Live 3-5 years?! Lithops only become mature enough to flower at 3-5 years, grow slowly enough to remain in the same pot 10-20 years, and can live 40-50 years (varies by species) if well cared for. If your lithops are only living 3-5 years, you’re doing something wrong.
I love my Orchids but I am starting to keep more Succulents. The weirder the better. I just got my first Lithops today. It is brownish/green with cool markings. Succulents and Cacti are really cool plants I want more. Great video.

Awesome video! With such great information, but I have heard because the root words are lithos, and ops. That it would always be pronounced lithops, even when referring to a single plant. I loved the video and thought you'd find that intriguing! Thanks for the amazing content

you sound so passionate about it ^^ loved it !

Don't you think it was the guy who first observed the plant in 1811 who chose a name derived from Ancient Greek, not the Ancient Greek themselves 😅

Great video. Remember however that the singular is still a Lithops. There is no Lithop.

My first lithop ended up dying from something chewing it up a couple months back-several days after I got it. The little guy looked like the brain off of one of the aliens from Mars Attacks. It was a few days later that I figured out that I had mice getting into my house! So shocking and unexpected. I haven't had a chance to get another lithop since.

Hey succulent addict! I've recently became a HUGE fan of these underrated beauties ....and I also became a new sub to your channel. These guy's are truly somethin' else ain't they? I live in Phoenix AZ zone 9 b .....they should thrive here no?... But I don't think full sun here would be wise? Tell me your thoughts please! Also in the ending pic of your lithops you can see dark soil....is that cacti soil??? 🤔🤔🤔

I have three lithops one is grayish blue and the one is a grayish green and the other is green . My green one has grown up threw the first two leaves and they are almost shriveled up . I think they have about one weeks worth of water in them and I will remove them when they are finished giving up their last bits of water and have come loose from the new leaves . The other green one has just started to split and I can just start to see the next two new leaves .

i have a lithops, its called lithops karasmontana... only have it for a month, already peeled the old leaves off, so now i watered it every 2 weeks but just a little... it is wrinkling on one side of the leaf but already water a little and its not perking up 😓 idont know... its my first time ever and i certainly not planning to mess it up 😎 fingers crossed
@SucculentAddict8 жыл бұрын
Hey Indra! That's so cool that you've managed to keep your lithops karasmontana alive, that makes me really happy! Also about your lithops wrinkles, that might be due to over watering. Have you bee watering all winter?
@indrayudhakusuma73348 жыл бұрын
Succulent Addict wait .. What ??? I thought it wrinkle because of lack of watering ... ????
@SucculentAddict8 жыл бұрын
I found a website that talked about wrinkled lithops, most of their opinions stated that the wrinkles could occur due to over watering, some also said one has to be re-potting it due to its slow growth. Again this is just my opinion and what I've read online. I hope your lithop stays as healthy as ever, good luck!
@bluerose117 жыл бұрын
Over watering causes their cell membranes to burst inside and the plant wrinkles up because of that. It is VERY hard to underwater a lithops. If in doubt, don't water. I grow them in Tucson and I water them around three times a year. They can pickup moisture from humidity also. Protect them from an overabundance of rain also. I keep them in pots so I can move them under the porch when the heavy rains come. Also, in The AZ desert you cannot grow them in full sun. They prefer filtered light here. They also do not like the chlorine that is in most tap water. So use filtered or rain water, or water that has been allowed to sit in an open container for a few days.

If you got it as a seedling (1-2 years old) it will probably be another year or two before it is mature enough to flower. Most species flower at 3-4 years, but it can be as many as 5 years for slower growing varieties.

Nancy Marinelli, Don't worry. it won't die. put your lithop back in the soil as usual. the plant will reroot. This has happened to my lithop as well. I accidentally broke the root. 2 years already. my lithop still alive n growing well.

They are Mesembs not succulents. Also it’s always Lithops, so you wouldn’t call one a a Lithop. Their lifespan is way longer than up to 10 years, so I have no idea where you got that from...

Why do Europeans get the credit for discovering it? Its very fustrating that they get the credit. Before 1811 the natives in that region thought they were rocks? Is that what they are trying to imply? Thet we need white people to discover things if not it doesnt count?
