Really enjoyed that and learned a lot more about my car. I have a nice 2011 HSE SD4. Not done any off-roading as such driven across a field or two and regularly on badly pot-holed tracks especially after the Cymru Rally have been through! What protection to the underside do you add to do obstacles like the ones in this video?

Hi Emmanuel 👋. It could be a number of things that could be at fault. It may sound silly, but make sure the prop shaft is in place as garages have removed props to "cure" problems 😁. It also could be that the splines within the PTU have stripped, so no drive can go to the rear. The Haldex might also not be working, and without a working Haldex, again, no drive will get to the rear wheels. That's a few things that jump to my mind as to why no drive would be getting to the rear wheels 😀. - Scott

Hi Sean 👋. Providing the tyres don't protrude outside the arches, then there are no MOT issues at all 😀. Not only have we gone from a 235 tyre to 245, we also have 30 mm spacers on which bring the tyres pretty much flush with the arches and there have been no MOT issues at all. 😀. - Scott

Almost identical as what I did with my facelift 170 in August, exact same wheels but I went for General Grabber AT3 tyres, all from 4x4tyres.co.uk. I did push the fitment to the limit, going for 235/65/16 as research had suggested that the American brands come out undersized on overall diameter, which proved true as they're 27" like the Michelin Latitude Cross tyres I had on previous steel wheels which were 215/65/16 - the 235s should be over 1/2" bigger but thankfully not, they're as I envisaged. The extra width does cause some rubbing at full lock but they're wearing in...! Also brings the sidewall out exactly flush with my wings which looks great. A note about wheel bolts - black do indeed look better with the Tuff Torque wheels and are what I bought with them - more importantly the correct ones from 4x4tyres also have the right profile to fit the countersink in the steel plate, the original Skoda bolts having a rounded rather than flat mating face to fit alloys and standard steels, whereas the Tuff Torque wheels have plain countersinks rather than the standard slightly bevelled. I did look at the Falkens myself but preferred the Grabbers and also Goodrich KO2, which I couldn't get in the right speed rating as the 170 Yeti top speed is officially 125 thus the tyre speed rating must match or exceed for MOT pass. The Grabbers are also rated twice the minimum required load capacity so little chance of stressing sidewalls when cross-axled on twisty lanes. I haven't yet got the sump guard though and have fluked some rocky lanes already. I meant to sort that before changing the wheels but got fixated on the wheels. 🤣 Good to see that the Darkside guard fits well, definitely still on my list. I do still have a heavy steel guard from my old Octavia Scout which I did ponder modifying to fit but the facelift Yeti is just a bit too different, would've been more easily modified to fit my old pre-facelift 140 that I used to explore with in Northumberland. Great channel guys, enjoyed everything thus far including the Freelander stuff and looking forward to Yeti adventures - I've a few on my channel with the 170 in current form and some from my old 140. Also really nice to find others who love the Yeti as much as me - best road car I've known while also surprisingly good laning and off road! 🙂

Hi Autistic Adventures 👋. Top job on going to the extreme end of tyre size fitting a 235/65 into the arches! 😁 Thank you for taking the time to explain the wheel bolt differences to us 👍. We are just holding off buying any at the moment because we still don't know wether to put some Darkside wheel spacers on or not 🤷‍♂. I think we are just on the correct side with the tyre speed rating on our Falkens being 130mph. Thank god it doesn't go any quicker as that would've scuppered our plans just a little with those tyres 😁. We have used our sump guard waaay too much on our Freelander 2 to not make it the first thing to fit on the Yeti 😂. Really appreciate your very detailed comment and we will have a watch of those videos over on your channel when we get a moment 👍. - Scott

Thanks alot Bigger In Japan. We both really appreciate your comment 👍. The reason Land Rovers get a bad rep for being unreliable is mainly down to people not wanting to put the money in or do the research in to know what bits need maintaining. 😀 Plus, Land Rovers' service schedule didn't help matters with important bits being missed and service lengths being a bit too long apart... 😁 Freelander 2's are very reliable if the various fluids are changed at resonable time frames. The only thing that cannot be avoided is age related issues that you get with any car as it gets older 😁. It really is a shame that the Freelander 2 wasn't kept in production for another few more years 😀. Enjoy your Freelander 2 car shopping when you get around to doing it 😁. - Scott

@ScottandAlana4x4 thanks, it's been on a few laning days and done very well, I might put some more footage up as I have loads more. I have also just bought a Dacia Duster to do some laning in as the lift on the Skoda still isn't quite high enough and the bumper overhangs too much, the yeti will be much better for this. You planning on doing laning?

@Mikey850t5 I have subscribed to your channel in case you do upload any more footage 👌😀. We were toying up between a Dacia Duster and the Yeti. One of the reasons that tipped the scales in the Yeti's favour is that a Skoda should be easier to do the odd maintenance job here and there. 😀 All being well, the Yeti will be used for green laning and the odd pay 'n play once we have got 1 or 2 more jobs done on it 😀. - Scott

@ScottandAlana4x4 awesome, I have just put 3 more vids up with some wheel lifting. The ground clearance and being able to lock the diff sold the duster for me, it's going to be lifted more and bigger AT tyres very soon. The haldex on the Scout has been so impressive though, not sure what generation haldex yours is, mines gen 5. I love it when I've been told the car would never get through the lanes and it does it as with no dramas! Such a good feeling!!

@Mikey850t5 Just watched those shorts that you put up. It looks like you were having a lot of fun. It almost looks so wrong, but yet so right for a Skoda to be offroading like that 😄. I'm not sure where abouts you are located, but you seem to have some quality lanes to use 👌. From what I've seen from Adam the explores videos, the Dacia Duster is a very capable car when it's taken off-road 😀. Our Freelander 2 has the Gen 4 Haldex, and the Yeti has the Gen 5. The Freelander 2 is another car that people laugh at and don't expect it to do very well when it heads off-road. 😁 We look forward to surprising a few people when we take the Yeti off-road 😄. - Scott

Hi Charlie 👋. Freelander 2's are amazing cars IF looked after. So much boot space to make them super universal, can tow a decent weight if required, and has a VERY good 4-wheel drive system. 😀 The biggest issue with them is a lack of maintenance by previous owners. If you head over to our channel and watch the video "what to service and when on a Freelander 2" it'll give you some idea what needs doing to keep them happy 😀. Our Freelander 2 has never left us high and dry when we have been out about so far (touch wood) but we always put maintenance above modifications. 😁 - Scott

The easiest way to disable the 4 wheel drive system on the Freelander 2 is to remove the Haldex fuse. Although this will display error messages every time you turn on the ignition on. The other option is to remove the prop shaft from the underside of the car for a more permanent solution. My question out of pure interest is why would you want a 2 wheel drive if you plan to tow? 😀 The Freelander 2, for the most part, runs in front wheel drive and only runs in 4 wheel drive if it senses any wheel slip. So if anything, it's good to have the 4 wheel drive system for if you were to ever need it. 😁 Sorry for the late reply. It has been super busy for us recently 😁. Hopefully this reply helps. Feel free to reply to this if you want any more information 😀. - Scott
