Hi Maverick Joe 👋. As far as forums go, I don't think you can go wrong with Freel2.com . There are some very knowledgeable people on there that really know their stuff when it comes to Freelander 2's. If you have Facebook, then the Freelander 2 Off Road Group (FL2ORG) are a great group of people full of knowledge. There is also the Muddy Freelander group which is the Facebook group of MuddyMods who do maintenance on Land Rovers and also sell a bunch of high quality modifications for the Freelander 2. 😃 - Scott

Can you compare the Falken tyres with the Yokohama tyres, particularly in terms of grip on wet tarmac? Any opinion would be useful as I could not find any comparison of these tyres.
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 3 күн бұрын
Hi Jakub 👋. It's hard to compare the Yokohama Geolander we had that was towards the end of it's life Vs a brand new Falken Wildpeak as it's not really fair. Overall though, there wasn't much in it when it comes to general day-to-day driving on-road. We do feel like the Wildpeaks give us much more traction off road. But again, that could be more down to old Vs brand new. 😃One thing I will say, if someone come up to us and said, "I will give you 1 free set of tyres but you have to pick between Geolanders or Wildpeaks." I don't think there would be any hesitation and we would take the Wildpeaks. 😁 - Scott

Hi Kostis 👋. Until you left that comment, I didn't know there was a difference between the US version Vs the UK. Although I did notice over in your part of the world, you have Wildpeak AT3W, whereas we have WIldpeak AT3wa. Maybe the "a" is what makes the difference between the European version of the tyre compared to the American version. Other than that, I have no idea why there is a difference. 😀 Thanks for highlighting this, though 👌😁. - Scott

I watched a show review from last year's show, and it seemed to be all about the defender ( could have been the reviewer, though) This year's show ( having watched this) was more my cup of tea...not so keen on the original defender as it too compromised for comfortable road use. It was nice to see so many freelander's etc. I can see the show from my bedroom window so next year I shall endeavour to visit the show. I'm currently looking for a freelander 2 to launch my rib boat, as my now ex 5 series BMW (just written off by a lady that didn't understand what a giveway sign was) 😊 I do like my comfort in a motor....do you have any advice on which spec to go for? Truth be told, my absolute ideal car would be the L322 but I just don't get the time to dedicate to such a maintenance Hungary vehicle as I'm away all week in my truck. Nice video of the event btw.

Before I even saw your comment, I first saw your name and my first thought was, "nah, it cannot be THEE Fast As Fox! It's got to be someone with a similar account name." After looking on your KZbin, you are actually, THE, Fast As Fox! 😁 I used to watch and follow your channel "back in the day" when you were driving a rigid and enjoyed the content you were putting out. How are you mate and how's life been treating you? 😃 Moving onto the show. I cannot put my finger on it, but for some reason the Freelanders, Evoque's and that kind of car are somewhat of the "ugly duckling" of the Land Rover show. They are accepted, but very rarely actually acknowledged. I think people get confused by them and want to put them into a box, but never know which box they fit into. Are they a proper off-roader? Are they just a school run car? Are they just a run-of-the-mill runabout car? This is why our channel is here to hopefully show that the Freelanders and Evoque's of the world have their right to be called a proper Land Rover and should be celebrated far more than what they currently are. 😁 Even in the club arena, Warren from MuddyMods got asked, "what was your highlight of the weekend?" and that was it! The guy then walked off! No mention about the car or anything. 😂 By bedroom window, do you mean in that big castle on top of the big hill that we all take pictures of when it's not raining? 😂 If we get picked to be back on the stand next year and you do come along, hopefully we can meet up and talk about old times and I can bore you to death with Freelander information. 😁 As for Freelander 2's. What I will say is that they will need some maintenance doing to them. If you watch our "what to service and when" video, you'll get an idea of what is involved. One thing I will say in their defence is that sort of maintenance will probably need doing on any 4 wheel drive car. At the end of the day, most 4 wheel drive cars still have an extra diff over a 2 wheel drive car that needs looking after and a more complexe drivetrain as a whole. The thing that makes the Freelander 2 slightly different is it's slightly unique drivetrain with a PTU at the front and a Haldex at the back. Keep a Freelander 2's maintenance up to scratch and they are an absolute dream to drive, both on-road and off-road. The spec levels can very quite widely as you can get the lower trim levels that have been spec'ed up when new, or you can get high level trims that have no optional extras, so can seem a bit, almost basic for a high level car. My advice would be to test drive a good few and pick up on bits that you do and don't like on each one. If you want bells and whistles, then look for the HSE trim level. Or if you can find one, the Metropolis. I think that's the highest trim level Land Rover did in the Freelander 2. If you want any more information about Freelander 2's then let me know because I can go on for days. 😂 - Scott

