This is a great explaination. When I find myself missing shots or not getting the position I want after the shot, I'll just take the cue ball and hit it down to the far rail and wait for it to hit the tip of the stick while maintaining the tip in place at the end of the stroke. No L/R spin. i'll go thru the same routine as you are showing here until I can do it 10x in a row. Once I've figured out the problem(s), I'll modify the drill for L/R English. It's also a great way to play a lot of shots at the local pub on a quiet afternoon for free. Well, except for the cost of a few pints of aiming fluid.

Thanks for this video. I was requesting this topic 👍 I play pool for 8 months daily now and still can't make my stroke feel natural. Whenever I try to think less about the brigde, the elbow, the upper arm postition it seems I miss every third shot. I find it hard because there are so many variables and every player has a different stroke style it's frustrating because I have a plan to runout but I fail because a ball rattles. When I saw how your stroke looked a couple of years ago it gave me a motivation boost 🤣 I guess I just have to continue practicing small angle and straight in shots with different speeds to get my stroke right and finally feel natural so I don't have to change and think and change and think... This is the best pool channel for me. Your're a big help.

For some reason never clicked your videos despite youtube recommendations. I guess because I got cocky, figured I knew all the usual advice. But I really liked this video. I can see why your channel is popular, you explain things well. Tired of stalled progress, I know my stroke and PSR need work, so I'm going to make an effort to pay attention to this stuff. Cheers.

Another great video! Very Helpful! I would humbly like to add 1) The follow through and the 2) Stay down! I like to hear you have put so many years work into your stroke. I have too! And over time it gets rusty and I have to clean it up! I wonder do you have any videos on "your vision center" (which is different from your "dominant eye")? You are Legend! Thank you! I've been your fan for years and you have many fans in my areas I've played too! Please keep it up! Edit: also do you have a thought on timing and rythem?
@charlesmertes3109

I have one ;timing and rhythm comes from confidence and belief in your pocketing and positional playing ability,it's not something you can teach by itself.test it for yourself by setting up unmissable(?)shots and pocketing them with smooth confidence.you now have rhythm and timing🎉

Hey Shari, is it true that for pool players, mood really does effect how you play and sometimes, there's just bad days where you don't play well at all ? I feel like this sometimes and some days when its really bad my stroke isn't even straight, feels like a newbie again.
@cungifungi
@cungifungi 5 ай бұрын
It is a highly mental game, yes. As easy as it sounds that you need to "stay in the game" the whole time, that is the challenge all pool players face. If you start thinking too much and lose focus, you will inevitably miss and play bad unless you pick yourself back up
@Sharivari
@Sharivari 5 ай бұрын
Hey Jeremy. You're absolutely right, and I totally get what you mean. The connection between our mood and physical actions is deeply rooted in how our brains and bodies work together. Here's a bit of insight into why this happens: Good mood enhances concentration, crucial for precision in pool. A bad mood can scatter focus, affecting accuracy. Emotions impact muscle tension. Stress tightens muscles, disrupting the smooth movements needed for accurate pool shots. Mood swings affect strategic thinking. Positive emotions lead to better shot choices, while negativity can result in poor decisions. Confidence, influenced by mood, affects your risk-taking and trust in your abilities. Low mood can cause hesitation and doubt. Anxiety or stress can hamper the fine motor control necessary for pool, leading to mistakes. Positive emotions boost energy, essential for sustained focus, whereas a negative mood can drain energy, affecting attention and stamina.

Also you shouldn't be aiming when you're down on the shot, that should be done as you stand over the shot, fine tuning as you come down on the shot, and only then micro fine tuning when you're down.

Sharivari you really have to learn to hit center ball instead of compensating when accounting for throw via sidespin.
@zachsnyder5444
@zachsnyder5444 5 ай бұрын
Outside spin is the overwhelmingly most common shot in 9 and 10 ball so I would argue using spin to help compensate for throw is smart for some players who regularly play rotation games. Even in 8 ball there are very few situations where center ball is objectively the better choice over using outside english

Can you add when you shot what shot you play with back hand or front hand english not just spin you play

Although I am in 95% agreement that a smooth stroke starts with preparation, planning and solid shot-after-shot mechanics, there are, of course, exceptions. Look at Grady Matthews (RIP), the guy who played in The Color of Money against Fast Eddie. In real life he was a professional player specializing in one pocket and won titles. Horrible, short poke at every ball; very difficult to watch him play, and I thank my personal God that there aren't many playing like him.

Hmm, I can't even remember how many shots I've made with one hand. Just so I don't have to grab the bridge. Or how many times I showed off and looked the other way at someone I was playing while I made the shot. I think I'd make an awful coach.
