It's easy to pick up a cinema camera and use it like a stills camera that shoot video, but you might be setting yourself up to fail. More at www.canonmasterclass.com

All great suggestions. Also, there a lot of black frames in this vid. Mostly directly after text fade.

Good video. The card you point to at the end of #1 for your master class course does not appear.

You have to use an external recorder with Sony FX cameras if you want RAW. Sound is the only point of failure issue I have ever had and thats supposed to be scratch anyways. Sync with timecode.
@queefreak6663 ай бұрын
That's ridiculous. And people try to bag on Canon, which has been recording internal RAW since 2019.
@andyk9393 ай бұрын
And you can shoot backups on the body. So literally zero reason to “not record externally”. Imagine owning an fx3 and telling client you cant deliver 12 bit because a guy on youtube said so.

Those are interesting points you made, I’ve heard of people having trouble on deleting files on camera; the take/shot wasn’t good they deleted in camera, it caused issues on the card making impossible to access other remaining footage, I can’t say it was memory card itself or some coincidence, but I never delete footage or anything before go to computer just to avoid any sort of trouble.

I run a Canon 18-80 on a Canon C70 full time and make a great living with it. My KZbin channel is shot entirely with that setup. Great kit from Canon!

Sometimes you have to use an external monitor/recorder (e.g., Atomos Ninja) to record RAW or ProRes. That's what they're made for! Just also use internal cards for backup, and inspect and make sure everything's in working order before the shoot, which you should always do anyway.

how about don't shoot without warming up the camera sensor and then doing a black balance? that's a tip from one of the Panasonic EVA1 tutorials that I use

Side not: This channel always has the sharpest, cleanest image anywhere on YT. It's really noticeable. Why is that? Yes, he's a pro. I get it. So are lots of other creators.

Thanks! I over-sharpen and add contrast to the image in resolve, knowing that the youtube compression softens it.

Regarding point number 2, I know you meant "variable aperture", but you said (and wrote) "variable zoom", which is likely to confuse people who are not familiar with the terms beforehand. But also I would push back a little on the reasoning. The image does not get _automatically_ dark because of zooming in. It only happens when you start with an aperture that is not supported at the focal length you'll get to in the end. The fanciest and most popular lens in high-end nature documentaries is a variable-aperture zoom from Canon that costs $70,000 USD, would you tell the BBC and NatGeo they're using their cinema cameras the wrong way? 😉

Exactly. If you're shooting outdoors, it often doesn't matter if you're not getting f/2.8 or f/4.0 at full telephoto. In fact, it probably becomes more important to have as much depth of field to keep your subjects (especially fast-moving wildlife) in focus.
@queefreak6663 ай бұрын
Commonly referred to as "ramping aperture", these lenses were never intended for video.
