My Pyrenees/husky mix was diagnosed at the ripe old age of 3. She was limping- we did radiography... She was on joint supplements, Rimadyl, and Tramadol as needed. I recently switched her to a new joint supplement, Glyde, which also has Green Lipped Mussel in it. It works GREAT! She's basically off her other meds at this point. I do need to work on her weight. It's hard to tell if she's fat, or just needs to be brushed because of all of her fluffy hair!

Very helpful. Thank you. I think my four month old puppy has hip displasia and am taking her tomorrow for an X-ray. She and her two siblings were dumped in our village at 6 weeks, and ran up to me as their savior(!). I am trying to rehome them as I already have two dogs and can’t afford more, and this condition is bound to hamper my efforts. It is so sad, and so common in this country (Cyprus) - and so shameful.

Our Border Collie x Australian Shephard has been diagnosed with double HD at the age of 2 and a half. She's had a total hip replacement 3 days ago. She's on a good regiment of pain meds, but she's almost back to her old self. The cost of the surgery was 4500 euros, but absolutely worth it. The Orthopedic surgeon ensured us that she'll be good as new and will even be able to practice sports again, which she absolutely loves.

I had some folks share with me their story of a dog they had that had hip dysplasia. They switched the dogs diet to almost all raw and lean food. Then had it going hiking walking uphill, and the dog showed dramatic improvement. This was a young dog though. I have a 7 year old female pitbull terrier who has hip dysplasia and arthritis really bad. She is pretty lean, and she is given supplements. I have still watched my lil fur daughter go from full of fast life to really slowing down. I wish I would've known what this was years ago then maybe something better could've been done. The vets around here tell me she's too old for surgery. I know there's been times getting her carprofen and or tramadol has helped her. It definitely hurts to see her hurting she's the sweetest dog you'd ever know, and my children even consider her their sister. She's so good natured in fact that in my neighborhood she runs free without a collar, and every neighbor loves her. Even the dog catcher anytime they have ever come around leaves her alone because they love her lol. She stays just on my road though and always hangs out with the neighbors. She's an inside dog she just goes out to run around playing and to potty. Really calm and happy dog with alot of human like qualities to her personality. She's something, but if there is anything else that anyone knows of I could try to help my babygirl feel any better please let me know. Thanks yall.

I have a mixed breed Pitbull/Great Dane who is suffering from hip dysphasia but he just turned 15 years old so I shouldn’t be too surprised. I’ve kept him lean and until recently played ball but have had to stop. I’ve purchased online a harness for his back end, hopefully when walking him I can assist. Although he’s very old except for his back hips he’s in very good condition.

My 10 yr old GSD was diagnosed with dysplasia at 2 yr. Recently a lumpectomy on the back of his right wrist seems to have made him noticeably slower but otherwise all his other vitals are normal and he has no other health issues!!! I have been told that this is because of his daily (used to be) 1 hour walks ( which now take about 45 minutes more - he lies down several times to rest which I understand and support) ALWAYS in a forest, ALWAYS off leash and at his own pace. His diet includes dry kibble and wet canned food, hemp oil, powdered tumeric, coconut oil, MSM and kefir. Since his surgery 6 weeks ago, I've been giving him CBD oil and just started him on glucosamine which I'm hoping will contribute something to his overall feeling. His weight at surgery was 120 lbs and I've have been trying to cut back on his overall intake of food but he is very good at manipulating me out of the boiled chicken hearts, gizzards or chicken meat that I cook and freeze!!! Honestly, I believe it's the daily exercise and soft bed he has that's kept him this healthy but I listed the nutritional supplements in case that helps. (and yes, he gets Large breed kibble - apparently one needs to be mindful of the protein content when it comes to GSD's. Too much and it gives them diarrhea.) Thank you for your video

I hate for a dog to be in pain but hearing that yours was 10yrs old and could still get around is heartening. Hope all’s well for him still. My 2yr old Pyrenees mix got diagnosed yesterday. His outlook seems to be optimistic. Slight hip dysplasia in his left hip. Vet said keeping him at his current weight, adding a joint supplement, and switching out his reg food for a large one will help him stay healthy.

@@scarlettg.5772 Oh my! Lots has happened in the last year - specifically, that from about April 2021, I have been taking my Cooper swimming which seems to be very helpful. Additionally. I supplemented him with Devil's Claw and Natural Eggshell Membrane until I was introduced to BETTER stuff. Specifically Curcumin Plus + Boswellia . I had him on four Curcumin Plus daily but then I read that Boswellia really improves the efficacy of Curcumin when taken together ( with food. ) This is really helping. He does however suffer from fecal incontinence during the night and sadly I haven't found anything to prevent that ( but it's only at night). I follow Veterinary Secrets with Dr. Andrew Jones ( on KZbin) This incredible human who is also a registered, professional Vet, now teaches about organic/holistic suggestions/products. I highly recommend his videos!!! BTW: I found out that dogs are lactose intolerant (!!!??!!)) after all these years!!) so I switched to lactose free cream cheese and lactose free cottage cheese!!!!! HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!!! I wrap the "soft gels - Curcumin and Boswellia) in the cream cheese (!!) so Cooper only needs to swallow!!! Finally, how's your sweetheart doing? If you save your fresh eggshells ( rinse and dry then pulverize) he'll get his glucosamine, chondroitin and other minerals without you having to buy conventional tablets. Another suggestion I tried, but aren't keeping up ( although it's good) its to make jelly from boiling chicken feet, letting it cool. The gelatin helps with joints. Chicken feet are good raw or cooked, too. I wish you and your baby nothing but improvement and the best!!!

