The time on tour is absolutely mind-blowing. I was familiar with his renditions of the classics, but i am really digging his commissioned contemporary stuff. Thanks for explaining a little bit about the man!

Thank you Daniel, he was definitely a man on a mission. There are definitely other figures in classical guitar history, but Segovia probably has the longest career of all. Take care!

Nice work on this Mr. Alejandro! Reminds me to keep working on Andrés Segovia's 20 Studies by Sor.

Thank you my friend. Those 20 Sor Studies selected by Segovia are great to keep your guitar technique in good shape. Hope you are doing well!

My parents were able to go to one of his performances. He would have had to tour a lot to make it to a small town in Western Kansas. They said someone in the audience brought an infant that started to fuss. Segovia stopped mid song and said he wasn't going to play over the crying and asked the parents to leave.

I am not surprised, I heard that because he was playing without amplification, the public had to be extra quiet. Thank you for sharing that story, I appreciated it! Take care.

The benefits of what Segovia brought to the guitar world far outweighed any supposed negative aspects.

Lots of he said/she said stuff in the comments. if you want to know about Segovia, you must talk to Parkening. Segovia had the right to have his own preferences.

I don't like Segovia at all to be honest. His aim was to bring the guitar out of the hands of the commoner and into the elite ranks of the classical concert hall. ironically he succeeded too well because he's given the guitar a very boring and stuffy image. I played electric guitar for years before a little reluctantly taking up the classical guitar, and I was blown away by the music of people like Sor and Giuliani. These composers could mix in so much emotion into their music, they could even inject a bit of jaunty humor. It was very different than what I was expecting. People like Sor and Giuliani have made me enthusiastic about guitar and there is now a lot of newer and younger guitar instructors who are passionate about teaching. Segovia looks like a bored Droopy The Dog on stage when he plays. Stories about bullying and snobbery at his school haven't helped.

Segovia was a big influence in the guitar world during his time, but there were other great players and composers before him and after him like the ones you mentioned. I love the music of Agustin Barrios and Antonio Lauro just to name a few. Thank you for your comment and take care.

Here is something you forgot---he scorned Barrios by not extending a helping hand when the two met---Barrios may not have been as good a player as Segovia---but as a composer for the guitar Barrios was far superior to Segovia---Segovia will always be diminished in my eyes by not helping Barrios. History now defines Barrios as one of the greatest guitar composers and players----Segovia a great player---but maybe not such a nice person!!!

Yes, absolutely. I am planing to do a video of composers for the guitar in which I feature Barrios. I consider him to be the very best! Thank you for your comment and take care.

Turina, Torroba, Tansman, Tedesco, Ponce, Villa Llobos etc.....all wrote for Segovia....all his publications are beautifully fingered, set up Teaching Schools, Recordings, gave Concerts all over the world...what a nasty pompous little man he was!....😂😂😂😂😂😂

Yes, he was able to convince important composers to write for the instrument and influence many guitarists that came after him. Thank you for your comment and take care.

Quotes from Segovia are part fact and part fiction. Segovia promoted himself and his "story" well. For sure he did a lot to promote the guitar and get it recognized as a "serious" instrument. He did a lot of promotion of the guitar, and himself. For those students who worked with his style he promoted and they did well. He ruined several good players by not recognizing that there were other ways than his to play the guitar well. Indeed almost no one uses the Segovia style today.

Thank you for your comment, I tried to cover some of the controversy around Segovia in the video without overly emphasazing the negative things. Your comment is more in line with what many guitar players think of Segovia at this time. I appreciate your honest feedback. Take care!

I can't see how he 'ruined' people. If people were ruined then they allowed themselves to be that way. Many guitar students are excessively fragile

Yes, Segovia was a great guitarist --- but his reputation for me is destroyed by the the fact that he was a supporter of Franco and the Fascist movement during the Spanish Civil war. This makes Segovia a Fascist guitarist, which is inexcusable for me. I have read many histories of the Spanish Civil war and the crimes of Franco, and his alliance with Hitler and Mussolini, which was the reason Franco won the war. Hundreds of thousands of Spanish people were killed, many brutally executed by Franco. You have not mentioned this part of Segovia's life, and this cannot be ignored. That's why I don't listen to him anymore.

Hi, I am not very familiar with the Spanish civil war, but I did hear that Segovia express his support to Franco in a letter to Ponce sort of quietly. I appreciate your comment and respect your decision to not listen to him anymore. Thank you.

Hi, you certainly have a point that art can be appreciated even when we don't agree with the artist's views or even their lifestyle. Having said that, I have also learned that people are more receptive to other points of view when they don't feel attacked or insulted. Thank you for sharing your perspective.
