I appreciated your showing the outfit with the "dated" long beige cardigan and then showing the more updated "cropped" beige cardigan. I recently had the same situation---although I really like my long pale green cardigan, I know it is not on trend, but I also have a few "cropped" sweaters too. Yes, I may just wear that long cardigan underneath my heavy winter coat where no one will see it as I run errands or just inside the house as you suggested. (I live in Chicago and we are all bundled up now)

Thank you. Great series. I’m having trouble with what pant length to wear with my loafers. I bought some of the wide leg jeans, but they all run long and I don’t want to wear heels in the house. Should I shorten them or just stick to my straight more ankle length jeans. Thank you.

With loafers I prefer to wear ankle length pants, whether straight or full. You could shorten those jeans if you feel you will enjoy them more that way. The raw edge is still very on trend and actually my preferred hemline for an ankle length wide leg jeans, so you could just cut them with good sewing shears. But make sure that’s your preference before you cut! 😉

I was so amazed by the difference made by the t-shirt under the sweater that I screenshot it and will make a before and after photo to remind me. I ordered the shirt. But I was a bit discouraged to see the short cardigan replace the longer one. I really don't care for long cardigans but you looked thinner and taller in it than in the short one. Good Morning, Kay! I am 53 and starting a new job at an upscale decorating store. I have some great "classics" in my wardrobe, but I feel like I need to look more modern and step it up a bit. Some pieces that I am struggling with are: my denim maxi skirt; I own a fairly straight darker wash one, and also a very modern looking a-line one in a lighter wash. I recently invested in some good knee length boots in a dark brown, and have booties in brown, tan, and black. One more piece: a fine gauge black ribbed turtleneck. Thanks Kay! I recognized your Sezane Chloe blouse. I have a Chloe blouse in a subtle print. My wardrobe is filled with classics, especially with fall/winter clothes. In fact, yesterday I was a guest teacher at the school I used to work at and wore my grey flannel wool trousers with a charcoal grey turtleneck sweater. I accessorized it with a narrow black belt and wore my classic black loafers. I topped it all off with my tweed camel blazer. What do you think about lady jackets? Hi Kay, I am a plus size Apple shaped woman. I struggle with the shorter tops and jackets. I do not wear tunic style anymore but I would like to know what I could use to wear that would be more flattering for my body shape and make me look modern as well.

Yes, I’d steer clear of the truly cropped jackets, but you can find tops that may be labeled cropped but are indeed just a little shorter than normal. It’s hard to say for sure without seeing you, but you probably want to look for tops that end just below your tummy and that fit close to the body, but not tight. Kind of grazing the body. Then if you wear a jacket over it you’ll have a really nice look. A jacket with some shape, like a traditional fitted blazer will give you some definition. And you can find that silhouette in denim and utility jackets too. Just something with definition and longer than waist length. I’m going to try to do a video soon for apple shapes. 😉

I am struggling with styling two cable knit, half-zip wool sweater. The colors are great for me, but they seem so masculine. It want to try and part them over dresses belted with boots. Do you have any advice?

I've been building my Classic wardrobe for 8 yrs now since I decided to go Classic, like my Mom wore...I had to buy all new clothes because I lost all my clothes. And when that happened, I decided to change my Style altogether! 👌 I mostly wear neutrals, alot beige, white, black, Khaki and Navy! Then I occasionally add bright Pops of color in my shoes, handbags & scarves, etc.

Hi Kay- As a newly retired woman, I am trying to find clothes that are current yet classic like your video today. I struggle with the wide leg pants. I would love to learn how to wear the trousers with sneakers look- I just find the pants soo long that I feel more comfortable in the ankle length. AND I do not like wide leg ankle length… so that is my dilemma. TY in advance for your help 😊

Debbie, I agree with you. Wide legs pants in ankle length look awkward. The ones that were called kick flares were especially so. I am struggling a bit with length on my newer wide leg pants too. I do not wear heels ever, so getting the length right for me is important as I cannot adjust by changing heel heights.

So happy to see you back, you look fabulous and fresh! I wear very casual at home, maybe just the traditional tee and jeans or casual relaxed pants....while this is a traditional look how do I make a simple tee look a little more modern? ( And not quite so average) ❤

Just keep your jeans modern. And wear with field sneakers or loafers or modern sandals (when it gets warmer). You can also add a great jacket.

Great video. Although I have a few leggings left that I wear for running around/errands during our cold Chicago winter season, I also wear slacks now with tights and boots too. Yes, will update with some new sweaters.

Look for some that are created in a petite fit. And then the rest is in the styling. I suggesting wearing a pointy shoe to elongate. And the rest really depends on your body type.
