This advice overlooks several great points. There are exceptions to the suggested rule of avoiding bottom row cards. It's about gearing. Grabbing bottom cards, is like driving your card for too long in the first gear. Jumping straight to level two, however, is like starting your car in second or third gear. Gives you less acceleration. The real essence is to decide when to shift gears. If you go for a speedy strategy, you absolutely need to get a lot of cards fast. You will not get as many points per action at first, but your added speed and a couple of nobles could easily win you the day. However, don't always buy the cheapest gems available. At some point you must decide which horse to bet on. If you limit yourself to gathering two or three colors of gems, you can get very strong in those colors. With a focused buying power, you could assure a win with a streak of high value purchases. These are important principles: 1) Buy the cheaper gems than your opponents. Some level 1 gems cost 5, while others cost only 3. If you maximize this, it will benefit you, provided your gems fit what you need fairly well. 2) Exploit your discounts. Try to chain purchases together, so that you take advantage of your discounts from previous purchases. 3) Buy gems that are needed for future purchases. Read the prices of prestige point gems, grab the gems that buy those first. 4) Buy gems that are high in demand, yet low in supply. This will vary from game to game. Some games are very balanced, then this doesn't count. 5) Specialize in two or three colors. You can't dominate every color. Sacrifice one or two colors entirely, and you will get more buying power in the others. 6) If there are few interesting cards for sale, take a chance on reserving one at random from the middle deck. They could match your strengths, you get gold, and there is room for some error. Also, this way you do not uncover new cards for your opponents to buy first. 7) You need to think about speed first, then points. Once you have enough speed/economy, go for the finish, buying more points. If you start racing before building the engine, you will lose. 8) Hoard chips if possible. That gives you more buying options and makes life harder for your opponents. However, try to spend most of your chips towards the end. A large chip stack at the end gives you no extra points, and is often an indication of poor planning.

9) Account for competition. Your opponents may grab your stuff. Save up for alternative choices, if you can't, reserve cards. Do not reserve cards if you don't have to, you could rather get three chips instead of 1 gold. 10) You must choose the right mix of these elements. You can't use them all at once. Each new game will determine what is the right strategy. Find out how to gain speed, then decide how to finish, and when.

I agree - the strategy tips in the video are overly simplistic - excellent list of tips.

So I tried the tips mainly just playing the 2nd row only. I won the 2 games we played there were 3 of us playing. First game tied to 15 but won with lower amount of cards. 2nd game was beat to 15 but on my last turn was able to go from 13 to 16 for the win. Definitely try it at home seems really good not sure if two players with the same strategy would work.

Great video. The most efficient way for me is to buy 2nd row cards exclusively , build an engine with them, maybe get one level one card, don't even try for nobles. Or buy just level one cards and try for all three nobles. AND look at ladders to get cards , maybe a level three card ( for 5points). Also reserve the 5 point cards. Keep as many coins as you can to buy but buy cards you already have card colours with. Try not to reserve much. Also look at what your opponents are doing and try to block if necessary. Look at all the colours on the board- all white - then buy white cards. There is a bit more to this game than one strategy.

24 is the ideal number of turns only in a four player game. In three players is very tough to end before 25 turns and in only two players is virtually impossible.

Good advice but how are you going to get all the gems to get the upper rows. My tip is to buy the bottom one's first and then you can get the cards for cheep or free.

GOLDGUNER level 2 cards will get you most of the way. i try tonly buy level 1 when i have 10 tokens or need a noble

It's waste your turn to get cards even though they're free.
