I really appreciate you for this one (as well as your other videos) My goal every time i go to class is not only to get better myself , but to help my classmates get better as well. I always get annoyed at myself when i would mess up while holding pads because i don’t want them to feel a class was wasted on trying to teach me the proper way to hold pads. Even though they’ve all been really cool/patient and told me not to worry about it ( since i am a beginner) , i still want to provide the best training for them

Great video and a must watch for not just beginners but anyone into this sport. Even many intermediate people don't realize some of this stuff - especially the different angles of holding the pads as well as keeping your striker moving around. For a while in the beginning I thought there was something wrong with my wrists because often times my hooks and uppercuts would hurt during pad work, but yet never hurt when I was hitting bags. Realized it wasn't necessarily me but just the weird angles people would be holding the pads at. Now I pay much closer attention to that.

This is extremely valuable information and should be taught every two months to students

Does this work well with most Thai pads? I use Sandee extra think flat Thai pads, which have quite narrow handles, and it seems like my fingers would be at risk of getting broken if the pad were to rotate from an off-target kick whilst I'm holding it with just my fingers for a low kick. Could you kindly go into more detail on exactly how you hold the pads as well as any safety considerations? A close-up shot as well. I already watched your other video specifically on holding pads for low kicks.

Such a wealth of knowledge in this short video. I myself am guilty of jamming 'cause I love the feel of a strong straight punch from my partner. Will definitely be more mindful of this next session.

I had a partner over-jam on me when I was really new. It was a bit too much but he was a nice guy so I cant hate him for it. I might have been too stiff holding them for others

Yup. Pad holding is just as much a skill as striking itself. It takes a lot of practice to be good at. Especially training with new people and synchronizing with them as quickly as possible.
