I have my Top 5 tips which would've helped me a lot when I started (no particular order) #1: This game has a great community and usually people are very nice and helpful so don't be afraid to ask. Tip #1,5 join the Discord of your favorite Content Creator for those questions ... even though I just said it's a nice community I still would not recommend global chat (at least not Global 1 which is your default global chat channel) #2: Don't play a built because it "can do everything" and in general be very mindful of clickbait (especially now in EA and later at league starts). What should always be the number 1 priority for your built: Is it fun to play. Righteous fire is a good example, the skill is not extremely powerful (it can be pushed with a lot of investment but it's not ideal - especially for bosses) but it is very much enjoyed by many - because it's a very relaxed playstyle (provided that's a playstyle you enjoy). #3: As you step into trading, be aware that over the years a certain "etiquette" has been established. If you are buyer, you're expected to teleport into the hideout of the other player. While this is a simple rule to follow, keep in mind that sometimes, people are in a town and expect you to come there. But in essence, you go to them - it's not a delivery service. Also, bring the exact amount of currency with you, you don't want to keep them from playing longer than needed, don't grab the currency from the stash when they're already waiting. After the exchange has concluded find the time to say "ty" or "t4t". #4: There is no shame in "going" back ... if the map you're running takes too much time, you're not efficient - your gear is not what it should be, go back, farm slightly lower tiers (but more efficiently) until you're ready. I don't know how big maps are in PoE2 compared to PoE1 but in PoE1 metrics, it makes a big difference if you spent 10 minutes in a map or 3 ... #5: Keep one thing in mind - especially in the beginning of EA (maybe that changes in the future) but the Ascendancy is both, a very important and a very final decision. Make very sure, that what you pick is really what you want - if you're unsure, let people in Discord (#1) what playstyle you were looking forward to and hopefully you'll get some tips. Bonus Tip: Do not give up on the game because you're "overwhelmed" ... I gave up twice before I finally fell in love with PoE1 and I'm so happy I did. This game is going to brutal at times and also in some aspects a little complex. But if you push through, stick with it, really give it a chance, I'm very much convinced you'll fall in love and before long, you'll sink in thousands of hours. Edit: OMG, I should've read the other comments (so I guess it doesn't matter that I forgot but yes - definitely (imo) the most important tip: play at your own pace and don't compare your progress/gear etc. with that of streamers) ... unless you enjoy being frustrated.
@legi0n47x
@legi0n47x 8 күн бұрын
Good list. Similar to what I have experienced in a couple other games. I won't lie, I'm placing too much stress on the ascendency choice already. I can already see that some of them will likely be much stronger later on with gear and passives. But am afraid of that slog until I get there when the other choice seems straight forward, strong, all around choice producing less stress. I plan to take a real look at what I'm actually using and how I'm playing because I don't have the degenerate playtime I once did.

i mostly agree of what you said but I'm not sure on what you meant by playing "efficiently". i hate this word when it comes to mmos as it does suck the enjoyment as it makes you feel fomo and you're lagging behind, i know this is EA but is there a reason why we need to rush to endgame, will there be raids?
@MoistYoghurt
@MoistYoghurt 8 күн бұрын
@@dafootah35 efficiently probably means using like 50 guides and going meta builds when no one knows whats good or not, also as far as I know there isn't raids in poe 1 so there won't be in poe 2. The issue with new games is that people just like to blast them when they come out, then theyre like oh I've finished all the content in 2 weeks when they havent slept that entire time. But please meal prep and have enough sleep if you intend on blasting poe 2. I'm a casual player so I won't be blasting the game at all. ALSO, please don't take time off for the start of poe 2 itll most likely be laggy from the large influx of players and there other unexpected things that could happen
@Ad0rak
@Ad0rak 8 күн бұрын
@@dafootah35 No, as I explained (or I thought I did) ... For example: If you need 9 minutes for a more difficult map (which arguably has more rewarding drops) but you only need 3 minutes for an easier map (with slightly less rewarding loot) it still might be better to do 3 runs of the easier map in the same amount of time as doing one run of the more difficult map... i.e. don't push into more and more difficult maps hoping to get better loot - especially in PoE2 were dying is more punishing as in PoE1 - even in SC. Hence the phrasing of my 4th point: "There is no shame in going back" - meaning, running lower tier maps even though you have access to higher tier ones.

