal Fuu is an interesting character sorry if you felt I was being neglectful towards her, I didn’t want to spoil too much about her story, as samploo does revolve around her. It wasn’t easy to find all this information but we do miss some here and there, the time of the video was also a factor. Wasn’t intending to be weird bro ;)
@mrdiabetes22948 жыл бұрын
though fuu herself isn't a samurai it is stated that her father is. even the assassin at the end of the show says she has the right to take her on life because shes the daughter of a samurai.. she does cary a tanto/wakisahi as well so wouldn't she be deemed as a samurai? decent video though it was enjoyable but that part tripped me up.
@wackywoohoopizzaman01736 жыл бұрын
@@mrdiabetes2294 fuu carries a tanto a the sizes of the swords go from zanboto, odachi/nodachi, katana/tachi, wakizashi, and then tanto miyamoto musashi used a single wakizashi as his actual sword aside from his extremely large paddle bokken and his dual bokken there are a lot more swords that fall under kendo and iaido then what people inherently think whenever they hear katana they think weeaboos and samurai not expert swordsman then there are the twat waffles who are just borderline racist to anything japanese in terms of weaponry

Okuru the character resembling a Native American in episodes 16,17 gives us the ending without us even knowing. Although at the moment it seems like he is giving her advice to simply rejoin Jin and Mugen- he is honestly giving validity and substance to the reasoning as to why it is best for them ( after finding the "samurai that smells like sunflowers") to go their own ways. As stated by the Okuru when Fuu is lamenting that she doesn't want to continue the journey with Jin and Mugen Okuru states: "Once you have traveled with someone, they become like brothers so you never are alone in this world" So even if they separate at the end- they will never be alone. To add, Okuru himself states that even if his wife and child are dead- they will always be "with him" thus adding to the belief that once you have traveled or spent time with someone although they are longer physically there, their presence will always leave an impact on you - thus poetically - them never leaving you and you are never really alone. Man, I love this anime!

I remember watching this series as a kid about 12-13 years ago and how it made me feel. I had forgotten about it for a while and only just came back to it recently and those feelings and memories came flooding back. It really was and still is an awesome anime that I’ll always hold dear in my heart. Gotta say it makes me sad that it ended and that they didn’t make more seasons.

Great Vid! I learned a few new facts about one of my favorite anime, thanks for the upload! On a side note there was a time in Feudal Japan where "Conscripted citizens" could prove themselves on the battlefield and join the Samurai class (as motivation). But they often lacked the training necessary to succeed, were commonly on the front lines and seldom survived their first battle, or in some cases, became the victim of their frustrated superior.
