This is very common to the system of training in Australia. In Australia, welders start their career by doing an apprenticeship, working for an employer and attending TAFE (government run vocational college) once a week during school term. The reason I say it is similar is because through the apprenticeship we are taught how to do MIG, TIG, MMA and FCAW, and then assessed on each, in all positions of welding. Once qualified by TAFE, and after working one additional year you get qualified as a Cert 3 tradesman, which qualifies you for most fab/welding non-pressure jobs (the majority of work in Aus). Certain specialised work requires a Cert 4, which is twelve months and gives you a general ticket (AS1796) allowing all welding on all projects.

Boilermaker here. I honestly wish tube welding was more prevelent in tech schools than it is. When i went to welding school tube welding was never covered.

8:50 for security in a boiler system... their has to be particulate trap modules before and after various parts in the system. so if that dingle berry gets cut out and falls gown the tube... as the system runs when finished, the screening modules catch it all including normal rust accumulation within the system. screening sediment trap venturi modules, all flat position high amp welds on a large rotating table base.

there are lots of boilermaker positions that get to go home every night - maintenance work on coal fired powerplants for example... you might not be doing boilermaker work everyday but your getting paid boilermaker pay so get it when u can

I've never seen a restrictive dog/jig for a tube test so that's pretty cool. For the structural hands they are having them test stick, mig and flux. In the field I've only ever ran stick and dual shield for structural so why are they requiring mig now?

You dont always have the option to weld one side in one go. We always go 1/4 of the pipe from right to left, and the rest 1/4 left to right, and then we go to the other side of the panel.