@@ScottandAlana4x4 Small world 😁 First off I do live in the castle ( you just spat your tea out didn't you) well a two bedroom cottage at least 😁. I have lived in the Vale since 1998 and I think it's a great setting for a Landrover show. like I said in my previous comment, I do like the old defender to look at, but if asked to use one to drive to Cornwall, I think I would sooner use a space hopper... more comfy 😆. Imagine a big show with all landrover vehicles and several part's vendors....dedicated to the Landrover brand....how good would that be ! I'm still driving trucks but I'm now class 1 and work mainly with flatbed' s ( tramping ) 10 year's nearly. My BMW struggled on some of the steeper boat ramps and I wouldn't even attempt a beach launch with it. I do keep looking at the Range Rover l322 but they are too technical and I guess I would spend many a precious weekend working on it....I don't mind as I'm pretty handy...but I just don't have the time. And this is where the freelander comes in. Having watched several videos of you and your pal's taking them properly off roading, I'm confident it would be all I need in a motor. My father-in-law lives at the other end of the Vale and is disabled, so it would be great to be able to get him in a freelander...and get him out and about. Thanks for the advice pal and I will hopefully see you next year....all the best foxy.

Hi Matt 👋. I think this was his first time doing the V-Gully in his standard height Freelander 2. Someone told him that momentum is the key to getting up the other side, which is kinda true. Unfortunately, he might of carried just a little too much momentum up the other side and got some air time as you can see 😂. While it might not be the perfect way to do it, it certainly made for some spectacular viewings for us all 😅. I'm sure the next time he does it, it'll be a little more sedate 😁. - Scott

Hi Guys I came across your video in a post on a LR forum. I don't know if you'd be able to offer any advice but if you can I'd appreciate it. I have a Freelander SD4 duesel and the steering has become very, very heavy when trying to manoeuvre when parking. And today it was heavy when turning when moving. I have no mechanical expertise and someone said I need to get the pump changed. But would you say it's best to get the reservoir changed first to see if that sorts it? Thanks in advance if you are able to answer.
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 15 күн бұрын
Hi Paul 👋. If it helps, both Alana and I have very little mechanical knowledge so we are in the same boat. 😅 My advice would be to change the fluid and the reservoir at the same time to start with. Once you've done that, inspect the old reservoir as best as you can from outside the reservoir looking in to see what state the mesh filter is in. The reason I say this is because if it's full of gunk, it's either the fluid being really old or it could be a sign that one of the rubber power steering pipes is breaking down internally which they like to do. You'll soon know if it's a pipe that is breaking down as it'll fill the new bottles mesh filter and block. That then leaves you in an awkward predicament on whether to try and clean the mesh filter of the new reservoir or to buy yet another new reservoir. 😅 (We did the latter of the 2 options 😁) Even though my advice isn't worth all that much, I'd start on the cheaper and easier path of changing the fluid and reservoir and see how you get on. 😃 Just make sure you can manage without the car because if it's anything like our situation, our power steering was working fine before changing the fluid and then pretty much not at all after changing the fluid which then meant we had to change the pump. 🙈 If you need the car, you have the funds, and your cars done about 150,000 miles on the same pump, you could do a "hell Mary" and change the fluid, reservoir and pump all at the same time 😅. As a side note, if you do come to do the pump at any point, make sure to get the right one as our friend Michael was doing his last night, only to find the pump was the wrong one... Hopefully that helps you out a little bit. - Scott

Why do you recommend the spacers to go with the lift kit?
@ScottandAlana4x4

Hi Marco 👋. Just like on a lot of cars, the wheels and tyres on the Freelander 2 are inset into the arches to catch all the dirt and water that sprays off. Once we installed the MuddyMods lift kit, it made it obvious just how much the wheels and tyres sat in the arches. So to compensate and make the stance of the car look better, we installed some wheel spacers from MuddyMods. Go to File > Make a copy. Hopefully this will make a copy onto your account for you to edit. Failing that, go to File > Download. Although I'm not sure how well the sheet will work when it's opened up in different software. 2. Once you've got a copy that you can edit, enter your current odometer reading into the box and enter the dates and milage of when you last carried out the jobs in the sheet. The sheet will hopefully update and tell you what jobs need doing and when. 3. You can change the service intervals to your own preference if you don't like the sample ones I have put in. 😃 Hopefully the sheet will help. 🤞 - Scott