@truecynic1270 Жыл бұрын
@@HkFinn83 Yes, the vet didn't think he was actually PURE bread. He looked like GSD but was very, very calm and so became a registered Therapy Dog with TPOC once he was a year. Sadly, with a broken heart I tell you, he was euthanized on April 27, 2022 because of his hip displasia and Degenerative Myelopathy. I just couldn't pick him up to help him and he WAS in pain. As the wise say " The only time a dog breaks your heart is the day you lose them." I can only dream I might see him again. And because I read, somewhere, that a dog's temperament is only 7 - 10 % of how they are born, the rest being their environment and how they are raised, I adopted a 6 month male GSD from a reputable breeder who breeds for temperament and companionship so I have a focus and a new love but will NEVER EVER forget my Cooper.

All great info! I think it is important for people to get xrays even if their dog has no symptoms (at an earlier age). Catching it early is the best, the ideal situation. Our vets did not catch it in our boy and he is now 11 and it's become a big problem. I am sad to think my boy has gone all these years in pain, masking it, and us not knowing it. He really did not show any signs. We had his DNA profile done about 6 months ago and he is 39% Great Pyrenees and about equal parts Chow, Rottweiler, Saint Bernard, and Beagle. He also has a small percentage of Dutch Shepherd. I believe the DNA test goes back to Great Grandparents of the dogs. We have always had our boy on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplementation because he is 110 pounds and large framed. He has been taking Omega 3's for several years now as well. We actually thought he was about 2-3 years younger than he actually is due to a recent second opinion on his age and hip health by a different vet (for hip surgery). We have had him for 6.5 years....

Our Karachacan is 1 1/2 years old and has been diagnosed with HD. We have currently had him to 2 specialists to have him examined. We are going to 1 more just to make sure we are making the right decision. We are being told he should have total hip replacement on both hips. 15000.00 ouch!!! but if that what it takes to give him a good quality of life then we are willing to do it. We currently watch his weight, give him joint supplements, cbd oil daily , and gabapentin. The gabapentin is for seizures as well (poo fella). We have another like him but she is showing no problems with her hips. All in all, he does really good except for he wants to lay around a good bit because if he does too much it takes a toll on him. He does not limp but you can tell it hurts him sometimes to walk. I am going to look into the supplement that has the Green lipped mussel in it too. Cross our fingers, we go for our last evaluation in May and then make a decision. The the recoop time is crazy long too. We love our boy though and want to be sure we have exhausted all of our options before making a decision. Good luck to all who are going through this.

@@zombiesatemaybrains we did have the surgery on 1 hip in June. The surgery is the easy part, the recovery time is what is hard. But that being said, the surgery was a success. We had to keep him contained for 6 months. No jumping no running and he has been in a crate and on a leash the entire time. He is doing great and he now can play and run. Be sure it is not just arthritis. Our boy takes 1 gabapentin a day, but he has seizures too so that is why he has to take that. I hate giving him chemicals but I want him to live his best life ever. They suggested to wait on the other hip to see how he does with the repaired one. Good luck with your baby, I hope all turns out OK. 🤗🤗🙏

I bought a golden retriever puppy from an AKC breeder. Foolishly, I believed being AKC meant she was healthy. She has been plagued with health issues since I brought her home. Sadly, at 5 months old, she has developed severe hip dysplasia. I contacted the breeder and she refused to give me a refund but offered to take her back. I refused because I knew she would only resell her for more profit and not disclose her condition to the next buyer. People like this who only care about profit and not the breed should not be allowed to be breeders. Please, do your research and buy from a reputable breeder who does OFA hip testing. It's worth the extra money in the long run. I wish I would have.
@joseymour25743 жыл бұрын
You should report the breeder to the AKC. They will want to know in order to protect their name and dogs in general. Let them know what your dog's registered name is and the kennel name. They will have it on file and will record the hip dysplasia incident for anyone else checking up on the breeder before buying. Too many incidents and she will lose her membership and standing. Did your contract say you'd get a refund or only that you'd get a new puppy from them out of another litter? It's one or the other. If you did not receive registered papers with a pedigree for your dog chances are the breeder lied about being a member of the AKC. That is a law suit.
@HkFinn83 Жыл бұрын
It sounds like you were as responsible as could be and did your research, and still...😒 sorry you went through this, but it doesn’t surprise me. The issue is with dog breeding that the lunatics are running the asylum. The Kennel Clubs and their unscrupulous veterinarians are the same people who allowed and encouraged the breeding of unhealthy animals. The dubious ‘genetic screening’ they purport to enforce is useless. Things like hip dysplasia are not a genetic disease that can even be screened for. It’s a genetic predisposition caused by ludicrous standards of acceptability of the animals actual morphology. Let me vent here for a minute as I doubt anybody will read this anyway😂 but my favourite breed was the German shepherd dog. These used to live full healthy lives and die of old age at 18. Now they’re dying of old age at 8 or younger, with myriad health problems. They were originally 50-60lbs dogs. Now they’re routinely over 100lbs. By definition they’re unhealthy and poorly bred. The kennel club did this intentionally. Some genius decided a grossly oversized dog with a sloped back should win ‘shows’. Shame on all of them and all the unnecessary suffering they have caused.

Other options: 1. Platelet-rich plasma. 2. FDA-approved injectable medication Adequan. Most importantly...as was emphasized in the video, is weight loss. And if you don't have pet insurance...get it ASAP. If your dog is young and problem-free, your premium will be lower. If you wait until your dog has a problem, it's considered a pre-existing condition and insurance won't cover it. 30k worth of vet bills for my lab (cancer, knee surgery x2, etc...mostly covered by her insurance.
