Thanks for this video! This camera is a genuine "keeper." The features are amazing - some of which, NO OTHER camera maker has - and the image quality is outstanding. A little pricey for a collection of lenses, but for the quality, super flexibility, and lasting value you get in this camera, satisfaction is assured. I have the M5 II and M10 II and could not be more pleased.

Watching this video in 2020, i bought my first mirrorless camera, this little one, i know that maybe is not the greatest camera, but....... also bought a 25 and 45 mm, 1.8 prime lenses to take advantage of luminosity. What i want to ask you Joseph Elis is about what you talk at the begining about colour. I came from a one inch sensor fix lens camera from Canon. Canon usually give you nice punchy colours (if i write something with errors is because my main language is Spanish, sorry). Want to know as you said if i can put natural mode and increase one notch the saturation or make any adjustment in the white balance menu. Sorry i was to longggggggg. Greatings from ARgentina and thanks again!

Thanks Joseph, just bought it and enjoyed your tips. I did notice I had the 2* digital on - found out as when I viewed the Focus point controller it only shows a row of 5 boxes wide, not the 11 if you don't have it turned on. So that's an extra way to know you have it on !:)

Joseph, I’m also a Olympus shooter and I enjoy your channel very much! You mentioned the 2x digital converter and more or less dismissed it just as I did when I switched to Olympus. I’d suggest you take a closer look at the digital converter if you are shooting any jpegs. I most often shoot jpegs and this has become one of my favorite and most used camera features. It effectively makes a prime lens into two primes lenses, a more macro lens, and doubles a zooms range. I’m not a pixel peeper, but I see no bad results, and now use it without thinking about it. I’m retired, but I still shoot for the hospitality industry several times a year. Websites, wall prints in the rooms, and sometimes very large images are made from my little cameras.
@sonoshee4225 жыл бұрын
But won't you simply get the same result by cropping the image after taking your shot?
@AlexRamosDrTaz4 жыл бұрын
@@sonoshee422 Yes, but it's handy to have and can occasionally save some editing time, especially if you don't have a PC or don't always want to fuss with a mobile app while on vacation :). If you shoot JPEG+RAW you can always edit the RAW shot later.

Do you ever consider taking the EM10 III on a Wedding Shoot as an additional body/lens-holder? Why, or why Not? Thanks! VERY clearly explained!
@JosephEllisPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
Honestly I would have no problem having this as a backup but right now it’s not needed so I use it just as a dedicated family camera. I do think that as a primary wedding camera the EM1.2 and the EM1x do give you some very welcome advantages with dual card slots and more advanced AF.

QUICK QUESTION. What is the best way to have large magnify live view? Say a 10x view. I need this for when a manual lens is attached to confirm the perfect focusing and Canon/Nikon give this very easily but I can't find it here and that 2x magnifier mode as you said, crops and shoots on that way, that I don't like either (Why to loss something form original when I can exactly do that in post processing only from a better selection for cropping), then and more importantly, 2x is absolutely not enough to see that perfect focus, when using a manual lens. Thanks,
@JosephEllisPhotographer4 жыл бұрын
I think what you want is under Gear Menu - A - MF Assist - Magnify. That should bring up a quick magnified image for you to critically look at your manual focus to confirm it's where you want it.
@samsen39654 жыл бұрын
@@JosephEllisPhotographer Exactly what I wanted and thanks a million. Enabled under the menu as you said. Now I can place the green rectangle on any object in the live field of view by touching the LCD screen and then raise the magnification factor up to 15X and finally touch the magnify icon to get it that much enlarged for the critical focus. Exactly what I was expecting from the brilliant mind of Olympus. Only wish is if I know this few nights back when Jupiter had a close date with Venus. Nonetheless, Thank you Dearly for the care to reply fast and exactly what I wanted. You have a new fanboy in your channel and double thumbs up.

Joseph, great points. It was very useful for me. I use the E-M10 ii and enjoy the small size and the lightweight portability. For serious photography I take the E-M1 ii, but for daily use this one is just perfect. One thing I don't understand is why is the mark III rated less than the mark II ???

I was about to buy the 3, but settled for the 2 because of the near metal build. The 2 features a plastic bottom and is about 100€ more expensive where I live. Not worth the 4k For me.

Nice video thanks! I bought my EM-10mkiii just before Xmas primarily as a smaller camera that I’d be more likely to take with me on random outings over a larger body. And it fits that bill perfectly. One thing I’m trying to figure out is how it handles highlights, I’m not keen on the rolloff at the mo, been playing around with settings but it still doesn’t seem to cope with high contrast situations brilliantly. I’m mainly shooting JPEG over RAW for how I want to use it. Wondering if you have a video up or any tips for highlight control in there. Cheers :)

Have you tried the Muted color profile? That seems to help with flattening the profile for the reading the histogram.

Hey Joseph. Great video. Just picked up my EM10 and have a question in reference to the autofocus points. The grid and scale for the autofocus looks different on yours than mine. You have more autofocus points in your grid than I do and the top end of my scale on LCD only goes to 7 while yours goes to 14? Any idea how I can change this?
@JosephEllisPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
Jeff Burke Is it a EM10 MKIII or another version? I’m not sure if those points are set optionally or if it’s a default but if you have the same model I’ll look into it.

@@JeffBurke OK I got it. You have the digital teleconverter engaged. You'll need to either hit the little button right in front of the orange record button marked (x2) on top of the camera to toggle it on/off or you can find it in Camera Menu 1. This feature digitally zooms your image by cropping into the 16 megapixels you have available and is no different than cropping into the image in a computer. I personally don't like this feature so I remapped my (x2) button to be focus magnification for manual focus, that way I can't turn it on by mistake. I hope that helps!

I am really struggling to use this camera, using it mostly for video and the colors are always off. It is definitely a "me" issue.
@JosephEllisPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
What color profile do you use? That, more than anything can be the culprit of strange colors in my experience. If you're not already, try using the natural picture profile.. then just match your white balance to the type of light you're under and it should work great. Or let me know what you're seeing and maybe I can help.
@ChalkandIron5 жыл бұрын
@@JosephEllisPhotographer I want to say, off the top of my head. That we were shooting with the Lens Aperture set to 3.5 and the color mode set to "I-enhance" I tend to get a lot of "red" color like too much contrast.
@JosephEllisPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
@@ChalkandIron I really think you'll find the color improves greatly if you move off of iEnhance and use natural. If you're still getting too much red I would work with the white balance to tone it down. Just a quick FYI if you don't already know, you'll need to move off of the green mode to access the other color profiles, P works great if you still want full automation.
@ChalkandIron5 жыл бұрын
@@JosephEllisPhotographer Thanks for the tip, next time I am in that particular gym I will try the "natural" setting. I was also thinking about buying a continuous light that can mount to the camera for low light gym conditions and shooting videos.
@JosephEllisPhotographer5 жыл бұрын
@@ChalkandIron I think continuous lights would a good investment. Just make sure they can either overpower all the other room lights or can be color corrected to match otherwise the competing colors can cause a ton of problems.

I am sure all of the photographers that take the time to make KZbin presentations are really good photographers, however in my opinion I find it hard to tune into the presentations and try to follow along with my camera only to be left alone in the dust because you are way ahead of before I find where you are pointing to on the camera. It is almost like KZbin only gives a few minutes to post your information. Joseph I was so hoping to find someone that took the time to instruct while giving the patron the time to keep up.
