If you're doing anything outside near a water source, please do not use anything containing deet. It can get ran off into the water and may poison the fish and other local wildlife that drinks from that source.

About keeping alchohol away from pets, it kinda reminded me of a rat my husband once owned who was addicted to Beer. She only got 1 small thimble-full at a time (and rarely), but still she drank it all up while her comrades avoided it. What's more, whenever my husband drank from the bottle (he's dry now, just btw), if she didn't get any she would stand up and pseudo-beg through the bars.

Since marijuana use is becoming more common (and legal) in many places, I'd be interested in knowing the do's and do not's when it comes to consuming marijuana in a pet-friendly household! Thanks!

Keep it away from dogs! It is toxic to dogs if eaten. I learned this when my friend's dog ate a bunch of edibles and nearly died. The vet says he sees it periodically when a dog finds someone's stash.

It's like alcohol: animals are way more sensitive to it than people are, and they can get poisoned by it pretty quickly.
@Seolhe7 жыл бұрын
A lot of animals have very sensitive respiratory systems, so any kind of smoking should be avoided near them.

+Marco Onyxheart What goes for humans, doesn't necessarily go for your pets! ALL plants are more or less poisonous, but we humans developed immunity to our veggies. A pet would normally not have the need to develop immunity. But cats are usually very good at knowing what they can nibble on or not. Dogs on the other hand, they will try everything. It's always your responsibility to see to it that your pet doesn't get poisoned!

Hey Jessi! (or whoever takes the time to reply to the comments) I've been having a hard time lately getting my new young cockatiel and my 4 year old chihuahua get along (I'm not sure if it's even possible). The dog was extremely jealous and curious at first but now he just gets a bit too excited when he sees the bird flying around. So much that unless I keep giving him commands and always be there and keep him calm he would try to jump at the bird. Though, I know that was my fault for not reading his body language properly. I'm getting worried about the bird's safety as he becomes more and more confident exploring the house by himself.

Lily Hiller Storms, Thunder, Rockets and loud sounds from other things. Can you train them to understand that it's not dangerous?
@cravenlunatic17 жыл бұрын
So i know you're asking Jessi but since she might not reply right away i thought i'd try to help. Getting a dog to unlearn a fear is a long slow process involving gradually desensitizing them to the sounds while giving them treats to create a positive association of "this noise=good things". It's best to start that out with a recording of storm noises that's not too loud so they don't start out scared. But for the current storm the best you can do is probably to give your dog a quiet space to get away from the noise, play a radio or tv quietly to drown out some of the sound, and calmly sit with your dog and talk to them. Thunder shirts can reduce fear in some dogs, but they don't always work and they're more of a short term solution. Good luck. :)

Why do humans have a higher tolerance for alcohol than animals?
@Apostate_ofmind7 жыл бұрын
well first of all humans are pretty big compared to pets. Maybe large dogs can compare but still. also i think we evolved to like it for some god forsaken reason. Probably because alcohol-smelling fruits are more mature and with more easely accessible sugar in them. I still hate the smell tho so maybe its just a conjecture.
@greg46297 жыл бұрын
yeah we evolved to understand and consume it and I think animals enjoy other drugs
@secretaltruism41747 жыл бұрын
+Antonio Other animals have got a tolerance to it, like certain primates or even elephants I believe, but dogs and cats wouldn't have a tolerance and probably can't process it very easily.
@davidgold3nrose6 жыл бұрын
What's already been said, but also, how much alcohol we have in our body isn't measured by straight up quantity of alcohol, but our BAC. Less blood (because of smaller size) plus the same amount of alcohol = higher BAC

DK Dempcey Knight DK cats yes, dogs? Not so much. Plus not all BBQs have a visible flame so the only thing that tells us it's hot is "duh, it's a barbecue" but pets don't understand that.
