Instead, they have a diesel burning heater to prewarm the car. 😀 Also, the PTC heater will turn off when the front heated windscreen is turned on due to the power draw. 😀

Love my 2011, HSE, always a sigh of relief from my local independant LR garage when it comes in for a service. The owner always says hang on to it...best ever and most reliable LRs. On 140,000 will keep it going as nothing else comes close. Great vid.

Hi Ann 👋. We always love hearing from Freelander 2 owners who are enjoying the car. 😀 That's a great specification level of FL2 as well 👌. We wish you many, many more happy miles ahead of you. 😀 - Scott

My favorite facts about the lr2 is 1. At the time of launch, its monocoque chassis was 3rd strongest in the world, only Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover were stronger. 2. double sided zinc coated steel panels for anti-corrosion 3. The bonnet outer lines, water jets and rear seat edge are all indicators for wheel / axle center lines.. Good for trying to figure out wheel placement in rough terrain!

Go for it mate. I got it from aulro forums... Theres a great 101 things list by user RINO3. I first heard of the chassis strength and zinc coating from the book "Land Rover Freelander: The Complete Story" by James Taylor. There's heaps to discover in the book if you're a LR tragic like me. But the forums sum it up really nicely.

Great vid guys! And thanks for the PTC mention! It comes on only if heated screen is off, the car can’t run both at once, too many amps.

Thanks alot. 👍🏻😁 No worries with the mention, I learnt alot from that video and am enjoying the content that you are producing. 😀 I wonder how many amps would be pulled if it was possible to have everything running all at once 🤔😀. - Scott

The Terrain response system controls the Haldex that brings the rear diff/drive into play, it cannot turn off completely, but always supplies about 5% to the rear axle, When the Freelander 2 and other vehicles of Ford origin start off, the Haldex locks up and provides direct drive to the rear axle, this is removed when the accellerator pedal is lessened and the vehicle enters cruise mode on the power train. A later revision of the software brought the Haldex in to about 75% as the issue of failure of the rear diff bearing was common, The Haldex is a pump driven clutch so is always varying the amount of drive to the rear for stability and works with the Terrain Response and ESP systems to maintain a seamless stability and drive off road. It is a very good system for the age. PTC element is not needed when the heated front screen is activated as the sytem is programmed that the HFS is enough to clear the screen, you will probably find the PTC heater is not activated if the screen is not selected on the heater's user interface.

Oh, as you state about the fuel heating system, it's not correct, the fuel returning from the leak-off and high pressure pump goes to the tank via the fuel filter, there is no smart system that decides how fuel is directed as you've suggested, it just has a percentage recuirculates so it warms the fuel, incidentally, this does away with the need for a fuel cooler like a lot of other modern vehicles.
@ScottandAlana4x4

Thanks for all of that useful information, an absolutely fantastic comment. 👍🏻 When we create these videos, we purposely try and keep everything as simple as possible so that people like yourself who actually know what they are talking about can fill in the blanks. 😀 What I was getting at with the fuel wasn't how fuel was smartly directed. It was more that between the thermostat within the fuel filter deciding whether warm fuel enters the fuel filter or goes directly back to the tank and the temperature sensor letting the HP fuel pump know how much fuel to send back that it's a super clever system which most people wouldn't know is happening when they start up their car on a cold winters day. 😀 - Scott

Hi guys - nice video! Have a 2009 SE myself and absolutely love it, the best all round car I’ve owned to date, and I’ve had a few! Does everything really well and easy to work on for any reasonably competent home mechanic. My recommendation is to stick with regular servicing with quality parts especially oil and tyres. Last really good LR. Cheers! 👍

Great video, guys! I did not know any of that 😂 Had and FL1 Td4 for 12 years and loved it, despite it's constant "quirks and features". Always loved the FL2 and know a thing or two about them. I have opted for a Disco 3 though (into the 7th year of ownership now), as I like it more and it fits my needs better. But I think I'll always regret not *also* having a FL2. I think it's the best overall SUV in its class ever made.

Thanks Alex 👍🏻😁. Hahahaha the optional not optional quirks and feature of a Freelander 😂. I think in a perfect world, if we ever purchased another 4x4, we'd keep the FL2 as a 2nd vehicle. 😀

Hi guys, great video, particularly liked the explanation of the tricky fuel filter. First time I've heard anyone talk about it. 👍👍 When I bought mine, the garage serviced it but fitted an aftermarket filter resulting in many journeys in limp mode ( although no fault code is stored for this particular fault ) due to the filter not having the thermostat inside it. Once I changed it for a genuine filter the problem disappeared. So a good warning to FL 2 owners , fit genuine diesel filters only. Looking forward to more freelander 2 content. Cheers guys. 😊

Thanks Badrallach. 👍🏻 The whole wrong fuel filter thing seems to be getting more and more common for some reason, and as you say, it's a bit of a pain to track down what the issue is. 😀 I'm glad you got on top of it though. 👍🏻

Different question, Should you get a small build up of oil around the join from the intercooler pipe,
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 5 ай бұрын
I think that's the joy of exhaust gasses getting sent around the engine for environmental or emission reasons which carry small amounts of oil around with them. 😀 If it'll let me I'll tag @BeavisPits because he runs a catch-can to catch any of the oil residue. But catch-cans cans can be a whole world of pros and cons that I have no expertise on. 😂 - Scott

