Nice show ! I did have a small collection once until a young magpie took a persistent dislike to them.
@oneoflokis2 жыл бұрын
Why did you keep them outside and not on a windowsill? And why did the magpie dislike them? What did it do? 🙂
@rossmcleod79832 жыл бұрын
@@oneoflokis it’s in Australia and our young magpies, the ones that have been thoroughly humanised, are both playful, inquisitive and given to weird behaviour. I have a small open air, but glass roofed collection of succulents and every time I replanted the lithops, they would be pulled back out and chucked on the ground. Went on for months, I lost heart and so did the lithops, everything else was untouched.

Wonderful video as always! I noticed that you called one species at the beginning "Lithops lateritia sensu"; I think you might have misinterpreted the label. In this context, 'sensu' means "in the sense of [some naming scheme]", so the name of that plant should be Lithops lateritia (sensu Dinter). That said, most people lump Lithops lateritia into L. karasmontana now. I'm always excited to see mesemb content out of your channel! keep it up :)

You are correct we left the Dinter off bymistake,

Why do my lithops not look too happy? I put them in a glass container on my kitchen table, they get plenty of hours of indirect light coming from a sliding glass door…
@johnnyAGardening Жыл бұрын
OK. It depends what you mean by looking unhappy, so without full description or a picture here are a few possibilities. Most problems are from overwatering OR under watering. If thats not it then could these be problems. However once glass becomes involved heat can be an issue, so glass door and glass container could amplify heat. 1 In glass, if the the sun is direct, heat can be too hot. 2..In the glass container, if it is high sided, could the humidity be too high. Let us know if none of this sounds right. Possibly a simple solution would be to transfer them to a ceramic container and renew the potting mix making sure its free draining.
