Good video Ron! I think today most players are overwhelmed with drills and not really sure how they should be practicing. These drills seem practical and conducive to actual gameplay. Thanks 👍🏻

I would love to see a video from you about realistic practice expectations. Since taking up pool again I find I am almost obsessed, but end up playing about two and a half hours at least five days a week. In the beginning I showed lots of improvement because I was so bad at everything, but then it settled down to a plateau, where I felt stagnant. Then suddenly ratcheted up my “game” a good deal, but the next day I’d be back where I was. Steady improvement though in the end. But, I’m realizing a lot of drills, and instruction are actually pretty advanced, and I tend to get my expectations up and try to do too many new things. Tried the continuous spot object ball drill, it was eye opening. I guess what I’m getting at, from now on I think I’m going to plan each practice with NEVER more than three different goals. I have that drill now as one, where I will keep track of the count of how many I can do in a row. The second thing is just plain working on draw shot control (including stop shots and stun shots with low hit on the cues ball) and then a book I have with exercises. This even may be too much, I’ll figure that out. It may be that I ought to simply devote the 2 hours to ONE exercise, and then the half hour extra…just play and see what effect it has on my playing. But would love to hear your take on taking on too many goals at once. I’m also considering going WAY more basic and simply setting up the same three balls (as you also show as a practice thing) and really predicting/controlling where the cue ball goes. I get a little confused sometimes also on when you have a fairly long shot at an object ball, to make the cue ball really hit three or so rails when one uses follow or draw. That is a big question mark for me.

@@ronthepoolstudent Thank you for your response. I learned something today during my practice. I have been having difficulty in making long shots when the object ball is 6 or 7 inches or more from the rail and the cue ball may be about the same but at the other end of the table. Today I was trying to pocket an object ball in the right corner pocket. Out of frustration I figured I would try a little left spin on the cue ball. I made the shot and several more on both sides of the table. Needless to say I was encouraged. I will study the videos you sent. Again thank you.
@ronthepoolstudentАй бұрын
@@jackslover107 yes, outside spin on a cut shot helps throw the object ball into the pocket. It makes it track into the pocket. It negates cut induced throw or the plowing effect also known as collision induced throw.

I know they are boring but as you get better at them im sure they aren't boring anymore.
