Best hydrangeas I’ve seen. You speak very clearly and understandably, but honestly I cannot tell the difference between the wrong and right techniques. So confused. I will just watch and rewatch and try and sort it out. Who knew hydrangeas could be so tricky!
@donna56593 жыл бұрын
I love how you explain your techniques. I have learned so much from you . I like the slow process and the layer process. I never knew just how important shadows were. The information on the colors you use and why is so helpful! The hydrangeas are difficult to paint but you have encouraged me to try! Beautiful picture! Great tips!!!

Thank you so so much for your feedback!!! 😊 these videos take a while to make (compared to simple painting time lapses with music) so I am SUPER happy to hear that they are useful and bring some value to other artists ❤️ Have a wonderful day!!!

@@AnnaBucciarelli 💕 I don't know why you needed the encouragement, but just want to say, your art gift means something even if you can't always see the fruit of it. You may never know all those who will be touched by it. Sometimes, people just need to see joy, peace and beauty in this crazy world. For me, it reminds me of heaven, where there is only beauty and color and light, the way God intended things to be. So, it's basically a little bit of heaven on earth. 😉

Thank you Susanne! I am looking through reference photos to find something small enough to fit into 2-3 hour class... would red/pink hydrangea be of interest? My blue ones are all too big and would require a 5 hr class 😊... Thank you!

What do you use for your drawing before you paint. I’m always worried it will be to dark and show through, and end up erasing to much. This makes it hard to map out petals. I’m working on a hyacinth painting and I erased way to much. I used Fabre-Castell Graphite Aquarelle. I think I would have Ben fine if I wouldn’t have erased so much. Does it bother you if pencil marks show through? As always, your painting is stunning!
@AnnaBucciarelli3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Danielle! ❤️ Erasing does damage paper. I find thin retractable erasers to be of great help as they only pick up whats necessary. In addition, you may want to switch your pencil to something like 4H - it's much harder and won't leave as much graphite marks. Avoid soft pencils on watercolor paper!! I usually free hand, but that came after years of practice. I recommend developing your drawing on regular paper, erasing there, and then transferring to watercolor paper when you are 100% ready to paint. I hope this helps. Enjoy! ❤️❤️❤️

While this is a very beautiful painting, I don't see it as realistic as much as stylized. The drawing of the hydrangea head is very realistic, but the painting overall, to me, is very busy with too many colors being pushed into the flower head, so it's not one visual message but a collection of little messages. When I was a child, I would visit with my paternal grandparents. Their house was covered in an oil-based, glossy zinc white paint. Around the perimeter of the house, my grandfather had planted hydrangea bushes and tube fed them copper to make them a stunning hydrangea blue. I never do see this color in paintings. Hydrangea thrive in the salty atmosphere of being near the ocean. I have also seen this hydrangea blue a lot as a child in the coastal towns along the sea where I lived in Massachusetts. I have another vivid memory of a saltbox style house clad in narrow dark brown ship's lapping with hydrangea bushes around the perimter of the house, with the same striking hydrangea blue as that at my grandparents' house. However, any rendering of hydrangea heads i've seen always seems to be of mixed colors, like changing autumn leaves, rather than one dominant, cohesive and comprehensive color, (blue, white, pink, purple) defined by light and dark variations of that main color to bring it from 2D to 3D realism. I see this autumn leaves look a lot in watercolor paintings. To some extent, modifying the main color with additional colors to help define cool shadows and direct sunlight is understandable, but I think the amount of this technique needs to be in keeping with the subject. If the flower head is comprised of lots of little florets, then adding lots of color variations reads as busy and distracts from the statement that this is a lilac, crepe myrtle, or hydrangea head. This is especially true if the background is very leafy busy as opposed to a wet-on-wet color push. However, lots of color variation with a single and more simple flower head like a tulip, orchid, daffodil, crocus, petunia, or rose head adds interest and dynamics; drawing the eye around the page without confusing the message and losing the subject matter definition. I'm planning an attempt to do what I'm seeing in my mind's eye with regard to my grandfather's vivid blue hydrangea. I expect it will take several attempts before I get close to what I am seeing in my mind. It will be a learning experience and challenge for sure. 💐
