Here's a tip:
Always have your Primary Colors ready:
(Red, Yellow and Blue,) and have Black and White, you can also have green and brown if you don't want to mix your own..

Another tip:
Have a Flat Bristle brush, Flat Sable brush, Liner brush, on hand you can do a full painting with just a couple of brushes..
Extra brushes to have on hand are:
Fan Brush
Filbert Brush
Angular Brush
Get at least 3 sizes in each brush, small, medium and large.

Have long used many of the tools and methods you've illustrated so well here, and found painting knives very handy as well after had use of them with grasses in some landscape work. Also used some pen and ink tools in the past, but the surface must be very smooth. A Speedball 512, or a crowquill, or some of the Gilliot nibs work quite well, as does a ruling pen that not a few draftsmen may be familiar with. Thank you for your time.

Fun tutorial. The cat's fur looks nice and dense.. I will try my fan brush and the chiseled edge, because I end up making the whiskers too thick sometimes, with other brushes. Thank you.