Tip one is a blatant lie. As soon as you mention you also like D4 (because god forbid) you are cussed at and named a heretic. If anything it has the worst community ever. Anything else than POE is bad according to poe players and the somehow feel superior to anyone else. Hence where the D4 Bad meme came from.

@@zemis824 extra tabs of storage to keep items in, and POE being a very loot and crafting heavy game will have you needing a place to store currency, may items, and all sorts of things. I have about 6k hours in poe1 and the best tip imo, because its annoying as fxxx if people dont know it, if you want to trade there are 3 simple rules. 1. buyer goes into sellers place. if you want to buy something from me, i'm fine leaving a map for it, but i wont travel around and i'm not gonna wait for 15 minutes till you sorted out your currency. and if you want a change, ask for it beforhand, most people will do 2. buyer waits till seller opens the trade. seller will hurry anyway most times, but having to fish out the item and popping out trade windows dont help, its annoying. 3. no matter if buyer or seller, always, ALWAYS check if you get the correct thing you want. most of the people are nice guys, but dont let you scam by somebody a "t4t" or "thank you" doesnt hurt btw :) happy trading :)

My biggest tip for new players is knowing there is both character progression and player progression in PoE. Your character will grow in power, but you as a player will also grow in knowledge. I plan to check every single map side quest and chase bosses for gear and levels. Being over leveled and properly geared is such a huge difference compared to being below level with trash items. I'm going to just take my time, listen to all the dialogue and get lost in the world. Ctrl Clicking on the zone entrances will let you make a new instance so you can farm some areas for extra loot. I wanna find some of those dead ends Jonathan was talking about with rare chests lol.

Been around since beta of Poe 1. The best advice I can give to new players is even though things can be overwhelming just do the best you can to do what is best for you, not everyone has the same line of thinking even when it comes to builds, they are varied and complex. Just have fun and enjoy the content. Last but not least, research is your best friend. Trust me none of us are perfect, but I suggest at the very least look at guides/videos that will be helpful for understanding mechanics and other useful things. But above all have fun!

Stats on items to chase, when you don't know what you want EXACTLY, but wanna upgrade in early game: Weapons: ADDED damage. "Added" damage is always better then "increased" in the begining. Further you will need both of that. Damage that MATCH your skill tags. Every skill has tags, like "Attack", "Physical", "AoE" etc. That's how you understand "will it buff me or not?" Plus level to ALL *tag* skill gems. For example, if your skill has physical tag and your weapon has "+1 to all physical skill gems" your skill will be buffed. If you you have multiple of them, ALL of them will be buffed Crit, attack/cast speed doesn't matter in the beggining at all, but if you have them as bonus to plus damage, then you have better item C: Boots: Movement speed. Faster you go - easier the fights will be for you. Ezier to dodge, ezier to clear locations Charms: Most crucial 3 are anti-stun, anti-bleed and anti-freeze. First two are crucial because it's hard to tell sometimes that it was the thing killed you. Freeze you can see easily, but it's long enough and annoying. Every other item: - Life. More life you have - less random hits from npcs you care about - Resistances. For first time collecting them your idea is: bigger number is better! After that you see how much exactly do you have trying to "cap" them, info about it in your character screen. Stats like rarity, stun *something*, armor, evasion, even energy shield, light radius etc. are not worth because it's hard to stack them enough.

Tip number one from my experience is "reading is the most important skill to have" You may think skimming is fine but wording is very particular in POE so make sure you read the full text of what you're looking at. I've even seen content creators, even Ghazzy himself :^), fall into traps because they don't read a skill, map mod, tree notable, etc fully and understand the wording. Second tip is to familiarize yourself with the terms presented to you in game: more/less, increased/decreased, penetration, conversion, hit, taken as, etc. all of these terms mean something and most of them seem to be underlined with added context available in POE2 which is fantastic! Take your time to read these and understand them and they will help you understand why people make builds certain ways and the ways to help advance your character on your own if you want.

You won't know what these buckets are at first, but things like stacking block chance with your armor/evasion in PoE 1, or taking nodes or items with "more" affixes goes a long way, and you'll learn other things like this over time, just keep an eye out. @@terrodar19 Don't worry about that too much man, get in there, and smash monsters dead, that's like 90% of the game. Running around and smashing monsters. Basically, in laymans terms and casual talking terms, take many types of defense's not just one. For example, build life, armor, and block chance, don't just focus on one type of defense, thats it. Don't rely on just one form of defense is the main takeaway.

