Tailoring is also a style elevator. Having clothes fit as if they’re bespoke definitely makes any outfit more flattering and pulled together.

My friend's father used to say hair and shoes are most important items to elevate style

The hairstyle tip is an especially good one. I used to keep experimenting with different styles but I finally hit on letting it be long and natural and it's become a trademark. It suits me, and I love the simplicity of it.

If my hair is not "done" no matter what I have on I feel unput together. I personally do not to see the need in buying high quality expensive clothing. I feel just as put together if I have no stains, lint and clothes always ironed. I can have basics on, but just adding a nice watch simple gold necklace takes it up a notch for me. Another great video

Another amazing video Merriam! One thing I’ve been struggling with is being afraid to look ‘too’ good. I prefer styles that aren’t too attention grabbing anyway (I try hard but looks effortless 😂) but I’m afraid that I still stand out. I’m not shy or anything, but I just don’t like the attention and it makes me feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it holds me back from looking my best because I decide to look shittier on purpose. On one hand I want to feel good in my clothes, on the other hand it makes me uncomfortable if other people look at me more because of that. Anyway, I wanted to drop it in these comments to see if anyone relates.

I can definitely relate. But just looking put together you will stand out because majority chooses to wear comfy and sport clothes that don't make you look elevated. I think it's because they also are afraid to look too good or can't be bothered to do so. Also, people are afraid of their own power. Once you put yourself first and decide to look good, eventually you'll see how powerful you can be. But it can be scary thing so you just have to give yourself time. If you look in the past people used to dress very well. It was normal to look the best. But we have lost that art. Let's bring it back, dress well and make the world little bit prettier by nice outfits!

@@HaHaHaLMFAOtv Totally! I think a lot of people would love to look more put together but don't know how or don't want to stand out. I think those of us who can and like to do it just have to be brave. Hopefully more people will gain confidence to try it from our examples.

Very good video!! Thank you for all your generosity in sharing your expertise. I agree completely with everything here. I am most familiar with two points because I am practicing them. Good basics plus accessories !! I have only 30 item wardrobe. But I do have few bags a few shoes and lots of jewelry. And this is what I use to express how I want to feel that day. I get so many compliments! And the second point is what you said about caring for your items . If they clean ironed mended, etc. they look good and it’s very important. In fact, most of the fancy stores have someone steaming and arranging the items they look fantastic because they are taken care of.

My tip is to learn how to understand the principal behind what a style educator is teaching, as this is what will allow you to adapt things for yourself. For example, if you find fussy innerwear annoying and are happiest with skin coloured innerwear that works with everything, you should be able to interpret Merriam's tip on undergarments to mean that you should have good quality skin matching innerwear. If you hate your hair falling into your face, the hair tip (partially) applies as learning how to do braids, buns, and ponytails that suit your body type at different levels of difficulty to suit different situations, keeping your ends trimmed and neat, and having the right hair accessories.

What are your favourite colours generally? What do you enjoy looking at? What colours make you think, 'Isn't that beautiful?' It's very likely that these are also your best colours. They're worth trying anyway.

Please do give oranges a try. If your chroma is clear, bright oranges and corals, and if your chroma is (a bit or very) muted, rusts and burnt oranges of all kinds.

I like doing signature colors for specific items. So I love red accessories and will often get red shoes and bags. I love hot pink tops and have a shirt and dress in these colors. And I love green dresses bc green is something I can wear by itself without needing to accessorize. This helps keep things stimulating but still very cohesive!

Hi Merriam, thank you for what you do. Could you talk about REDNESS in the face? I'm pretty sure I am warm and delicate but I also have a mild rosacea and I feel like it makes picking colors tricky, as I don't want to bring out the red (or rosy?) even more. Thank you!
@lesmondesourien2 ай бұрын
...to be more precise, I'm a bit afraid of anything rosy near my face, even when it's warm: like peach clothes and rose gold jewelry (and sometimes even a red lip). I feel like it brings out the rosacea. But I'm not sure. Would love to hear your knowledge and experience about that!

I would add good posture is also key. You can be wearing a lovely outfit but if you slump over and shuffle your feet you will appear to have no confidence and pride in yourself. I have one lovely friend who wears scruffy clothes, scruffy hair, no make up and she walks with her shoulders hunched over. She is a lovely person but this is not able to shine through properly. Wear a smile! Take care of your fitness level too. So you, at least, have some energy throughout the day.
