I don't know about that, but I do believe dying is better than going into a nursing home.

Question: I have a friend who is now eligible for both part a and b. They are employed full time and have insurance through their employer, though it has a fairly high deductible. If they only signed up for part a and had to be hospitalized, would part a cover the cost of that deductible?
@TheMedicareFamily8 ай бұрын
Part A has a $1,600 deductible but pays the rest of a hospital stay

I recently discovered that I'm not eligible for medicare part A because I didn't pay enough into it. I will only qualify because my ex spouse had the credits.Why do you keep saying that part A is free. What about those who retired from jobs that didnt require payment to medicare?
@notapplicable99708 ай бұрын
I believe she stated that it's "free" BECAUSE you've been paying into it through your employment. So it would make sense that if you weren't employed long enough, you wouldn't have paid into long enough.
@fattjaxx8 ай бұрын
I was employed for over 35 years and received a city pension. I never paid in to Medicare. Therefore, Medicare part A is not free to everyone, and I think that fact should also be addressed as I was not aware of it until recently.
@notapplicable99708 ай бұрын
@fattjaxx ah. Well, that makes sense. I guess the city never offered the option of contributing to Medicare? That stinks. 😕

Do I have to pay for part B if I have retirement insurance with my union? Thank you mama love you guy's!!
@sherrih63758 ай бұрын
I have Tricare for Life and she still said, yep, PART B only. I hope it helps you...
@jtax248 ай бұрын
You should contact your union's health and welfare office. I'm a retired Teamster turning 65 soon. My local automatically contacts members a few months before they turn 65 to explain insurance options, which they did for me. The union offered a plan which supplements part B and includes prescription medicine coverage. The union supplemental plan pays for what part B does not. This union plan is also much cheaper than any supplemental plan I could've gotten on the private market. Again, contact your union's office. Hope this helps. Good luck!

@@jtax24, my husband is a retired Teamster (UPS), too. We’re both on his retired-version of health benefits, for which we pay a small premium ($100/mo.). I’m 63 now, but he’s only 57. So I’d better follow your advice soon, thank you.
@jtax248 ай бұрын
@@kimrodriguez1698 UPS here also! At 63 you still have plenty of time before thinking of medicare, and maybe a union sponsored supplemental, like I'll have starting next month. A few months before turning 65 have your husband contact his union local's health and welfare office. Good luck and good health!

It DOES NOT cost $177.00 per month for Medicare Part B. The $177.00 per month ONLY PAYS 20% of the Monthly Premium. Please put out the correct FULL information.
