If Zoom isn’t paying you to do this demo, they should. THANK YOU!! I’m a legal videographer adapting to present day reality and this is exactly what I needed explained. I think the days of 4 or 5 people in a conference room downtown w me at the end of the table w an HD camera & 4 channel audio mixer are over. Old dogs have to learn new tricks. Great info here.

Shar S Hey thanks for watching! Those ones are pretty good actually if you wanted an all-in-one solution such as earbuds. The mic on those is quite good. The best quality though would always be an external xlr mic.

BUT what mic are you using in this video because that sounds the best. A lot of USB external set-ups like Scarlett have this mildly chunky compressors sound. It's not horrible but I use and Audient and some L&R mics and that sounds very natural. Still curious mic YOU are using in the video. Is it a video mic like Rode?
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 3 жыл бұрын
It was a while ago but if I remember correctly I used a wireless lav. A rode go I think. Audio fidelity is going to be better though as soon as you feed it through zoom it won't sound as good as a video or an audio recording.

Wow, great informations. Could you please clear my doubt, that is what kind of speakers should you use to listen to the other participants properly in a zoom meeting. And how to avoid feedback/interference of the speakers audio into your microphone. I mean how to avoid your microphone catching the speaker audio output.
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 3 жыл бұрын
The easiest way is to use headphones. If you use speakers, try to have them facing away from your mic although zoom has improved a lot and is usually decent enough in toggling between speakers/mics.

Very good. Would of like to have heard the audio using an external webcam. Probably something that is popular and common such as Logitech C920, C922 Pro or BRIO 4K. I never gave thought about audio suppression that was part of Logitech camera settings or Zoom. Thank you. I agree to some extent without getting too pricy that a USB mic generally would sound better to your audience on Zoom or Skype than the built in mics on a webcam.
@MarioSoMedia

Yeah an HD webcam will improve the video quality but HD transmission would still be dependent on bandwidth and internet speed. A USB mic is the simplest solution to get good quality audio. Thanks for watching!

@MarioSoMedia

Are you using a mic that has the two rings or three? If it has two, then you need an extra adapter that goes from the two to three. So you'll need a 3.5mm trs (female) to trrs (male) adapter.

how does the sound comes out if we are using the audio interface? do we plug in our headphones to the laptop or the focusrite audio interface?

Hi! You can do either. You can plug in your headphones to the interface via a 1/4" adapter (amzn.to/3cbdtPe). Or just plug directly to your computer. You can select which audio output you would like to use in Zoom's audio settings. Hope this helps!

Awesome thank you. But do you have to use headphones to hear the other person on the call? In other words, if you're using your speakers, won't the mic pick up their voice and screw things up? Or is there a way to isolate it so the mic will only pick up you? That doesn't sound right but I really want to know because I want the sound of others in my room and not in headphones. Thank you. The blue yeti looks and sounds great!
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
Yes the blue Yeti is a great option! Great question. The best thing to do would be to face the speakers away from the mic and have the mic face you in front of the speakers to reduce feedback as much as possible. A directional or shotgun mic would be a great option since they would only capture sound wherever the mic is pointed towards. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mario! I'm looking for good audio in Zoom meetings (without any DAW) and bought the "Audient ID14" - and want to use the microphone in mono mode so that it drives both channels (left and right). ... but unfortunally in Windows 10 Lenovo let me only select the ID14 mic channels 1 / 2 together (not separately) so that my microphone only through one speaker stereo channel. Would that mono mode be possible with the "scarlett 2i2" or the "Native Instruments 2" without any DAW? And how much worse would the sound be? thx M
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching! I don't have experience with the Audient interface but is there a reason why you would like it in mono mode and not stereo? If it's for online meetings, I don't think that would make much of a difference.
@martin4rgc

@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with you that it doesn't sound as good as it should. That's because the test is feeding the xlr mic into Zoom and recording the audio from there. Zoom does some horrible audio processing BUT that video was more than 8 months ago and I notice Zoom's audio processing has improved quite a lot since then. In my opinion though, the XLR mic still sounds the best out of all of them. Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Mario, why does Zoom compress audio files if it's only trying to suppress background noise? Also, by compress does that mean reducing the actual data output?
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I don't know why Zoom compresses the audio but it may have to do with faster data transfer over the web. I'm not quite sure. Yes it reduces the data and quality.

If you are on a newer iPad Pro, the built-in mic should be quite good. The quality would also depend on how far you are from the iPad. yeah unfortunately that's what it is. Zoom has its limitations. You won't be able to exploit that blue snowball's quality to its best on zoom.

I have bought an external condenser mic with a 3.5 mm plug for use on Zoom but can't get it to work Thinking a USB mic might be better. Wgat do you think?
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
You'll need to make sure the mic doesn't require phantom power or that it's is TRRS. For use on a computer you're better off using a USB mic unless you have an external USB interface to plug your mic into.

So I did a zoom meeting, shared screen to do KZbin group workout. They couldn't hear well. Tips?
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
If you have background music it's probably best to use a lav mic or a headset mic so that it can be closer to you when you speak. I would also enable original sound to see if that helps.

@@MarioSoMedia Thanks for replying. I have a bluetooth speaker that I put close to the tablet speaker (which is where I played the video from) but that only helped marginally. How do I enable original sound? I really appreciate your help!

It could be many things but internet connection comes to mind. If you're using a webcam maybe check that it is working as well. 👍

How far was the Snowball from your mouth when speaking ? I'm looking for something that can be 2 feet away from my mouth. Maybe a shotgun mic? Thanks!
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
Not too far. Maybe like half a feet. I am also editing a video of another budget friendly USB mic I got to review and I'm doing distance tests with it. If you are in a quiet place, 2 feet is definitely doable. An alternative is to get a mic stand and a longer USB cable to your computer so you can bring the mic closer to you. I'm releasing that video of that other mic next week if you would like to check it out. Thanks for watching!

@@MarioSoMedia Thanks Mario! I just ended up using an SM57 and SM58 through an interface through ZOOM meetings and it sounds great about 7"-12" just in front and below the mouth. It also is a dynamic mic which makes room noise almost inaudible. Thanks!
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
Yes the SM's are great dynamic mics! Great choice. If you have an interface I think xlr mics are the best way to go.

Can you use an external microphone while using stereo SPEAKERS for sound? (No headphones) Does the mic/Skype ignore the audio feedback from the speakers? I'm trying to have a headphone-free Skype for Business videoconferencing setup.
@MarioSoMedia
@MarioSoMedia 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but you need to play and balance your set up a little. You can try getting a directional boom mic so it picks up sound mostly in the direction it's pointing, angle out your speakers so they're not point directly at you or the mic, or try balanced the input volume of your mic with the output volume of your speakers, a lower setting usually does the trick. You could try that. Hope this helps! 😄

@@spamman916 I have a Blue Yeti and it has multiple pattern settings such as cardioid, bidirectional, omnidirectional and stereo.The cardioid pattern helps reduce background noise from behind the mic.

First tip: Put a high-pass filter on your audio, early in the audio chain. The sound, here, has very heavy low-bass rumble. If you can't hear it, you need better headphones (or speakers). Second tip: Don't use background music. It distracts from what you're saying.
