Obsessing and doubting my myself, while also experiencing little to no anxiety at times has been very confusing for me, since I normally experience A LOT of anxiety. I’ve made a lot of changes to my health that I think helped lower my anxiety overall, but it’s also caused this new found doubt about my feelings…. Oh OCD… 😅
@zwangsweise_zwangsfrei Жыл бұрын
yep.. even when you do ERP more consistently the anxiety decreases. THEN you have OCD thoughts with no anxiety it can be very difficult to realize is OCD.. but it is still OCD with not that level of anxiety.. so don't doubt your *new* feelings, it's just OCD in a sneaky way
@TheCrayonMan529 Жыл бұрын
Yep that's why you still label it as OCD. Thoughts comes in "this is my ocd" "this is my OCD because my brain has a small glitch" "since it's my OCD, and it's my brain having a small glitch, I can disregard the thought as nothing but a thought". Remember, everyone has intrusive thoughts.

I sometimes wake up feeling great about starting the day and about my life. Then I have that feeling: "Is really everything OK? Am I not missing something?" Then I find stuff that is not "perfect", that might lead to problems, that my mind tells me I need to analyse and think about. Then I can spend hours doing that before actually starting the day lol.

I was having so much suicidal thoughts 18 years ago as a teenage. I suffered severe anxiety and mental disorder years ago. Got diagnosed with OCD. Spent my whole life fighting OCD. Hey Nathan, thanks a lot for this amazing content. I've been living with OCD on & off for the past 7 years (the first 2 years were by far the most hellish) and I recently got back in a deep hole because of a small mushroom trip (I know, what was I thinking?). Anyhow, thank you for reminding us of what happens in the mind of someone who has OCD, it's life saving. And to everyone going through this, I can say that there is light at the end of the tunnel so hold on. I've been almost OCD free for the past 3 years (until that shroom trip which I did because I felt "cured" and much better). So there is a way out but this time I won't take it for granted ! Hi Nathan, hope you’re well. Not sure if you’ll even see this but I really struggle with real event OCD and trying to problem solve things that are completely out of my control. Im 20 years old and when you were saying how a person with OCD can tend to make up stories and jump to conclusions, this has been one of the most negative thought patterns I’ve had for years. I know you were saying that flipping the thought around and looking at it as “who cares, maybe, maybe not” is a good tactic, but I still struggle with this. I was wondering how to properly implement this skill in my life. It’s been getting better, but I still really struggle with my OCD and reoccurring ruminations (even from a couple years ago) which I can see is kinda affecting my school and relationships. Thank you.

OCD is genetic or somewhat learned/inherited from parents but it pops out as a miserable illness if the person is exposed to a stressful environment (bullying, stress, competitiveness, failure...). I remember having OCD since childhood (just right, symmetry...) but has never a problem until it spiraled down into anxiety and depression. Severe depression. Because I couldn't achieve nice grades in some subjects in school and had issues with my classmates (those stoopid mor0ns). I struggles throughout my bsc and generally in life. If something was deemed as difficult no way I would engage in it. If the professor told us, my exam is hard I wouldn't even open the book. I stills truffle a lot with self paced courses because they make me panic about the exam and just cannot get myself to study. I procrastinate a lot and I am internet addicted (IG, yt). So yeah I can't say I live on easy mode. Remember, what's easy for you might be impossible for somebody else.