Best Advice for PoE 1 and by extension, take a minute read the abilities, there's a big difference between 10% spell damage, and +2 to 6 (elemental) damage. One will boost spells and the other adds the effect to weapon hits.
@gasman555
@gasman555 8 күн бұрын
So does that mean every one of these 'flat dmg' modifiers are actually adding to weapon dmg? have never played PoE, so just clarifying.
@chupasaurus
@chupasaurus 7 күн бұрын
@@gasman555 If a modifier doesn't have "to spells" it only applies to strikes and slams for melee as well as shots for ranged weapons. In PoE1 skills have 2 multipliers: one for base damage and separate one for those "added" bonuses up to 500+%, so yeah, reading is helpful. In PoE2 those nuances probably have tooltips in-game.

best tip i can think of: don't be afraid to experiment for yourself and the campaign is not your enemy, use it as a gauge of how you are doing it should be challenging but not feel impossible. (this might not work for niche builds that require level specific items and progress but as a new player you wouldn't want to dabble in those ^^")

My tip is less is often more, especially in the early game. Do you want 6 level 1 skills or 3 level 2 skills dealing more damage? Levelling skills is just as important as acquiring new ones. If the skill you picked doesnt feel right? New gems will drop, and you can get the early skill you wish you chose upgraded to the gem level. Worst case scenario is run back through an earlier area until some gems drop. Most importantly enjoy yourself and like everyone is saying go at your pace and ask for help.

my tip is: don't feel bad for taking to much time in each zone. its a game, just have fun. but remember that you don't need to stay at the same place for ages if it is too hard. skipping somethig to get stronger and going back 5 min later is also really strong. get your quest rewards first and come back later if you are strugling

Go into it with an open mind. Focus on what feel good to play, don't be afraid to experiment. Try to focus less on what the streamers are doing, even ignore them completely. What they have to say won't matter to most of us/the casual base. Fun > efficiency or meta chasing.

Its ok if ur not super min maxed giga optimized whats important is to take a chunk of the game learn it really well and when ready add another chunk on top of that until eventually ull be a well rounded player.

GGG has proven that they hear and listen. If you're going to give the devs feed back make it constructive, detailed and be professional and be civil with it.(this should be the standard in any interaction in life tbh). This game looks familiar but it's going to play very different than what we are used to. It's the chance to be in ground level on a game that's going to be around for years, just enjoy it.

My tip as a 3 league player (i know god-exiles it is not much) , never hesitate to get the upgrade you can actually afford, it will make your currency tab bigger and bigger with each relatively-small upgrade, and will make you enjoy your build/game more and more, don't be obsessed about getting the BIG GIGACHAD UPGRADE, you will eventually get it.

Best tip i can think of for PoE2. Enjoy your time with the game. Switch skills and try them out, you never know what might turn out to be really fun to play around. If PoE1 is anything to go by, you can find a way to make almost anything functional, it just may not be able to clear all the content in the game.

Im sure i read the beggining of the dodge roll gives you s va non AOE attacks as there is a node that gets rid of this but gives you 30% flat damage resist
@FaeraGaelwyn

Right, the quicker first half of the dodge roll has 100% evasion, similar to Raise Shield having 100% block from the front. But both evasion and block don't defend against ground targeted aoes or slam type attacks by default.

Best single tip i have for new players: Ignore the meta, the strategies, the streamers, etc and just play the game. Do not worry about efficiency or doing things optimally. Use the time to enjoy yourself and learn the game, once you start reading stuff like passives and gems you will realize that the game is not that difficult it just has a lot options for you to explore. Happy pathing. :)

tip for new players: when selling gear, better sell fast for cheaper price and progress fast than sit on your items and let them fill your tabs. Everyone else is trying to progress too and they'll soon need better items than what you have for sale which devalues your items even more.

Tip: Read all tooltips twice and pay attention to every word. It's crucial you understand what your skills are doing, how supports are working and the effect of tree node choices. Making assumptions that turn out to be false can totally undercut your build and leave you confused. Spells are not attacks, not all damage "hits", etc

1. Comparing your own progress/wealth/experience to other content creators (especially the ones that are experiences and can nolife PoE) is single best way.. to kill any fun you have while playing. Take your time, enjoy the game at your own pace and find what you personally consider to be fun.

Best tip? Have fun with your class/build that you do. Make it something that you really enjoy and that's all that really matters. If you are having fun then you are winning. Play around and try new things.. it's going to be sick when you figure out a godly build that no one else knows about.
