5 TIPS ABOUT LAMPS - Interior Design

Hello! I hope you enjoyed this video about some of my top five tips on lamps! The most common mistakes I see are lamps that are not correctly scaled or are out of date. Lamps make all the difference! Lighting is so important! Choose what you love and light up your life!
And, I'm serious about that lamp remote! I have them for my home, office, and we use them in the shop so we can quickly turn all the lamps (we have approximately one million haha) off at one time!

I am the same way about symmetry in the bedroom and each side of the sofa ( I know a lot will disagree!) I love lamps! I love being cozy comfortable feeling they give at night vs having a ceiling light on. I got a gold lamp that had a crack in it for free so I filled the crack with caulk & used makeup sponges to dab black, brown and beige to make it look like stone. Love your videos 👍❤

Hi Jennifer, we have those remotes. I even use them on my Christmas Trees and Christmas Lights, absolutely BRILLIANT invention. Must admit, I do have most of my Lamps in the Lounge, switch on and off with Alexa too. LOVE your videos - many thanks, Linda x

Also, I would like to clarify something I said in the video. When I mentioned the lamps covering part of artwork or a mirror, I am referring to a lamp being on one side. I have recently become a lamp addict in the last 6 months. I wish I could show you pictures. I saw one today from a thrift store that was made of prisms. It's about 24" high and I need a shade. I only do thrift stores as often as possible and I do a lot of making over. Cast-iron is excellent. Stainless steel is amazing. I'm now discovering glass and prisms and you name it. I've been a clock enthusiast for many years. The bigger the clock the better I like it. If you can do a show on large wall clocks that would be really cool. You have a new subscriber

I have always been a lamp lover myself! Years ago when my kids were young my husband & I would buy & resell lamps & my husband would rewire them if they needed it. Our best one was a large white marble we got at an action that nobody wanted for $2.00! We turned around & sold it for $98.00! My husband is looking for ways to retire now, so thanks for posting this, as I'm going to tell him this is one thing he could start doing again! Be sure to take your lamp with you when purchasing shades. It's so much easier than returning shades. I love lamps and when watching vintage TV or movies I always check out the lamps. The hanging lamp in the Draper's sunken living room was also featured in a Bewitched episode in a hotel when Darren (York) was away on business. Mad Men fifty years apart.

Maybe try choosing a buffet lamp that is narrow, but still tall. That way it doesn't block a lot of the window. :)

onthe Wrightpath I dust the shades with a dry microfiber cloth. Helps get all the dust off with using any liquid. Good luck. 😊

I am in need of a new shade for my most favorite lamp of all time ...the original shade was squished and ruined by movers many years ago...and then my daughter threw away the frame...The lamp is a very tall bronze contemporary. ..and the shade was black...narrow at the top and gradually became larger at the bottom...like a tall skinny cheerleader horn shape...I continue to be heartsick...over it...and then...found you today on KZbin ...loved your video... have renewed hope now...could you please direct me to your shade guru...or if you design and make shades for your business and shop...? Oh my gosh please give me some advise. My husband is a true teddy bear and would love to have ceiling fans in every room. Any suggestions on combining ceiling fans with beautiful lamps in bedroom? Dining room? (Maybe I can talk him out of the dining room) What about a foyer or entry that has a vaulted ceiling so their is a dropped fixture when you enter the door but then there is also a dropped ceiling fan in the living room area ?

Hi Lisa! You can absolutely combine lamps and ceiling fans, in fact I recommend it! For your bedroom, put two lamps on your bedside table and perhaps one on your dresser. This will provide romantic and calming light. For your dining room, two lamps on the buffet are the perfect touch!

Loved your tips! I too have done brass-to ORB make-overs on lamps. Need to try Chalk Paint on some of my dark ones. Thanks! Oh, my favorite one is the fire extinguisher. I bought a copper one second-hand years ago to turn into a lamp. I love table lamps, they give the kind of dramatic lighting you find in an old Hollywood movie. They flatter everyone and throw soft interesting shadows all over the room. Lately it seems that designers like harsh, bright lights without a traditional shade to light a room.. The light is hard, flat and the rooms they are in lack dramatic values. Yes, table lamps for me.

Jennifer is there a rule about the size of shade for the lamp? Is it supposed to cover a certain length on the lamp? I was hoping you would share that.

Annette Biering that is such a great question, and I have never been asked that before. I honestly think the shade needs to be at least a third bigger on each side of the base. Hope that helps. 😊🌸

Hello there! I painted my lamp with Chalk Spray Paint. Once it was dry, I gave it a coat of polyurethane! So easy!