Hi, great review, can you give more information on wet road braking performance, this is a notorious weak point for AT tyres.
@ScottandAlana4x4
@ScottandAlana4x4 23 күн бұрын
Hi Some Dude 👋. On a day-to-day basis during general driving, we haven't had any issues with these tires in wet conditions on the Great British greasy roads. 😁 Although I'm sure if you did a braking test with these verses, a high level pure road focused tire, the road tire will win. But as soon as you go off-road, you're going to be in trouble. 😃 For us, you'll see that we do a decent amount of off roading. So we are willing to give up a bit of on-road performance for the greater off road capability of a tire and that's where this tire is a great middle ground if people don't want to or cannot afford the enhanced premium of the BF Goodridges. Both Alana and I drive quite defensively when we are on the road, so I don't think we have had to do a full on emergency stop at any point with these tires on. Although Alana generally leaves her braking a little bit later than me, so she uses the brakes a bit harder. I don't think the ABS has ever jumped in to help her out in the wet where the tires have given up. 😁 Hopefully that answers your question a little bit? 😃 - Scott

@@ScottandAlana4x4 Thanks for the details. Michael's Freelander 2 is pretty much standard height due to the weight of it. 😁 Overall, it was mostly lifted FL2's. I think a lot of people might have been put off by the mud run due to how much water there was and not being able to see the ground surface under it. 😄 Last year, the best time to try the mud run was on the Sunday when all of the water got shoved over to the other side, so it made a nice path for anyone to get through. 😀 This year, the surface under all of the water was actually quite smooth and wasn't too rutted, which was a surprise. I think any Freelander could've made it through if the commitment is there. 😁 - Scott

Hi Stephen 👋. I'm not a trained mechanic so take my words with a pinch of salt. If it's complaining then it's probably best to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Is it something that will destroy itself in the next day, week or month? Probably not. 😃 Best case scenario if it does give up the ghost, you'll just get a slack belt. Worse case scenario? The belt will break, take out some sensors and plugs, smash the cambelt housing and cause irreparable damage to the engine. 🤣 While you're there, I'd also swap out the idler pulley and do the belt if it hasn't been done for a while. It saves coming back to that area twice or three times. 😁 But that's just my advice. I'll hold you to that, and I've set a reminder in my diary, "Tell Mr RJB to book tickets for Muddy Weekender." 😉😁 - Scott

Thanks a lot Luis. It's always a lot of fun filming this event. I enjoyed watching Alana's footage back from the crazy antics of the Mud Run on Saturday. 👌😁 - Scott

Interesting video thanks. My FL2 wouldn’t pull when hot, dangerous in heavy traffic at roundabouts etc. I’ve just had my filter changed by an LR specialist mechanic, he said that a budget after market one had been fitted and it didn’t have a thermostatic valve in it which was causing the problem. A point worth noting if your followers are doing their own servicing or even check what your local garages are fitting. Mine appears to have let me down, I only had it serviced three months ago with a new (wrong) filter fitted. It’s now cost me another £250 to get it sorted!! Beware who you trust?

Hi Kenneth 👋 I have pinned your comment so it stays at the top of the comments. I just want to add the following for anyone else that see's this comment: Important: Buy Genuine LR/Purflux/Bosch/Coopers Filter! Part number: LR001313 I'm not sure how these manufacturers can get away with selling fuel filters that are 100% not fit for purpose for the Freelander 2's. It really baffles me sometimes. 😁 - Scott

2014 Freelander 3 or 2013 Touareg 3.6 a better choice in term of reliability? thanks

Hi Banterdose 👋. I'm going to assume you mean a 2014 Freelander 2. I kinda wish they did a Freelander 3. 😄 We have only had experience of our Freelander 2, so in our very biased opinion, we would have to pick a Freelander. 😁 I think Darkside Development has made an overlanding Touareg. It looks incredible! The biggest downside for a Touareg at a guess would have to be day to day running costs and the size of it. 😀 The Freelander 2 can be a bit on the wider side compared to the Freelander 1 when offroading, so I dread to think how much fun you could have in a wide car like the Touareg. 😁 As a final note, Freelander 2's are as reliable providing the owner is willing to do the maintenance needed for them or book it into a place that actually understands Freelander's and get them to do the work on the owners behalf. 😁 - Scott