The big bulge on the bottom of the doors not only keeps the dirt spraying up the whole door but is also the wading depth (500mm) , the bonnet bulge line when looked at from the drivers seat across to a kirb or edge of the road places the wheels about 225mm from the road edge , if your later spec car has a winter pack you can go into the menu and select the wipers to move up and sit on the heating element of the screen so they get de iced at the same time as the screen The rubber strip at the bottom of the door not only stops water ingress but also means when you get into the car there is no mud or dirt to get onto your clothes when getting in and out , if you push both buttons together the folding mirrors close together when the engine is running ( handy for tight garage door openings ) The Freelander 2 is officially the most reliable Landrover ever built ( not saying much I know but I am on my second , 64000 in the first one 114000 in the second) Both mine are the SD4 engines , it doesn’t matter how Iv driven them not much more than 400 miles on a tank of diesel , the second one is the Metropolis spec and it’s as near a Range Rover interior as you can get a lot of the materials taken from the Evoque

Hi David. 👋 10 out of 10 for all of those facts David. 👍🏻😀 I will bear some of them in mind if we do another video. 👌 Having 2 Freelanders is a brave task, but one we applaud 👏 😁. We always like the look of the Metro spec, but they are far too good for us. 😄 - Scott

Interesting but they don't all have the filter heater, mine was purchased new in 2007 22 GS it does not have the heated filter (no connections) also due to early freelanders and range rovers bursting into flames at random, mine was re-called and the PTC was disconnected a month after I had it. however warm up has never been too bad as UK never gets that cold. Great cars however 🙂
@ScottandAlana4x4

Hi Robin 👋. I'm pretty sure all Freelander 2's do warm up their fuel filter as they all use the same fuel filter part number. The warming "feature" isn't electrical, it's just using the return pipe that has warm diesel from the high pressure fuel pump/injector bleed off pipe. The fuel filter itself has a small thermostat on the return side that allows fuel to drop into the filter thus warming it up. When it's up to temperature, the thermostat in the fuel filter closes and the warm fuel then makes it's way back to the tank instead of over warming the filter. 😊 As for the PTC incident, I do remember reading about that issue with the early FL2's. My memory is hazy on it but didn't they then install a rubber gromit or something to fix the issue and allow the PTC heater to then be used again on the early FL2's? But as you say, it doesn't matter too much in the UK. 😂 - Scott

@@ScottandAlana4x4 Hi Guys, Interesting I didn't know that about the thermostat in the filter, I will have to cut one open (I am used my trucks with electrical diesel heater to stop Icing) The PTC I was told the loom was changed, the dealers broke my handbrake gaiter when they took the consol off apparently, they broke loads and I had to wait two months for a replacement. the car warmed up much slower after (Bought in Dec) I have since bought a dealer laptop with SDD software and found a permanent error code PTC disconnected, so doubt they ever fixed it just disabled. next year the old girl is going for scrap probably as tried selling it but even though it's in great condition no interest.🙂

@@robineureka7897 If you search on here for "Beavis Pits", he has a video where he cuts open his fuel filter and does a test on the thermostat. The video is called "Fuel filter thermostatic valve investigation - Land Rover Freelander 2". 😀 It always a shame about dealerships not caring and sometimes doing the bare basics to get a job done. At least they made it safe, despite it being at your cost to the broken bits and feeling the cold for a little longer in the winter. Before you scrap the car, be sure to post it up on the Freel2 forum as there is people keeping an eye out on there. Failing that, if you have a Facebook account, join the "Freelander 2 Off Road Group" to see if there is any interest on there. 😀 I know sometimes interest in these cars can vary depending on if you're near a low emission zone or not as the stuff coming out the exhausts of FL2's isn't exactly sunshine and rainbows. 😅 - Scott

I did not know about the heater. Interesting . My version of electric heat in winter is to turn on the bum heater... aka heated seat. Number 6 you can't drive your Freelander 2 when the muppet owner misses the MOT date.. Doh!

Why does this freelander 2 intake pipe have those extra bits poking out a Above engine cover mine doesn't ?
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 6 ай бұрын
As far as I'm aware Land Rover designed the pipe with those pieces sticking out to dampen down the air intake noise. Although people that have replaced the pipe with a straight bit have said that it's not any lounder and doesn't make any difference. :D

Is it possible, to turn it into 2wd
@ScottandAlana4x4

Hi Daniel 👋. It is possible by either removing the fuse for the Haldex or a more permanent way is to remove the prop shaft. Both will render the car front wheel drive. But take note that you'll also loose alot of the driving and safety aids and you'll also have to let your insurance know. 😀 But I think the bigger question would be why would you want to change a 4 wheel drive Freelander 2 into just 2 wheel drive? 😀 - Scott

Dear people. You may like this Land Rover type. However, is it not what gave inertia to the cost cutting drive for reuse of the base to create all the tar rovers (fancy cars really) like the Range Rover and Disvovery and their sport versions. Welcome to the world of gadget mania and solutions invented for things that are not a problem anyway. Hurrah for old Defenders .

Hello! How do I get my headlight screenwash to work had my freelander ages and never knew how to work it 🫣😂
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 5 ай бұрын
Hi Emma 👋. If it helps, when I first took a Freelander on a test drive, I couldn't work out how to turn the rear wiper off. So you can imagine how silly that looked wiping away on a dry day 😄. Turn the headlights on and then wash the screen as you normally would. Providing the pipes and jets are not blocked, this should spray washer fluid at your lights. 😀 It won't wash them if the lights aren't on or the switch is set in the sidelight/auto position. 😀 I also think it's on a timer system so it doesn't spray your lights every time you wash the windows but I could be wrong about that bit. Obviously, this is assuming that it's not the base level S model that doesn't come with them. 😁 - Scott
